Summary: Return of an 80s Classic
Review: I was happy to see this come out on DVD. One of my favorite shows of the past now available in its original format. Season 1 was one of the best. It introduces the loner Micheal Knight (formerly Micheal Long a slain policeman) who is reborn to fight crime for FLAG(Foundation for law and Government). His partner is the chatty KITT or KNIGHT Industries 2000. A car that can go through concrete, fire lasers, deploy smokescreens, oil slicks, etc. Plus more gadgetry. Along with Devon Miles the leader of FLAG and the Sexy Bonnie who is the engineer that looks after KITT and upgrades him. Season 1 was excellent but season 2 was more ambitious with more head to head action with international terrorists and GOLIATH. But enough about GOLIATH you'll see him in the next boxed set.

Summary: I always felt bad for the car
Review: It had to work with David Hasselhoff and put up with his attempts at following the script. I loved seeing the car (and it's gadgets) right up to the end, but could not stand it's 'driver' even before "Baywatch".

It was obvious the car was a lot physically and mentally faster (even without special effects enhancement) than he could have ever hoped to be. The car WAS the show and somebody else should have played Michael Knight.

Summary: The Knight In Black Shining Armour (Region/zone 4)
Review: The Knight In Black Shining Armour (Region 4)

This a great release from Universal of the Knight Rider who first season with extras bonus goodies.

The box set here contains 8 discs. I don't know if the region 1 (US/Canada) is actually eight discs and Amazon have written it wrong? Or if the R1 version is on flip side discs. But nothing is any different, except that the Australian release has got English subtitles.

I had not seen Knight Rider since the 80's when I was a kid. And after watching the whole first season I still had no memory of anything from it except the intro of it. But I love it all over again. It is true what they say about the Knight 2000 and K.I.T.T, there was not a kid in the world who did not want to be in that passenger seat with Michael Knight riding in that black Pontiac Trans-am. I was one of them, and even after all these years, I still would like to have a car like that, tho wouldn't everybody?

In the box set of the first series you get all 21 episodes. There is a few dust speckles in the film from time to time. But it's not enough o notice unless you're specifically looking for it on purpose, you might just notice it now and then, but it's nothing of a problem I wouldn't think. You also get 2 episode long, or 2 hour long, pilot episode where Michael Long becomes Michael Knight and is first introduced to K.I.I.T (the Knight Industry Two Thousand) which is the computer inside of the Knight 2000 (Trans-Am). Some things in the series are a little dated, but quite a lot still holds up today. I didn't think the plots where old fashioned or anything, the only thing that you could be picky about is the 1991 T.V movie "Knight Rider 2000" which is on the last disc as a bonus. The movie is OK, but doesn't hold up against the series.

Each disc except the last (which has the movie) all have one bonus feature each.

"Knight Rider: Under the hood" is an interview with David Hasselhoff and the producer talking about how the show came about, and little things about the show.

"Knight Moves" is an interview with the stunt driver about the stunts preformed on the show.

"Blue Prints Gallery" - This feature is lame, it shows some blue prints of the designs of the sets and one picture of the car, that I would not even call a blue print, its just a skeleton look of the front of the car.

"Stills Gallery" - There is nothing really special about this, it's some photos from the show if you're interested in watching them.

"Knight Sounds" is an interview with the guy who wrote the theme song and talks a bit about it.

"K.I.T.T Owners Manual" This is a interactive display of K.I.T.T's onboard computer. You can select the various objects to find out what they do. For example of you select the `Turbo Boost' button it will tell you that the button is used for an accelerated turbo boost to make the car jump. And so on.
"Commentary on Knight Of The Phoenix" is audio commentary with David Hassalhoff and writer/creator Glen Larson. It starts off pretty boring, but once they loosen up it's ok. You learn a little bit about Knight Rider that you might not have known about, but it's mostly the two of them giving friendly insults to them and a bit of an ego on Hasselhoff's part. Not to mention he goes on about Baywatch too much.

Overall I really liked seeing these shows again. I can't wait for the second series to come out. I will definitely be purchasing that. The only down points I can say about this box set is I don't know why the pilot episode is on disc 7 instead of the first disc? But who cares about that. The only thing more I'd like to have seen is some bloopers and out-takes, and a face to match the man who is the voice of KITT. But there is still season 2 to come yet.

Knight Rider still holds up today. It's fun to watch every time the Knight 2000 makes a jump you can see the ramp that is supposed to be hidden out of view, or things like water falling onto the back wheel to make it smoke when it's doing burn-outs. But those kinds of things make it fun to watch, they don't make it lame. Knight Rider has been re-born in me again and I can't wait to watch the second series now.

Summary: Knight Rider is the reason that the DVD was invented.
Review: This set is the greatest thing to happen to home entertainment ever. Just starting the DVD and hearing that awesome theme music is worth the money. When you add Knight rider to your collection you can cancel your cable for the next month because you won't want to watch anything but this. Sure the acting is a bit corny but name me one show from the 80's without corny acting.
