Review: This "reimagining" is hardly Battlestar Galactica.
It is a highly watered down, "primetime drama" version which would be more properly called "the adventures of sexy robot temptresses and weak, inept humans"The plot is dumbed down for today's teenage audience and more complex issues such as the human factor and the mythology are long gone!

Summary: Even Galactica 1980 will be better!!!!!!
Review: I just can't believe what they are doing with BG?! For me BG is with Richard Hatch AND Dirk Benedict as Apollo and Starbuck! You can't even replace any of the other charactars. I would love to have to see BG - 25 years later with some new and old characters. But doing it all over again with new actors and even changing some characters?! This is doomed to fail! I would rather even watching Galactica 1980 then the new " Galactica ".

Review: I'm a fan of the orginal series but I'm not going to snub the new mini until I've actually seen it and then and only then will I make a judgement on whether or not it is garbage . So I say hold your reviews , comments on this until you've seen it then go to town with your reviews , comments.

Summary: This is NOT Galactica
Review: Based on reading the draft script released in early 2003, on the Cylon Alliance review of the shooting script, on the production photographs that have been released to date, and on the interviews and quotes of the actors and producers, the only thing "Galactica" about this production is the name and the Viper. Everything else, what made the original unique, is missing from this conglomeration of cliche', angst, and left-wing politics heavily influenced by Ron Moore's Star Trek roots (right down to the Seven of Nine clone, "Number Six"). The costumes are uninspired: most right out of US Navy surplus, and there's a guy in a suit and tie in the beginning, for pete's sake. They would have been far better served to produce this script with a different name, and without the Viper and whatever other design elements they will use to remind viewers of the original series. I might have been interested in this production and purchased this DVD if they had done that. But as "Battlestar Galactica", it is nothing more that an insult to the original.

Summary: Galactica in name only?
Review: If you're a fan of the movies Wing Commander and Space Mutiny, and the TV series Space: Above And Beyond and Supercarrier you'll love this. Edward J Olmos (Miami Vice) stars in the part originally played by TV legend Lorne Greene. As William "Husker" Adama he must defend humanity from a race of budget-friendly human robot terrorists who destroy his civilisation via a sneak attack, killing babies and seducing human dupes to achieve their diabolical ends. If you loved the original Battlestar Galactica you'll find a production that shares the name only. If you love stuff like Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity, then this is right up your street!

Summary: MATURITY AND COMPLEXITY ARE GOOD
Review: I was living in Germany when the original BSG was televised. I watched it a few times in reruns but could never "get into" it. I LOVE science fiction,because it deals with real issues, the complex issues of life. I think Jamie Bamber is a sensitive and talented actor who will bring a lot of humanity and depth to his character. The cast includes 2 Oscar winners. I think that is enough said for the quality of acting that can be expected. I am eagerly anticipating the mini- series in Dec. 2003 and will buy the dvd when it is available. I am sorry fans of the original BSG are so adamant in this effort failing. Nothing is to be gained by anger and bitterness.

Summary: Wow -- psychic reviews! NOBODY has seen this DVD!
Review: The DVD isn't even out yet! *All* these reviews are bogus -- no one has seen anything but preliminary photos and an early draft of the script that is up online. The die-hard original BSG series fans are having tantrums and trying to torpedo the new show because a revival series pitched by Richard Hatch was turned down in favor of a different version. Frankly, I thought the original series had weak scripts & mediocre acting (Lorne Greene playing Ben Cartwright ... in space - wow.) and the Mormon theology was kind of tiresome to someone who has had enough of saying "no thank you" to teenage "Elders" doing door-to-door religion. The only reason I am looking forward to seeing the new one is because of the knockout new cast: Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Jamie Bamber ... (Miami Vice, Stand and Deliver, Dances with Wolves, Hornblower, Band of Brothers ...) I sympathize with the folks who didn't get what they want, but a review board is a place for talking about what one has seen -- not what one thinks one is going to see. And I think the tantrums are only going to make undecided viewers tune in to see what all the fuss is about. ;-)

Summary: Watch the original instead
Review: This is not the DVD of the original TV series. This thing is Galactica in name only. All the themes and ideas of the original series have been seriously twisted and mutilated. Even miniseries star Edward James Olmos admits that this bears little or no resemblance to the Battlestar Galactica that was a phenom back in 1978. Having read the script, I can say that it's nihilistic, derivative, and just plain boring.

Review: The original Battlestar Galactica from the late 1970's was a fun show. Created by Glen Larson, it was a mix of Chariot of the Gods and Mormon theology. The series lasted one season, yet managed to finish 24th in the ratings for that year. However, the series got rerun and gathered new fans from a new generation -- it became even more fun to watch it since it was so good. Now, unfortunately, Ronald D. Moore has come along to reinvent Galactica, and he has with a vengence. Galactica 2003 is written for easily titillated adults. It has adult characters who are complex and live in the real world with gray areas, even though this is not the real world, it's science fiction. Battlestar Galactica 2003 is a quantum leap below the Saturday morning cartoon quality of the Scooby Doo.

Review: The original Battlestar Galactica from the late 1970's was a disaster. Created by Grand A. Larceny it was a mix of stolen sci-fi cliches, and a mix of Chariot of the Gods, and Mormon thelogy. The series lasted one season, a season filled with weak writing and cardboard cartoon characterizations. Then taking the bordem to new levels, Galactica 1980 came along and cemented the Galactica universe in utter silliness. However the series got rerun and took on an Ed Wood/MST3K quality -- it became fun to watch it and laugh at it since it was so bad. Now, thankfully Ronald D. Moore has come along to reinvent Galactica, and he has with a vengence. Galactica 2003 is written for adults, not children. It has adult characters who are complex, and live in the real world with gray areas. There are no pure good guys, and pure evil doers. There are people who make mistakes, and either rise above them, or don't. The cylons are more complex, and have a more complex history, and even a religion. So, all the good ideas from the original Galactica are intact: Brothers of man in space, on a quest to find a new home after their entire civilization was wiped out. But, in this version the tone is darker, more real, more human. It's more adult and mature. Along with all the things you'd want in a space epic, with battles, fighters, and Battlestars. But, Battlestar Galactica 2003 with its great cast of serious actors is a quantum leap beyond the Saturday morning cartoon quality of the 1978 original.
