Summary: Rip Off!!!
Review: I just received the DVD as a gift and was hoping to see the ENTIRE SEASON because I had missed a couple of shows. However, it turns out that the DVD just contains some clips of various highlights and omits some of the best parts of AI. I too, was really hoping for Kelly's Big Band Performance and was sorely disappointed. The DVD packaging also claims to have Complete Finalist Auditions and while there are clips of each of the finalists during their original audition, we never get to hear them sing! As for the rest of the songs, forget about it. The choices are odd and some of the best songs were ignored. I can't believe it! It's not like they're going to show reruns, so find someone who taped all the shows and borrow them before you buy this DVD.

Summary: DON'T BOTHER
Review: I cannot express how disappointed I was. If you think you are going to see any of the great performances, such as Tamyra singing "A Fool in Love" or Kelly singing "Stuff Like That There" you are mistaken. They didn't show ANY of the big band performances. If you are a Kelly fan, it is a real waste of money because they don't show very many performances from her. You do get to see Christina captivate the audience with her rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine". That, along with Tamyra's "A House is Not a Home" are the only real highlights. Even Kelly's emotionally charged performance of "A Moment Like This" at the end does not save this DVD. It consisted mostly of behind the scenes which I was not interested in and a background of the judges, again nothing interesting. Don't waste your time or money.

Summary: Pretty bad
Review: Not being in the States, I wanted to get a glimpse of why this series became the hottest TV sensation of the summer of 2002. This is such a poorly pieced together effort, and viewers who didn't get to see the show will end up being confused about a lot of things.

For one thing, they rarely place the contestants' names onscreen, so for a first time viewer, it gets rather confusing who's who.

Secondly, you're left wondering why the top 10 were eliminated in the order that they go. Most of the time, you don't even see/hear even a few seconds of their performance that night, and you never get to hear what the judges think about them (except once, and that time, it wasn't even a critical comment).

On one particular elimination, the person voted off wasn't even present at the show, and all you saw were a few seconds of her being taken away in an ambulance. No explanations were given, so one doesn't know if she had an accident, an asthma attack, a stroke or whatever... not even if she got out of the hospital alive. It's really frustrating.

The bonus features save this DVD from receiving a one-star rating, since they're a lot more fun than the actual 62 minute program. It makes you think that if they had integrated the additional footage into the main feature (particularly the scenes with the judges fighting), then it would've been a bit more entertaining. And seriously, would at least ONE performance from each top 10 finalist have been too much to ask for?

Summary: American Idol
Review: I think this is a great video. It features Ryan, Christina, RJ,Tamyra, Nikki, Justin, and Kelly's best songs. It was perfect. I really enjoyed watching it. There is one big complaint I have though. It wasn't longer.

Summary: needed more solo performances..
Review: I did enjoy watching this dvd, but I was disappointed that it didn't have any solos by RJ Helton. I also would have liked to have seen Kelly's "stuff like that there" performance. That was the first night she won my vote! I just wish that song could be heard again(cd or dvd). I just would have liked to have seen more solos by RJ(finalist #5),instead of Ryan Starr's(finalist #7)solo. Overall, this was a good dvd and worth buying.

Summary: Pretty good, but a little disappointed
Review: I bought the DVD over this past weekend and I was so excited because I watched all the shows didn't miss ONE, but I wanted alot of it to be on this DVD. I agree with another review on here about it being more about who got kicked of rather than hearing about all contestants and watching them perform again. I still enjoyed it but expected more from it. I especially would have liked to seen more on RJ!!!

Summary: Disappointed Idol Fan
Review: This video could easily have been 2 hours and should have been. It is only 60 minutes long. It should have included more of the auditions (at least auditions of the final 10 if not others) and judges' comments. They should also have included the final ten singing together in the last show. Instead we are shown tiny clips of the various shows. They do not show everyone singing. We get songs from Kelly (natch), Justin, Tamyra, Nicki, Christina, and R.J. They also show when people are voted off and the clips they showed about that person when they were voted off. It also has the group sing-a-long of "California Dreamin'."If you didn't know before why Kelly won, it is abundantly clear when Justin sings (or tries to) "A Moment Like This." Kelly's winning moment is there and she sings "A Moment Like This" after she is crowned American Idol. This makes up for the shortcomings of the video. They could have included so much more and for the amount I paid I expected them to. I guess that's why they didn't put the total running time on the package.

Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: This is just highlights. It is almost all talking. I liked the show because of the signing. I bought this because I wanted to have all the great songs they sang on DVD. But there is very little singing. Instead of showing RJ singing "Lately" to get into the top ten. They tell you how good of a job he did. Don't waist your money like I did.

Summary: Great Series Re-Cap!
Review: If we can't have the entire series on DVD, this is the next best thing. Although I didn't miss a single episode, I WISHED I would have taped it. The makers of this DVD did a great job
editing various parts of the show to give you a general feeling of what went on, especially covering all of the kids who didn't make the top ten (what would have been nice would be if they'd had a section on the LAS VEGAS show utilizing all 30 contestants). The hour long section on the series itself is an edited version of the final episode, with various cuts and ads...
the special sections are all fun viewing. If you loved AMERICAN IDOL on TV, you'll definately LOVE this DVD!

Summary: Focus was wrong
Review: I ordered this video expecting to see a lot more of the contestants singing. Instead the focus seems to be who left the show each week. I feel like I saw more of the hosts than of the contestant's performances. It would have been nice to see more of the great performaces and to hear the contestants singing in the background as they talked about them. 4 of the top ten were not shown giving performances. It would have been nice to see them perform, especially R.J. who finished 5th.
