Summary: I can't believe this!!!
Review: It is amazing to me what these so called video companies release. These dvds are so time compressed that Michael Landon sounds like Mickey mouse. The transfers are old ans spotty to say the least. They never should have put 6 episodes on a one sided disc. DVD started out as a film historian's dream of preserving all the classics forever. Like every thing else these days commercialism ruined it. Just think what you are getting ..., 19 hours of video! Wow wee. It is all wrong. Just junk. Maybe they will get seasons 3 and 4 right. I will wait

Summary: Beware of less than stellar transfers!
Review: I would like to warn anybody out there that Little House on the Praire seasons 1 and 2 are a bit dissapointing as far as quality goes. First of all, the opening theme credits, which listed different cast members and guest stars for each episode are not included! One version of the opening credits is used on the first episode of each disc. So that many actors surch as Victor French, Kevin Hagen, and special guest stars Ernest Borgnine, and Patricia Neal get no screen credits on these dvds. Secondly, these are not new transfers struck from original camera negatives, but rather existing TV transfers that have been electronically enhanced. So they look better than they did, but not up to dvd standards. And lastly they have been time compressed. That is to say, slightly sped up so that the soundtracks have a slightly higher pitch. Most fans will be happy with the quality, but purists should beware!

Summary: Little House DVD Set Review
Review: Got them the first day they came out. The quality on these is superb. The colors are very sharp and vibrant. These episodes have never looked better! Definitely worth the money for any Little House fan. The packaging is very nice, too. The only real drawback on these sets is the opening credits are only on the first episode of each disc. Also, the original "teasers" which were shown when they were originally aired and in reruns are missing. Hopefully in future releases they keep the opening credits at the front of each episode, complete with teasers.

Summary: So Glad this came out but I think theres a glitch
Review: I wanted to see the extras so I figured they were on disc 6. I popped it in and saw the actor profiles, um what happend to Laura and Ma? They only showed. Michael Landon, Mary, Mrs Olsen and Albert. Then I went to check out the quiz. One question popped up then it shut down and stopped as if it at the end of the disc and there was no more room.
One question whats up with that?
So far I have only watched the first 3 episodes on disc one and so far so good.

Summary: Excellent show, excellent release
Review: The first season of "Little House On the Prairie" is an excellent example of what a smaller independent distributor can do for television shows on DVD. Take a classic show like "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", for instance: it's first season was released by mega-studio 20th Century Fox in September 2002. Ten months later, we still don't even know if Fox will release the rest of the series due to poor sales and the fact that they are busied with franchises like "24", "The Simpsons" and "The Shield".

Enter Goldhil Home Media, a smaller company who I wish held more distribution properties than it does. Because, simply put, it makes the best of what it does have. Case in point, releasing two beautiful 6-disc season sets of "Little House On the Prairie" on the same day in July. Further assuring us that we're not wasting our money on a series we know will never be completed, they've included a message in the episode guides/booklets stating that seasons 3 and 4 are coming soon. Now that's awesome.

Did I mention these sets are beautiful? Each disc features a member of the Ingalls family against a beautiful blue sky and golden prairie. The handy booklet gives a rundown of every episode. The menus are great and play the classic theme song until you select an episode (4 eps per disc). The opening theme only appears over the first episode on each disc but the end titles are included for every episode. Unless you obsess over the opening theme for some reason, this is not a big deal.

The content of the show itself is great. They've restored and remastered the original material and it looks and sounds better than you've ever seen it on television. To quote the booklet: "The vintage material included is this Special Collector's Edition has been restored using state-of-the-art color correction, picture enhancement and noise reduction technologies."

I'm only through the first disc (having just found this at a retail store 3 days before its expected release date) and have found plenty of heart-warming moments and can tell that there will be many more hardships for the Ingalls family before the first season concludes. As soon as I am able, I plan to empty my pockets for the season 2 box set. From there, I'll be anxiously awaiting the release day for seasons 3 and 4. Goldhil Home Media has certainly won me over and proven that the indie distributors really tend to appreciate their properties and treat them with all the respect they deserve.

Note: The 2-hour pilot episode is not included on this set, as it was run as a TV movie before the series was set in stone. The good news is that Goldhil is releasing the pilot separately on the same day! As is, the series picks up with the episode entitled "A Harvest of Friends", in which the Ingalls have just moved from Kansas to Walnut Grove, MN.

EPISODE LIST:

DISC 1 - A Harvest of Friends, Country Girls, The 100 Mile Walk, Mr. Edwards' Homecoming
DISC 2 - The Love of Johnny Johnson, If I Should Wake Before I Die, Town Party Country Party, Ma's Holiday
DISC 3 - School Mom, The Raccoon, The Voice of Tinker Jones, The Award
DISC 4 - The Lord Is My Shepherd (2 hours long), Christmas at Plum Creek, Family Quarrel
DISC 5 - Doctor's Lady, The Plague, The Circus Man, Child of Pain
DISC 6 - Money Crop, Survival, To See the World, Founder's Day

Summary: I bought it for my wife, but she's got me hooked.
Review: I have to say that I never watched this show when it was on. I thought that it was boring, wholesome, idealistic and, well.. boring. I was a kid then and now I appreciate this series for what it is. Wholesome, idealistic and enticing beyond belief.

Based on a series of books by Laura I Wilder, Little House follows the trials and tribulations of the Ingalls family as they settle the rugged west and struggle to keep their family together while doing it.

I am by no means an expert on the series, but the same episodes that I found trite and sleep inducing in my childhood I now sit up to chuckle at, and sometimes nearly weep over. This is a very well acted and extremely well written show that the entire family can enjoy.

Admittedly, I still personally prefer 'The Shield', 'NYPD Blue' and 'The Sopranos', but they're shows that I have to watch alone. My two sons won't be allowed near that section of the DVD collection for quite some time. Little House can spin for them right as they start to wean themselves off 'Sesame Street'and 'Bear in the Big Blue House'. I'm already planning the books to recommend to them if they like it. Laura's series will definately be among them.

Summary: Little House - No Opening Credits
Review: I just purchased the Little House on the Prairie Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD (local store accidentaly released it a week early) and the picture and sound quality are excellent, the only complaint here is that they do not include the opening credits. Each DVD contains 4 episodes and only the first episode on each disc has the opening credits, the box says "uncut and in their original form" but how can this be when you don't have the opening title. To me, they just don't seem complete.

Summary: Can't WAit!!!!
Review: I am so glad that this show is made available- Before all you could buy was certain episodes, but to me all the shows were wonderful!! I wondered if you could ever buy the whole seasons of shows, and now here it is!!! I am so glad, especially all the crud that is on television these days, it is nice to be able to watch a show that can be just as exciting without all of the violence and sex. This collection is definitly a blessing!

Summary: I Loved this Show Then and I Love it Now
Review: I was nine years old when Little House on the Prairie premeired on television and it was one of my favorite television shows and I grew up watching it as the seasons went on and well I just have great memories of watching this show. I love that that the first season is on DVD and the episodes are all very good and not a dud episode can be found which is rare to not have at least one episode that is a major dud. Melissa Gilbert is absolutely wonderful as Laura Ingalls and Melissa Sue Anderson is also very good as her sister Mary and so are Michael Landon as their Pa, Charles Ingalls and Karen Grassle as their Ma, Caroline Ingalls and the rest of the cast members are good too, including Victor French as their friend the eccentric but loveable Mr. Edwards and Alison Arngrim as Laura's nemesis, Nellie Oleson. I Love Little House on the Prairie and I personally would love to own the entire series on DVD! Also if you love this series check out The Waltons which was another wonderful family show in the 70s and both shows can be viewed by the entire family.
