Summary: Well, it's ok!
Review: I was very pleased when I heard "Little House On The Prairie" would be released on DVD by seasons. Season 1 quality is ok. Most episodes are pretty good but there are some episodes that are dark. Obviously, the transfer to DVD on these episodes weren't that good. One huge disappointment is that there is no chapter search. To the makers of this DVD set "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING". Again, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING". How hard is it to add chapters? You have to fast forward to get to the scene you want. I have a DVD player which fast forwards in increments of 10 seconds. So you can imagine how long it would take me to get to 25 minutes into the show. The pamphlet included inside list the episodes and a discription of each episode. This is a plus. But, you have characters listed that don't appear in this season, Almanzo Wilder, Albert Ingalls, Adam Kendall? This was obviously a short cut taken and it is being used for the second season also. Does anyone know how to pay attention to details? The price, well, I wouldn't have paid much more for the set. Overall I'd give it a 3 star. Plenty of room for improvements. LIKE CHAPTER SEARCH!!!

Summary: Best show ever on TV!
Review: I'm so thrilled about these DVDs. I watched 'Little House' as a young child and then again as an adult in syndication. At nearly 30 years old, I still believe it's the best show that was ever on television. I've taped many episodes on numerous VHS tapes but we all know that doesn't work too well. The episodes have commericals and are terribly out of order, not to mention how much space they take up on dusty and deteriorating VHS tapes. These DVD's are not perfect, but REALLY close. Some of the complaints in other reviews don't seem to apply to my copy (for example, I have the opening credits on each disk and that's enough for me). The episodes are easy to access and the commercial-free entertainment is priceless. Storage of the first season's 23 episodes take up about as much space as your favorite paperback book. My first child, a daughter, was born last year. These DVDs will enable me to share the precious gift of good family television with her and any other children I have in the future. For that, I thank all those involved in making these DVDs available and look forward to future releases.

Summary: A TEAR SHED IN EVERY SCENE
Review: Little House is everything you remember it to be. Do the Ingalls ever stop working??? Can Half-Pint get any cuter? Watching Nellie in all her "bitchy" glory! Ah... memories!
Okay, okay. For you "tech" people out there, the quality may not be up to par. However, for you people out there who just want to enjoy one of the greatest series ever made, BUY THIS DVD! Come on, ...[there are] six discs!
It made me want to write Mrs. Olsen (Katherine McGregor) a fan letter because I hated her so much as a child that I never appreciated what a tremendously gifted actess she is!
If you do not experience many moments of heartwarming emotion watching these discs then you have a heart of stone! Little House is for everyone, young and old. Introduce it to your kids!

Summary: Great series...Poor release.
Review: This series deserves a better release than this one. I was very excited to see that this series was finally released...until I got it home. The picture quality was not up to DVD standards. Most of them look just okay, a few of them were dreadful. I haven't had any of the sound problems that I've read about on here. But the worst part is NO OPENING CREDITS?! what were they thinking? I want to see the pre-show teasers as I did in the 70s and I want to see the opening credits as I did in the 70s...ON EVERY EPISODE. Nice try, better luck next time...Michael Landon wouldn't have stood for this if he were still here.

Summary: Little House collector
Review: This set of dvd's is great. I am very excited about the realease of seasons 1 and 2 and look forward to the other seasons being released. Pictures on the dvd's are much clearer than the episode shown on TV. It would be nice if the dvd number and the episodes on that dvd were listed somewhere besides the booklet in the box. Other than that no complants.

Summary: Nice Window Dressing, but Poor Quality Video and Audio
Review: The box and dvd pictures are beautiful with quality packaging, but the buck stops there. I am returning this product to the store for false advertising. The box states that the episodes are uncut and unedited - this is to the contrary. Opening credits are cut on every episode except for the first episode on each dvd. It appears that the episodes are time compressed. This is a shame and is only used as a cost cutting factor instead of providing one or two more dvds in the set. Has sombody made it a maketing rule that you can not have more than 6 dvds in a package or is it that no one has come up with a holder that holds more than 6 dvds It is also a shame that the episodes were not remixed to a dolby 5.1 standard - another cost cutting factor or no access to a quality studio. These episodes are nothing more than standard poor quality TV prints that have been digitally enhanced to where the outcome is somewhat mediocre. The colors have been so digitized that the shows look like some kind of Ted Turner B&W Classic that has been colorized. No natural color variations. There is apparent over use of digitally sharpening the picture. The actors teeth look like glowing white mouth pieces when they smile (No lines to distinguish teeth). The original prints were dirty as well with dust and dropout that just show more because of the digital sharpening used. This could have been cleaned up digitally with a bit of time and effort. I can do this at home with my cheap home computer and cheap editing software. Surely someone with access to a halfway decent studio and up to date equipment could do the same thing in a fraction of the time it takes me. I think I would have rather waited for a cleaner release and am also surprised to see that NBC has there name plastered on the box as a NBC Home video release. I agree with other reviewers that it is a shame that corporate greed supercedes art even though it does not have to. I would rather pay more money for better quality episodes. NBC - give me decent prints and access to a good studio and a year of pay (with two assistants) and I will gladly transfer the tapes to dvd in dolby 5.1 format. It just goes to show I should read Amazon reviews before buying a product. I know I am being very critical, but when the technology is available it should be used correctly. I am an afficionado of LHOTP and hate to see it being butchered to make a quick buck. This seems to be the trend lately. Quanity over quality. ephemera:
Other dvd sets that I would like to see marketed in a quality format is the Andy Griffith Show and The Beverly Hillbillies.

Summary: At last....
Review: I am thrilled that they have finally released these DVD's. My only complaint is that in order to get to a specific scene in an episode, you have to fast forward through the entire episode, because the DVD's are not broken down into scenes. Also, there is supposed to be a quiz on disc 6, and the quiz doesn't work. Otherwise, I'm just happy to finally be able to own season 1 and 2. I hope that they take into account all of our ratings if and when putting together the following seasons.

Summary: Are we all reviewing the same Box Set?
Review: I am a little surprised by some comments here regarding the "Little House On The Prairie" box sets. Someone commented that they should never have put 6 shows on a disc. What set do you have? I only have 4 episodes per disc. Michael Landon sounds like Mickey Mouse on helium? Huh? There is nothing wrong with the sound quality on my sets. Maybe you have a defective set? Cheap DVD player? I am very pleased with these sets and I am looking forward to Seasons 3 & 4. My 10 year old son, who never saw it when it originally aired, loves this show! We do marathons and he can't get enough! All you naysayers--- Go purchase the GoodTimes releases of Little House and compare the two! I think your expectations are way too high for a show that is almost 30 years old! Try watching reruns on TV- the quality will make you cringe. Thank you GoldHil for giving Little House the DVD treatment it deserves!

Summary: Mixed Bag
Review: This is a truly great show with a shoddy DVD release. The picture quality is poor. The sound is disrupted by the over compression of the series. (The cast sounds like they are on helium.) The packaging is careless (Discs feature photos of characters who will not join the show for several seasons, cast photos are awful, the booklets lists incorrect episodes, several mentioned special features are not actually included, booklet synopsis's are either incorrect or reveal too much.) The opening credits are missing from the episodes. Some episodes do not actually appear on the discs they are listed (yet, all episodes DO appear.)
This release was obviously thrown together by an idiot looking to make a quick buck - but, I imagine this is the best we will ever get. At least we can see EVERY episode, in order, and enjoy one of the greatest shows of all time.
There is always hope that the promised seasons 3 & 4 will produce far less embarrassing sets from IMAVISON.
This set is worth every penny - if you buy it used or on sale.

Review: I really enjoyed the Box set.I did notice as one of the reviews stated that they did not have the credits for the guess stars,But that did'nt bother me any or take away from the shows.I enjoyed them so much that at the time I was wondering if they had season 2.Over all my personal opinon is that anybody the is a Little House on the prairie fan well enjoy them.
