Summary: Best, Show, Ever
Review: I would like to note something here. Before i start reviewing, I am a very active person. I skateboard, i do XMA martial arts. I run, etc etc. I do NOT watch much TV which is odd for someone of my age ( im 16 btw), So when i say i stayed home from Tae Kwon Do class every friday to watch TV, and watch FIREFLY, I want you to know what that means.

Because i did. Everytime it came on, i was watching it, and i wouldnt move for the hour it was on. Comercials and all. Then FOX, in all its infinite wisdom (*cough BS cough*) cancels it. MY family was heartbroken. This is easily the greatest show or movie i have EVER seen, surpassing even the simpsons on my Favorites list. It is an amazing world, the 'verse 500 years in the future! Dont miss out on this AMAZING Show, and if you havent seen it before, look at the reviews. Ask yourself, "Can i Really afford to miss this?"
Keep flying people! The movie comes out April next year!

Summary: Best I've ever seen
Review: I'd never heard of this show until I noticed the customer reviews while browsing through Amazon.com ... The response was so overwhelming that I HAD to check it out. It is without a doubt the best series I've ever seen. I was completely absorbed by the stories and characters, and watched the entire series in one sitting - I just couldn't stop. I hope another station picks up on this great show and carries it forward!! (and I can hardly wait to see the movie!!!)

Summary: Better late than never.
Review: I'm one of those new Firefly fans. One of the many who had never seen it on tv, but got the chance to see the dvds, and are now addicted and unfulfilled. I am a long time Buffy fan (I own every season), and even though my friends are shocked to hear it, Firefly is better. The first time I saw it I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning watching it. I finished the whole dvd set in one night/morning. When I finally finished the last episode, it hit me...there won't be anymore. I was immediately sorry that I had crammed it all into one night insted of enjoying it over several, and now I've seen the whole season three times in one month. There was so much left undone, and unsaid. I like to see the end of things, call me crazy. Even if I know it will suck (ie: Matrix Revolutions), I still want to know how something is going to end. I was happy to hear there was going to be a movie, although I still have yet to hear a release date, and interested in seeing how Joss does after doing tv shows for so long. The only thing that worries me is that Firefly, like all good tv shows, was meant to unfurl over an extended period of time, whereas movies have very limited time. But I have faith in Joss, as Fox should've had. So basically what I'm trying to say is that in my opinion, Firefly was and is the best show I've ever seen. And I too am counting the days...if only I knew how many I had to count.

Summary: Simply sweet...
Review: It boggles the mind at how a gem like this was ever cancelled by Fox. Countless reviews have been posted on what a great show this is, and let me say that it's all true. I was worried at first because so many reviewers were Buffy fans. A show I could not stand. Thankfully I went ahead and bought it anyway! Here are a few things that I thought elevated this show to the next level...

Special Effects- The best I've seen on TV. The effects are used sparingly but to great effect and realism. Characters- This series proves that Sci-Fi can be entertaining using human characters while not having to rely on aliens for interesting interactions. Sexual tension and human greed create more than enough drama when written well. The Firefly universe- Brings a mix of many styles together creating a unique look and feel. The old west, Asian influences and futuristic backdrops are all interwoven for a rich visual palette. If your on the fence about getting this dvd, just get it. It's smart, funny and at times shocking! It's such a refreshing change from the Sci-Fi mainstream.

Summary: A Tragic Loss to the Television Landscape
Review: Let me preface this by saying that I rarely watch television anymore. The worst book ever published is a thousand times better than the best tv show left on the air... With the possible exception of Joan of Arcadia. Even that's not enough of a draw to keep me home on a Friday night though. And reality tv... Pheh...

But Firefly...

There was a time when Friday nights were reserved for tv time. Picture me, on the floor in front of the tv, begging my kids to play somewhere else... Plleeeeeeaase! It's only on once a week! And then the theme song begins... It's got a bit of a twang... fiddles... And then the words, the spirit. You instantly know what the show's going to be about. It's the American Dream. No... Not the new one about living like Trump in a palace seemingly miles above Manhattan... The real American Dream The one that brought our ancestors. It's about living free, room to stretch out and breathe, self reliance, and self determination. Would a simple television show dare to reach so far?

Firefly dared that and more, bringing the dream to the very stars. Along for the ride are some of the most complex and original characters ever seen in cookie-cutter-land. Then Fox, in true ratings-dazed fashion, lassoed the dream and pulled it down.

If you've ever dreamed of open-spaces, open-minds, and a life lived not without danger but without fear, you must own this collection. You must.

Summary: Breath of Fresh Air
Review: Living in Europe has meant that I only discovered "Firefly" long after its demise. The ending of the "Buffy" series presented us with a rather charismatic Big Bad in the form of 'Caleb' Nathan Fillion. A quick look in the IMDB told me he'd worked on another Whedon show, "Firefly". At about the same time Club RTL, a tiny cable channel, was showing this SF-Western. No sooner had it started or they cancelled it too. The mind boggles.

When you're presented with a Joss Whedon project, you know it's going to be interesting whichever way you look at it. It's going to have a wonderful use of language (no-one does dialogue like Whedon), an uncanny ability to blend drama and comedy, a healthy politically incorrect attitude, a tendency to throw all preconceived ideas and predictability out of the window and a strong cast to deliver the plot. What more do you want?

Then Fox and Club RTL go and cancel it. Oh well, I've pre-ordered the region 2 DVD-set despite seeing only 4 episodes. I'm sold. The first one I saw was "Out of Gas", which grabbed me from the first shot and kept me wondering until the very end how it all tied together. Whedon took three flashback lines to tell the story - seamlessly. Counter-balancing the angst of "Out of Gas", "Shindig" offered a light comedic tone, showing character development with great dialogue. "Safe" was perhaps a tad weaker, but "Ariel" was downright disturbing. Here we touched on the core of what could have been a great epic story: the Alliance and the Blue Sun company. Who are these men with Hands of Blue? What really happened to River and what is she capable of? Can Jayne be trusted and will Mal blow him out of the airlock? Dark, dark episode and so brilliant. Whedon was not allowed to tell the story. Here's hoping that he will at least be able to make that movie!

Summary: Not a Buffy fan...
Review: Never liked Buffy or Angel.

HATE Westerns.

Don't even watch TV anymore.

But some friends nagged and nagged me to watch Firefly. Whatever. Finally I sat down and watched an episode. And another. And another.
Oh no, what do you mean there are only fourteen?
No, I'm not one of those petition-signing Firefly zealots. But I really, really like this show.
They sucked me in and now I'm addicted. You have been warned. Firefly can be addictive.

Summary: Some of the Best Television Ever - A Sad Loss
Review: Now, I'm not a big fan of the whedon guy, and could care less for his other shows (why anyone but teenagers likes Buffy is a mystery to me - must be stunted emotional development ;), but this series is fantastic. I hadn't watched weekly television like this since Hill Street Blues or ST-TNG. Awesome watching, but it is truly sad to think this is it. The characters are diverse and all lovable, there's mystery in their backgrounds (why does the Sheperd know so much about weapons?), and tasty moral dilemmas every episode - and great humor in the dialogue. Great for any sci-fi fan.

Summary: Dogs of Worr paintball team inspired by Firefly
Review: Star Trek has moments of greatness. Star Wars was wonderful...in its day. This movie (I won't call it a TV series...that too often implies mediocrity) is extraordinary. Compelling scripts. Outstanding cinematography. Stellar ensemble acting. Modern special effects. My longstanding favorite movies have been films like Cinema Paradiso, Last of the Mohicans, and The Last Samurai. Firefly surpasses them all. I am so grateful that Backwoods Home Magazine guided us to Firefly. www.dogsofworr.com
