Review: As a small child I loved this video so much, and watched it so frequently, that for several years I firmly believed I had vacationed to China! Of course I have never been there, but every now and then I will see something that reminds me of "my trip to China" with Big Bird! I love this video for that reason!

Review: I credit this movie, along with Big Bird in Japan, for my current love for oriental culture and lifestyle. The sheer beauty of these movies is a great way for kids to become aquainted to China. The footage of the mountains, temples, and other wildlife in this movie is breath-taking, plus cultural examples, such as the clip of the citizens doing Ta'i Chi. The music is also very good. I begged my parents to tape it when i was little, only a few years old. I am 14 now, and am not embarassed to say that I will still watch them occasionally when I am bored just to see the the beauty of the Orient. They are on an old tape with other movies, so I am happy to find that these are available for purchase, and will do so ASAP. To anyone who has an interest in foreign culture or wishes to immerse their child in a new culture- Big Bird in China and Japan is an excellent way to do it and instill lasting loves for culture and memories in your child.

Review: I remember my dad taped this for me on BETA. It went along with Don't Eat the Pictures too. The Public Television Workshop and the Sesame Street gang did a beautiful job on this movie. Its a must see.

Summary: Even adults will love this one!
Review: I would never have thought I could watch a Big Bird video 4 times in a week and still enjoy it! For Christmas, I bought this video for my 2 1/2 year old daughter adopted from China and a friend adopted the same day. I hoped it would help them appreciate the beauty and culture of China and bought it based on the recommendations here. I thought it would be too old for her now but she loves it and asks for it. Unlike most of her other videos, I don't mind watching this one three days in a row. We both love Xiao Foo and are trying to learn a few Chinese phrases from the wonderfully sweet song she sings to Big Bird. The Monkey King might be a little scary for very small children because he has a painted face and appears and disappears but once I explained he was helping Big Bird and Xiao Foo, my daughter liked him more. I recently told a former student of mine from China about the video since she has a young son. She said she saw it in Jr. High school in China! Even thought it is very old (1982), it is still excellent.

Summary: Bird Bird is a Communist
Review: I'm usually not into Communist propaganda but this book is a real winner. Big Bird renounces his American citizenship and flees to communist China. He gets a job in a rice field, takes part in a guerilla revolution, overthrows the government and escalates a war with neighboring Taiwan. It's a bit graphic but anyone intersted in Marxism or restrictions of democratic freedoms will find this a good read.

Summary: 20 year old still remembers and loves it
Review: Just now remembering again this film from my childhood while writing a college take-home final for an honors Asian studies class, I am extremely grateful that my mom played this for me when I was a child. I'm now beginning to realize from where my deep respect of Asian cultures comes, and appreciating the folks at Sesame Street for my young enlightenment. I recommend this for all parents, and anyone who loves Sesame Street. Almost 21 years old, I am going to buy this film and watch it again. (along with "Don't Eat the Pictures"(1969) Buy this DVD for every child you know!

Summary: One of my daughter's favorite DVD
Review: My 18 month old daughter loves this DVD, she baby signs " more" after seeing it! We adopted our daughter from China and want her to know all about her birth country. The scenery is beautiful and is mostly around the Great Wall and some areas in Beijing.

I love the little girl who helps Big Bird on this wonderful journey to find the Phoneix bird! The little duckling dance, and the song Little Shou Fu sings to teach Big Bird some Chinese! Although my daughter doesn't quiet grasp that she is adopted as of yet, I think it is so very important that she doesn't loose her Chinese heritage. I am so pleased that it was released on DVD so she can enjoy this story for years to come!!!

My daughter is now 2 and still loves this movie! Now when we ask her " Who was born in China?" She will point to herself and say Emma! She's learned how to say hello and Big Bird in Chinese!

Summary: an excellent video for Chinese children and their parents
Review: This is a delightful video and can be truly appreciated by people who have been to China and people who have adopted children from China. My 2 year old chinese daughter loves this video and enjoys the chinese children and dancers in the movie, not to mention Big Bird! It combines history and historical landmarks with the people and culture of China. And the little girl in the movie is adorable!

Review: This is a wonderful look at China with an awesome tour guide...Big Bird. There is wonderful view of China along with a simple but enjoyable childrens fairytale/detective style story. My children who are now 18 & 17 are buying another copy for their new Chinese cousin as a gift. They remember this as one of their fondest childhood memories. This is a must have for any young child.
