Summary: An absolute precious treasure
Review: The first time I saw this movie was 9 years ago, after I had moved 2000 miles to California from my family, who lived in Indiana. It was my first Christmas without them and also my first Christmas where the weather was above 75 degrees. So on Christmas Eve evening 1990, I settled down to watch this movie and was so touched by the simple life this family had, the love they shared and the faith they all so deeply believed in. This is truly a precious treasure that I will share with all of my family in the years to come.

Summary: Why no tv showing?
Review: The Homecoming was one of my favorite christmas movies growing up.I remember seeing when it debuted in 1971.It was totally unlike any other holiday movie.I ordered the dvd because I haven't seen it in over 15 years because for some reason no network or cable stations will air it anymore. This is totally sad while stations are airing such "classics" as Home Alone 3, A Christmas Story,National Lampoons Thanksgiving Reunion and countless others pieces of crap.

Summary: Waltons - The Homecoming
Review: This has got to be the very best Christmas Movie in the world. I have a taped from TV version that I watch every black friday while I wrap my Christmas gifts. This is a tradition I have followed for about 15 years. The only problem is that it is a horrible copy. I have alot of static and I paused thought the comercials but it is a very bad copy. I have been looking for it on tape for years and I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

If anyone wants to see a good down to earth holiday movie this is the one for you. I rate this movie as high as I would rate "It's A Wonderfull Life" I feel this movie is in the same caliber and I wish it was shown on TV again.

If there is anyone who reads this and knows how to get a copy of this video, I would be forever in your debt. Please contact me at: duvallsb@aol.com with any information you can give me. Thanks

Summary: BEWARE CHOPPED-UP VERSION OF THIS TV CLASSIC!!
Review: This is a wonderful movie--don't get me wrong, but the version now circulating on tape (with the "...A Christmas Story" mysteriously removed from the title) has been chopped down from 120 minutes to 98 minutes!! How DARE they--and WHY??

And, no, as one poster has suggested, this time difference is NOT simply because of the 2 hour running-time on TV (which, actually, was originally 2 1/2 hours with commercials); the film HAS been cut, and the scenes with the kids in bed waiting for Santa/Daddy prove it [sloppy video cuts].
I can NOT speak for the DVD however, as I have yet to see it and have high hopes for it.

Summary: "Who wants to see somethin' pretty?"
Review: This is an absolutely fantastic Christmas movie in my opinion. This made-for-TV movie from the 70's has it's own little niche in the Christmas specials, and it is unlike other Christmas movies. It's got a little bit of everything. . . it's family, it's funny and humorous without being slapstick - we have to laugh at ourselves for how we really are and how we really can be, it educates us, and it brings forth some issues that sometimes we don't want to really see. It turns everyday life into an adventure, and in the end, of course, it's comforting.

After having seen the TV series for years before seeing this, I had to adjust to the acting/portrayal differences between the mothers that played the role of Olivia Walton. As the mother, Patricia Neal is a bit more emotional and less gentle than Michael Learned.

This movie is a tradition in our family.

I will suggest that the "language" that makes this PG rated might be when Mary Ellen uses a derogatory and somewhat archaic reference to 'p-ss ants' (calls her siblings this term), and maybe when John Boy makes a statement concerning Mary Ellen's 'bosoms'. . . He says, "They'll grow." Then there are the two sisters with Papa's Secret Recipe (obviously, a homebrewed liquor concoction). That's just for your information in case you are hoping to show this to a particular group of people.

Summary: Nothing Like It!!
Review: This is my absolute favorite. I grew up watching this special and it makes every christmas complete. I would have loved to join Miss Emily and Miss Maimey listening to the Victrola and drinking The Recipe.

Summary: A wonderful classic!
Review: This movie is a classic in my family. Patricia Neal is just fabulous...(I like her much better than Michael Learned in her portrayal of Mama Walton). I could watch this over and over...truly gets you in the Christmas spirit.

Summary: Holiday Favorite
Review: This will always be a family favorite which I am now passing down to my 13 year-old daughter and 4 neices and nephew. What a warm, family film to watch together and establish an atmoshpere for the holiday season. "The Homecoming" is also one of few that lacks violence and offensive language, on the contrary instilling and reinforcing wholesome traditional family values. God Bless and enjoy!

Summary: A Christmas Tradition For All Famlies
Review: When I was a child I remember watching this movie on t.v. every Christmas and how good it was. Over the years they showed it once a year and I finally taped it on V.H.S. One day I found it in a video store and immediatly bought it. This was truly a keepsake and a treasure. I watch this movie at least twice every Christmas and definatly on Christmas Eve even if it means staying up after every one else has went to bed. This movie gives me such a warm feeling that no other movie has given me ever. I just wish America could experience humble Christmas' like this again. The scenery is beautiful and strong performances by Neal, Thomas, Bergan, Corby and many others. If there was a gift I could buy for everyone for Christmas it would be this one. And only hope it would mean as much to them as it has me.
