Summary: Can't Get Enough!
Review: I absolutely love "Good Times - The Complete First Season"! I have watched this show on television for years and have always loved it. The show was cancelled when I was an infant, but I was fortunate to watch it in re-runs while growing up. It was interesting to see how a working class black family living in the projects could rise about all of their struggles and manage to be a loving family. The lessons taught in just about each episode are not blatant, but you definitely get the point, whether it's from Esther Rolle's loving character, Florida Evans, or the stern father James Evans, played perfectly by John Amos.

I love this DVD set because I can not only watch all 12 episode from the first season, but I can also pick and choose which episodes I want to watch.

I would highly recommend this DVD to any fan of good television! I can't wait for the second season to be released. This is definitely one show I want to collect! Buy this DVD set!

Summary: Great Show - Bad DVD
Review: I love this show but the DVD picture is just as fuzzy as a VHS tape. I expected a higher quality image. Instead, it is no better than a VHS copy.

Summary: The Foundation
Review: Like many of the classic 70's series being released, this one has no extras despite the fact that most of the cast members with the exception of Esther Rolle are still living. An interview or a director commentary would have been nice, like the E special about "Good Times." Even still, these first few episodes laid down the foundation for what would become one of the most talked about shows in television history, especially in the African-American community, it was either loved or hated. The first episode is "Getting Up The Rent" where James struggles to find out how he is going to come up with the money to pay the rent. This first episode set the tone for the series, The Evans family ALWAYS seemed to have a probably with money and making ends meet. Other good episodes on this set include the infamous "Black Jesus," "Junior Gets a Patron" (where an old enemy of James sponsors JJ's art career, and "The Check Up," where the family fears James has hypertension. It's not fair that this set is priced the same as all of the other sets which inlcude more episodes, but this set is a must have to complete your "Good Times" collection. If it is not your goal to have every episode on DVD, pick up seasons 2 or 3 first.
