Summary: A bargain. Don't pass this by!
Review: I too paid much more for this when it was a private Sullivan label issue. It was worth it then, at this price there is no question! It is fantastic that these shows have been packaged together in their basically original form. Sure, it would have been even nicer had they included the Florida rehearsal show and later video clips that aired. But, that this was released at all, and in this nice of quality, I'm very happy with it as it is. You get to see history in the making all over again, and this DVD brings back a lot of forgotten memories--if you are old enough to remember those times.Some of the other acts presented are surprisingly bad by current standards (much worse than what you see now on amateur shows) but that just puts The Beatles into more perspective of how special they were in that time, and continue to be into the future. You also get to see very young pre-Monkee Davy Jones perform with the Oliver cast. Considering all the other bad and dodgey quality "Beatles" DVDs being offered now, this one by far should rise to everyone's must have list. Thanks to Apple for not finding some way or excuse to sue and stop this, or forcing them to put new interview bits over top of the performances. See what we can get when people that actually seem to care a LITTLE about the fans are in charge! Just think what could be if fans really were in charge of released material.

Review: I'm a Monkees fan that bought this set to see Davy Jones sing with the cast of Oliver(They should have listed his name on the DVD box then more Davy/Monkees fans would buy it too.)
I also enjoyed seeing the Beatles make history. The sound and picture are great on this set, way better than I expected. I saw a lot of new things, because I could zoom in. There's a cute part when Paul mentions their record, and label, and John was afraid that they weren't aloud to mention that on TV, and he says, "Ooh are we aloud to say that," Paul says that sure they can. It was a cute scene.
I felt the excitement like I was there when I watched it. You could tell even then there was something special (monumental)about the group. I have shown parts of the DVD my classroom to pass on this great culture to other generations. Don't pass this DVD up!

Summary: Ed rocks!
Review: If you like Ed, you'll love this DVD, featuring those four moptopped lads from Liverpool. You'll also love the commercials for Anacin, Kent cigarettes, and Clown Meat Juice. Apparently in the 60's they would grind clowns into a viscous liquid and market the resultant beverage. In any event, you will love this video!!

Summary: Not the full shilling
Review: In all honesty, there is an excitement to these initial appearances that redefined everything about music, and for that reason, they are terrific. It is just amazing how charming The Beatles are, and what polished professionals they were at this point in their lives. REM still isn't there, and U2 remain pretenders.
However, there is also a lot more to their relationship with Ed than is present here and it's a pity such things as sound checks and backstage footage, of which there is plenty, wasn't culled for this. senor Wences is a poor substitute. More importantly, the post touring videos that The Beatles distributed to Ed first, and through him to the rest of the world are not part of this. I think this sells the story short. The Beatles and Ed Sullivan created MTV with the films and performances of their post 66 songs. These short films were often accompanied with the kind of banter that was the Liverpudlian stock in trade, and was so essential to their winning people over, be it from Lennon's classic verbal jousting with Morcombe and Wise, to their goofing with Ed who might not always get what they were on about. Pity something could not have been worked out with APPLE and the lads so that some of this could be re-lived. Essentially, The Beatles were also rare in the way they refused to believe the hysteria was worth regarding. Totally ego-less, especially for rock performers, they never lost touch with who they were, and that may stand, along with their music, as quite an incredible acheivement. They were the genuine article. In fact,they were the last genuine article. More away from the spotlight in the Ed Sullivan theatre might have been extraordinarily welcome.

Summary: Less than stellar remastering
Review: It was great to sit back and see this dvd as I was around when these shows originaly aired.The first thing I have to warn everyone is that the 5.1 track is horrid but the mono track is excellent.
Talk about looking through a window into mid 60's america I stand corrected, "white" america as no blacks could be seen in the audience save for the Florida show where Sonny Liston and Joe Louis were introduced and take a bow.It is amazing to see how different the Beatles appearance was compared to the manner of style the audience had.
I would highly recommend this dvd to all Beatle fans and anyone else who wants a nostalgic peek to back in the day but don't expect too much from the black and white video or the audio.

Review: Most of us have seen scattered clips of the Beatles' historic appearences on "The Ed Sullivan Show". Most often shown over the years on various T.V. retrospectives, was Ed's introduction of "these four young lads from Liverpool" followed by a mesmerizing performance of "All My Loving". But here for the first time, is a chance to not only re-live ALL of the Beatles' classic "Ed Sullivan Show" performances, but to witness them in their proper 'perspective', EXACTLY as they originally aired on February 9, February 16, and February 23, 1964, and September 12, 1965. These four historic telecasts are shown in their entirety, un-cut, including all of the original television commercials. Watching these shows, and finally getting to see the Beatles' stellar performances among all of the various artists, comedians, magicians, acrobats, etc. who appeared with them on those four shows, is nostalgia is its purest form. One might think that all of these other performers would have been annoyed at having the Beatles overshadow them, in effect 'stealing' each of their respective moments of glory. But I'll bet the vast majority of those performers over the 40 years since the original airings, have instead 'bragged' to their own children, and their grandchildren, that they had appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show the very same night as the Beatles did!! This DVD is a MUST-OWN for both Beatle fans, and general T.V. buffs who just enjoy soaking up nostalgia at its best!
