Summary: Worth watching again and again...
Review: I watched the Mary Tyler Moore Show as a small child and have loved it through the years. This DVD set of season one allows me to watch it with the highest quality picture and sound while avoiding commercials. Some of the best shows are included in this set: the first one, "Love Is All Around" as well as "The Snow Must Go On" and "Christmas And The Hard Luck Kid-II." I am desparately waiting for subsequent seasons to be released. From what I understand, this may not happen. I have tried to access the petition sites listed in reviews here, however, the link seems to be dead. After searching the Internet, I have found a working link. Here it is........

Summary: Very Strange
Review: At a time when TV crud like "The Anna-Nichole Smith Show," "The Man Show," "Son of the Beach," and "Jackass" can release season after season into the DVD market, it is very strange that MTM, one of the most revered shows in TV history, cannot make it past the first season. As someone who has worked in the television business, this gives me the impression that something is going on in the internal politics of the studio or the business relationships involved that is blocking the release. Nothing else really makes sense.

Review: I bought this DVD as soon as it was released last year.
It's so wonderful! I keep checking back at Amazon to see if Season 2, perhaps by a miracle would be soon released.. and to read everyone's thoughts on delaying season 2. By now we should be on Season 4 or 5 out on DVD.
I cannot believe that Fox will not release Season 2..
I hope the Mary Tyler Moore cast will get this resolved and taken to another Studio that does DVD remastering..
If Fox won't do it, I'm sure there are lots of Studios that would love to do it..
We all love Mary, Ted, Georgette, Rhoda, Phyllis, Lou, Sue Ann, and Murray... We want every episode of the Mary Tyler Moore show.. I signed the petition at http://mtmshow.com, and I hope you all will too... I don't care about having other Tv shows like I do this one..

Summary: Waiting for season 2?...sign the petition!
Review: Having just turned 30, I was a little young to remember The Mary Tyler Moore Show on TV in it's original broadcast, but thankfully due to reruns, it has been etched into my memory. As a young boy I can vividly recall the show being a fixture in our home, and we still recollect our favorite episodes. What a fabulous show...and what a wonderful piece of Americana. The purchase of this Twentieth Century Fox DVD was a no-brainer for me. Any one reading this review, doesn't need me to sell them on the show, so I'll comment on other things. First of all, the quality of the transfer is exceptional. I've never seen or heard the show better. The Box set is also packed with extras as well such as documentaries, interviews, commentary, etc. All said and done, it's a marvelous effort from Fox. And that, my friends, is where the praise ends. Although I am technically a member of Generation X, I am not so quick to cheer the culture of my generation. One only has to turn on the television on any given night to witness how far we've sunk in terms of what we consider entertainment. On most sitcoms today, in place of well timed humor, witty dialogue, and intelligent storylines, you will find mostly low brow potty humor...with punchlines consistantly being derived from either the scatological or the sexual. The only thing more shocking than the production of this sort of material on TV, is our general acceptance of it into our homes. It's nice to see, as with Season One of MTM, that this wasn't always the case. For all of those who care to know, Fox is NOT planning on releasing any more of MTM on DVD. From what I can gather, this brilliant decision was made after season one sold poorly...supposedly. So I guess that the current slew of trash TV that you see boxed up and ready for sale, is selling better than this classic, historic show. I refuse to believe that. And Fox, if MTM is selling poorly, then the problem lies somewhere with your company, not with the show. As all fans of this show realize, Season One, although great, is only an introduction. The real genious occurs as each actor grows into their character, and as the characters grow with one another. Maybe Fox could be convinced of their stupidity. There has been a petition started to change their decision. Go to mtmshow.com and look for the petition link. It's quick and easy to fill out, and who know's...maybe it will work.

Review: Postings dated September 3, 2003 and May 23, 2003 gave two phone numbers for contacting Fox to influence them to follow through on their announcement to release Season 2. I tried using those numbers yesterday. Neither is currently operative. The mtmshow.com website, however, has started a petition to campaign for the release of the remaining seasons. Thusfar the site has close to 600 signatures. When you go to the site you have to scroll down to a paragraph titled: "Petitions". The process to support the campaign is quite simple. We Californians beleive in the power of petitions; just ask our former governor, Gray Davis.

Summary: Five stars for MTM, zero for FOX.
Review: Okay, time to vent... I waited for nearly a year in anticipation after it was first announced that MTM would be coming to DVD in 2002. Finally, the DVD format had matured, I thought. The very first day it came out, I bought it, and my wife and I were dazzled by the quality of the box set (my original review can also be found on Amazon). It was everything we could have hoped for and more. We were tantalized by the insert card that noted that Season Two would be following in March of 2003. We eagerly marked our calendars. And then... nothing. While obscure (and questionable titles) continued to pour out on the DVD format, from the disastrous Pink Lady variety show to every last episode of the Avengers, the much-anticipated MTM Season Two continued to be postponed, until we found out that Fox considered the Season One DVD a failure and canceled the remaining season releases altogether. In an age where television is increasingly dominated by an endless parade of sex and disposable, low-brow humor, is there no longer any room for or interest in a Mary Richards, a Lou Grant or a Rhoda Morgenstern? We can only assume that by pulling the plug on MTM, Fox has prematurely given up on its large library of other television classics (with the notable exception of M*A*S*H) -- an extremely unfortunate development for the TV-on-DVD movement and a shocking betrayal of trust that may cause some to think twice before investing in other half-hearted DVD releases. Perhaps Fox will kindly allow other studios to release these shows instead, but don't hold your breath. Years from now, MTM will still be considered one of the greatest and most significant shows ever to grace the small screen, and the buffoons who botched this DVD will be long forgotten. In the meantime, unfortunately, we will have to suffice ourselves with DVD releases of such forgettable filler as Dark Angel and Son Of The Beach. I couldn't even bear to look at my MTM DVD box set on the shelf any longer. I sold it on Half.com. NOTE: By the way, Fox is trying to salvage the Season One release by repackaging it as the "Mary Tyler Moore Collection" on its website. A truly wasted opportunity. SECOND NOTE: I find it interesting that while MTM is considered an expensive flop, all the remaining seasons of the Dick Van Dyke Show have been announced for release in 2004. Even the infamous "Mary and Rhoda" TV movie flop is making it to DVD in short order. Why are other studios able to have problem-free Classic TV releases while Fox can't seem to get its act together for such an essential show as MTM? It seems unfair to blame a lack of interest in MTM for the "failure" of the box set -- but it is doubtful Fox will realize where the true problem rests anytime soon.

Summary: no season 2 = fox sucks!
Review: this dvd is simply outstanding. the extras, the packaging, and the transfer are all superb. i can't recommend it highly enough. but. seems like fox is going to ignore requests for them to release the following seasons on dvd, and i, for one, am really ticked off. if fox is going to whine about the high cost of this collection, and "disappointing" sales, then why is it that one of their brain dead employees hasn't come up with the 'brilliant' idea of simply producing the series in a more economical format? sure, the extras are nice to view.... ONCE. the packaging is lovely, til you get used to it. but what fox is missing, yet again, is that the CONTENT is what's important here. producing this set cost alot? well then produce a more basic set at less cost, and fulfill the responsibility you have to follow through on your original committment, as well as the onus you have to share such an important part of television history. what started out as an innovative network, with cutting edge humour and relevence, is quickly becoming a one dimensional, predictable company that doesn't deserve the responsibility they have to media history, or to their customers. what a shame.

Summary: Excellent Season But Where's The Rest?
Review: I was 5 years old when The Mary Tyler Moore Show started and I don't know how many seasons the show had but I remember watching some episodes when I was a child and liking them and I liked all of the characters but especially Mary, Rhoda and Lou and I really liked the friendship between Mary and Rhoda and I liked Mary's peppy personality and Rhoda's sarcastic humor and when they started showing reruns on Nick At Nite and then TV Land I started watching them and saw a lot of episodes that I either didn't see as a child or just didn't remember and I really became even more of a fan and when I was in a store and saw they had the complete first season DVD boxset I bought it and I love it and think this is one of the best sitcoms of all time and just a very funny clever show and I loved how they cleaned up and remastered the picture, the colors are so vibrant and much better then the washed out colors shown on TV and it is obvious that a lot of tender loving care was put into restoring the color and I highly recommend this set. Hey, Fox, when are you going to release the complete second season of this classic on DVD and how about the rest of the seasons? Come on, this show deserves to have all of it's season on DVD!

Summary: Great quality all around. Where's Season Two?
Review: Mary Tyler Moore is a must-see series. Mary was the original "real" single woman, working hard at her job, juggling relationships, forming friendships (Mary and Rhoda are still arguably the best portrayal of a woman-woman friendship ever shown on TV). She's the predecessor to Ally McBeal and every other single-working-women on TV that followed her. It's also a great, funny series on all kinds of levels. As a TV addict, this is the way I wish all of my favorite series box sets were. The packaging design is absolutely gorgeous, featuring a beautiful early-season Mary in full length shots and snappy colors. There is one full disc of extras filled with the kind of goodies that a fan loves. The episodes themselves have been cleaned up beautifully - compared to other '70s sitcoms, this is the best quality I've seen by far, and on a par with the quality of M*A*S*H DVDs. This is probably because this series was filmed on film rather than video, but still they have cleaned it up wonderfully - the picture crispness and color fidelity is a vast improvement over the ones on the VHS tapes I have of the series (Mary and Rhoda box set, for example.) Like others here I'm very disappointed that Season Two hasn't been released yet. Granted, this box is rather expensive - nearly twice that of similar series box sets - but for all of the above reasons, it's worth it. Even if they drop the extras and reduce the cost of each box set, I really hope that they will continue to give us the episodes at least.
