Summary: The Rolls-Royce of Sit-Coms!
Review: Mary Tyler Moore is the "Virginia Slims" poster-child WITHOUT the nasty nicotine habit! -- From that very first time you see her throw that wool-hat in the air, you know that "she's gonna make it after all!"

In the very beginning, when a 30 year old "emancipated" Mary arrives in a strange big city to "start a new life", she knew that she was an employable woman, who just needed a break. "Mr. Grant" seemed impressed with the applicant for the producer job at his local TV News Network, saying that she had "spunk". A bit bashful, Mary thanks him for what she believed was a compliment, but immediately Mr. Grant follows-up with a bellowing "I HATE SPUNK!" and Mary shruggs as though fearful of being devoured by a beast. - They don't write comedy like that anymore!

The first season introduces the colorful characters in Mary's life. Not only the co-workers are explored, but also several of the neighbors in Mary's apartment building, as well as a steady parade of "dates" who go through her door (and in rare special incidences stay for breakfast - this fact was only implied, as 1970s mentalities did not allow for a single woman to have amorous experiences without going straight to hell).

The cast is a joy to watch, even obnoxious Ted, who reminds of the "Cowardly Lion" in The Wizard of Oz. At times one feels pity for the ones who hold the News Network together (namely Mary and Murray), while remaining the least rewarded (and worst paid) team members. Still, no matter how "deep" the issues may get, there are always several laughs a minute, and some of them will last several minutes! Get the popcorn and ENJOY!*****

Summary: It's About Time!!!
Review: I saw these episodes when they originally aired on a black and white tv with no cable and loved them all! Over the years I have seen the episodes on cable (chopped to pieces due to commercials) and wondered what lines were cut. Now I own this dvd set and can't wait to own the rest! The sound and picture quality is top notch and the episodes are uncut! I have fond memories of all seven seasons of this series and will buy any subsequent seasons that are released. Thank you Fox Home Video.

Please continue to release the subsequent seasons. If anyone ever enjoyed the MTM show, this collection is a must!!! A+++++

Summary: The BEST DVD in my entire collection.....
Review: Every fan of the show MUST own this collection. From the outer packaging to the content on the DVD's....it's SUPERB. KUDOS to all of those involved in putting this collection together. And SUPER KUDOS to those originally involved in producing this TRUE TREASURE of American television.

Summary: More MTM DVD's like this, and other shows, please!
Review: The only reason I hesitated to buy this at first was that it is only one season, and I would like ALL the seasons in one package. BUT, I don't regret buying it to help show consumer support for the idea, meaning... This is the ONLY right way to do DVD's of great shows like Mary Tyler Moore: as many shows as possible on as few discs as possible. I couldn't care less about the extra stuff, which was mildly interesting but moslty a waste of space. I would rather see more shows from the later seasons, which I liked better than season one. I hope they will be following this one. Also hope to see and will purchase complete seasons of Superman with George Reeves, Bewitched (color with Dick York), Andy Griffith Show, Lucy, Sgt. Bilko, Jack Benny, You Bet Your Life, My Favorite Martian, Leave It To Beaver... but ONLY if they put as many shows as possible on as few discs as possible. The whole beauty of the DVD medium is how compact and durable it is. I regret all the VHS tapes I've bought, and how they degrade and take up space and collect dust. DVD rules! But only if it's used as it should be, not if only two hours of shows are put on a single disc and weighed down with excess packaging as a gimmick to milk money out of customers. If that's all that's available for other shows, I'll wait.

Summary: Great DVD But Sales Soft
Review: This is an impressive, comprehensive and beautifully rendered presentation of one of the best television shows ever made. As an aficianado of MTM, however, I am concerned that Fox may pull the plug soon on this series. Peter Staddon of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has said that sales of MTM Season One have been disappointing. In fact, he has openly wondered whether Fox should have produced a "Best of MTM" set instead. While Season Two has already been announced for March 2003, I think it is time that fans step up to the plate and buy this wonderful set as soon as possible in order to preserve the studio's faith and interest in releasing the complete remaining seasons (up to and including Season Seven) on DVD. It would be a shame to miss out on even one classic episode of this legendary series.

Summary: The Mary Tyler Moore Show - The Complete First Season
Review: Originally, I had heard little of this program, until someone at work mentioned they liked the show. Not much of a fan, to say the least, I was very surprised... THIS COLLECTION IS SUPERB!!! I've enjoyed every single episode immensely. If you're a person, like myself, who likes a comedy series that is warm-hearted, delightful, spicy, and of course funny, buy "The Mary Tyler Moore Show - The Complete First Season." Trust me, you do NOT have to be a fan of this show to appreciate it. It is a show for everyone! Once you've seen this DVD, you'll be hooked for sure!! Mary WILL turn you on with her smile! I can only hope they will present the rest of the series on DVD as well, because DVD is such good quality. What a treat it is!!! I highly recommend it!!

Summary: Wow
Review: This is quite possibly the greatest television DVD in the history of the world. BUY IT!...

Summary: Television at it's best!
Review: At last, one of the greatest television series of all time gets the treatment it deserves. The episodes in this set shine with bright, vibrant colors, unlike the washed out tones we've seen in syndication and on cable. Plus it's nice to know that you're seeing the complete episodes as opposed to ones that have been trimmed to fit in more commercials.

While this boxed set is more expensive than some of the others devoted to classic television shows, the slightly higher cost is more than justified by an entire disc of supplemental material. (MASH and ALL IN THE FAMILY, for example, do not include anything beyond the season's episodes.) The 90 minute documentary features new interviews with the cast as well as many members of the original creative team. It is well put together as well as informative. It is also the best of the recent "Making of MTM" specials that have run on CBS, TVLand, and A & E.

Other extras include CBS promos, Emmy Award clips, a trivia challenge, and commentaries on three of the 24 episodes. The CBS promos are not for specific episodes, but instead are fun, funky, pre fall season spots drawing attention to the then unaired MTM and the CBS season ahead. The Emmy Award clips include funny banter between Lucille Ball and Jack Benny as they present Ed Asner and Valerie Harper their awards. The interactive trivia challenge has a different person involved with the MTM show - either in front of or behind the camera - asking each multiple choice question. And in one of the commentaries, you can even hear the story of how the MTM kitten logo came to be.

This boxed set is truly a must have for television fans!

Summary: Mary Tyler Moore 1st Season
Review: Outstanding! After seeing the first season on DVD, you will never want to watch it on Nick At Night again. The DVD has restored the series beautifully and the film has been slowed back down to it's original pace. Episodes are 25 minutes long, without commercials! Many of the punchlines which have been edited out for the sake of a 30 minute time frame on tv have been added back in. I look forward to season two and hope that the rest of the series makes it's way to DVD as well. Great documentary on the making of season 1 on disc 4 and the CBS promo clips are cool to see 30 years later.

Thanks!

Summary: No TV on DVD collection is complete without Mary
Review: The Mary Tyler Moore Show, in its seven year run on CBS-TV, came as close to perfection as a sitcom could. It boasted some of the greatest characters, finest acting, and most skillfully crafted scripts on television in its day, and those qualities still hold up wonderfully today.

This 24-episode DVD set presents the entire first season (1970-1971), uncut, beautifully restored and remastered, and presented in chronological order.

There is simply no excuse for you not to buy this set. You wouldn't want to let the remaining six seasons rot in edited cable TV airings while complete series of pieces of dreck like "Friends" get released, would you?
