Summary: Disappointing DVD treatment for a great show...
Review: "Little House on the Prairie" needs no defense or praise: it was a fabulous show, it easily could have lasted longer on television, and it remains eminently watchable and rewatchable today. Unfortunately, the show has suffered in DVD treatment. Many episodes are inexplicably cut, as if they were taken from a TBS rerun feed instead of the original film. The picture quality could also be much better. It is unfortunate that such a fabulous show has suffered so on DVD. LHOTP deserves better. I wish I could recommend these DVDs, but perhaps with enough fan complaint better editions (maybe also with some extras!) will one day become available.

Summary: Television at its best!
Review: First of all, I love Little House and will without a doubt purchase the entire collection of dvds for this series. It is wonderful to watch the shows in order and to see how the series evolved through the seasons. I have to say though that there are errors and those errors have been noticed. Episodes are flipped around (season 3), segways to "commercials" are chopped, the box art and dvd art seem to be one season ahead, and there are many edited scenes - something I really didn't expect with dvds. For example, I have an old vhs version of "I'll Be Waving As You Drive Away" and there are scenes on that tape that are NOT included in the season 4 boxed-set version of that episode! I really hope season 5 fares better in this respect as every scene is important and should, if at all possible, be included! Regardless of these criticisms I'm very glad this series is available in season sets. Little House has lots of class which is something sorely missing on television today.

Summary: Love it!
Review: For people who love LHOTP and have been aching to get them on dvd's for years - this is wonderful!! I love sitting down and watching the stories each night minus the ads and having a heartwarming feeling afterward.People are being highly critical of the audio and dvd quality. I'm glad they're not souped up to be in 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS because it maintains its 1970's flavor just like the TV shows do! The DVD quality is fine - not sure why the complaints there. As for missing scenes, I am LHOTP addict and don't notice missing scenes from the way they aired on TV. THere are some Videos that ADDED a few bonus scenes, but if you compare the DVD's to television airing, it's all there. ADDED scenes are just a bonus, and you can't complain if they're not there. ALL in all - if you love LHOTP and aren't a tech junkie looking for the maximum in DVD formats, you'll be well satisfied with these versions.

Review: For those who'd like to know, here is the in-order list of episodes from Season Four, which first aired from September 1977 to March 1978. Memorable moments include the death of Laura's beloved dog Jack (and the introduction of his replacement Bandit), a near divorce of the Garveys (that concludes in the judge pronouncing both of them "crazy,"), Carrie's adventures in a hot-air balloon, the birth of Grace Ingalls, Mary's dealing with blindness, and the introduction of Adam Kendall. Review: Hello all, boy I was thinking of buying all of the seasons on dvd but now... I have heard alot of complains... I watched 1-4 seasons but I rented them from netflix.com and the pic and all was clear.
My particuar comment pertains to "I'll be waiveing as you drive away" this is a two parter and in it mary loses her sight. I think that michal and the rest of the show creater did a wonderful job on this episod. I am visually impaired myself and I have guide dog. I have seen this episode many times and no one else since malissa sue anderson (mary) has ever played a blind person well. She did the best job I have ever seen. She along with the man who played adam did a fantasic job!

Summary: Keep them coming!
Review: I also grew up watching the Little House series including the later ones called The Little House Years which until recently, was carried by TBS. The entire series is shown in out of order episodes, sometimes showing part two with no part one or one without two. It's great to finally be able to collect the entire series on DVD to keep. Sure, the video could be better but film fades over the years and is very expensive to restore. A perfect example is Pollyanna by Disney. They have a review that shows how the film was and what they had to do to restore it. A very big job indeed!

Summary: When are the rest due out?
Review: I always remember Season 4, and the following seasons being my favourite. Mainly due to Mary going blind, the birth of little Grace, and then following on from season 4, the developing relationship between Mary & Adam Kendall, briefly touched upon in season 4; and Laura growing up, and meeting Almanzo. There are some terrific episodes in this season, although it is disappointing, as there seems to be no sign of the fifth season coming out on DVD - maybe I just need to have patience, what do you think? There is still so much else to come, including Albert appearing as the Ingalls' adopted son (who actually appeared in an episode in this season, playing a young Charles!), Nellie Oleson getting married, and having a baby (poor child), and so many other great things. There were also some other episodes shown on UK TV here a few months ago, shown some obviously later episodes, which Michael Landon unfortunately doesn't appear much in, due to the fact he was very ill at this point. (He died in 1991 from pancreatic cancer) But who I did spot, making a very early TV appearance, was Shannen Doherty herself! Sporting a fetching pair of braids! Just a little bit of trivia for you - Melissa Gilbert (Laura) actually dated Tom Cruise when they were both teenagers, the lucky thing! And if you see a recent photo of her - she's certainly grown up since her days as Laura hasn't she?! Definitely two things that the guys will like that Laura definitely never had - or showed much of when she was older in the show! Some of the most powerful episodes in this season, was the last two - "I'll Be Waving As You Drive Away". This two-parter shows Mary dealing with the fact she is blind, and meeting Adam Kendall, her teacher, and later, her husband. It also shows the Ingalls, and everyone else having to leave Walnut Grove due to some railroad nonsense - never really explained, or else, I couldn't understand it! It's probably a good thing I was already crying when Mary woke up screaming, because everything was "dark". I can't wait for season five to come out. This DVD collection is perfect for anyone who grew up with this - and I certainly know I did! Every Sunday, Channel 4, brings back memories. Altogether now everyone: "Old Man Tucker was a fine old man, washed his face in a frying pan, combed his hair with a wagon wheel..."

Summary: Great Series, Poor DVD
Review: I am in accord with most of the reviews here. This series is an "Evergreen"...something precious that will never die... However, the company that is releasing these DVDs have got to get on the ball and start releasing a quality product. These episodes are badly edited and a lot of scenes are deleted.....true "Little House" fans know this!!!! Apparently the company is not listening to the complaints because each season gets worse! Give us the quality DVD that we deserve with full restoration like "The Waltons". That is a quality product at almost half the price that "Little House" is charging for their set...cuts and all. The video plays fine on my DVD....the audio could be improved. The episodes are fine...some a little better than others. Melissa Gilbert as Laura can be irritating at times and the payoff in a lot of these episodes could be better as well. But for the most part "Little House" is numero uno compared to the garbage of today's television. Get the rest of the seasons out there but get them fully uncut and restored!! By the way, Season five is coming out on June 29th!!
