Summary: Looking Forward To Seasons Two and Three
Review: This is a wonderful collection. I am glad you have put it on DVD. There are some scenes I have noticed that were not included in the regular series. I enjoyed the Pilot "No Place To Hide". I love the way the scenes were incorporated into the other episodes. The pictures are so clear. And the best - NO COMMERCIALS!!!! I am enjoying these DVDs as I write this review. I am looking forward to Seasons Two and Three.Thank you

Summary: Lost in Space is out of this world!
Review: I've been waiting for years for Lost In Space to come out on DVD. I am very pleased that it has finally arrived. I've watched almost all the episodes on this DVD set. The first season is pretty good. But, I must say the picture quality was a little dark. But acceptable. I love the packaging. Very user friendly. Easy to get to each disc. I didn't realize until now that there were 29 episodes to the first season. WOW!! You don't get that anymore with the shows on TV today. You're lucky if you get 24 episodes per year. Star Trek was around 26 episodes, and Stargate SG-1 is only about 22 episodes per season. So 29 is fantastic. When I watched LIS as a kid, Dr. Smith irritated me then and he still does today. At times I think his character makes the show laughable. I think the show would of been treated more serious if his character wasn't so comical. As for weather or not the 2nd or 3rd season is going to be released on DVD.....well, did you see the rating it got on Amazon. I have no doubt the rest of the seasons will be released on DVD. Soon I hope.

Summary: great collection, will there be more?
Review: It's great to see LIS on DVD. Good quality, nice packaging.I wonder if seasons 2 and 3 will ever be out on DVD? If so, I'd like to see some extras, such as the 1973 cartoon (with Harris reprising his role as Dr. Smith!); the slightly different unaired version of RELUCTANT STOWAWAY that I read about in the LIS HANDBOOK; the movie (because the Robot had the same actor doing the voice); LIS FOREVER (which has Harris and Billy reprising their roles!); and the episode of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, where Forbes Rainey plays the President of the U.S., the same part he played in RELUCTANT STOWAWAY. And bloopers, maybe (if there are any). For now, buy season 1, and hope for the best in the future. Never fear, Smith is here!

Review: I just wanted to express my appreciation to everyone who has posted a review here. I'm really flattered and happy to see the first season LIS DVD box doing so well. Of course I can't be objective about it, but the first season is definitely my favorite. It was a wonderful experience for me to make the show as a kid and it's a wonderful experience now to watch it with my kids and to see that it still excites and pleases people all over our woe begotten beautiful planet. So, on behalf of my fellow LIS cast members (who are still in touch with each other regularly and are still very much a "family") Thank you all for the kind words. Enjoy!

Summary: LIS looks better with time
Review: There was a day when any discussion of Lost In Space always brought an inevitable comparison to televisions Star Trek from the same period. And for fans of Lost In Space, the comparison was always unwelcome: nearly everyone used to say Star Trek was high-minded and serious, closer to real scifi, while Lost In Space was viewed nearly universally as patently silly space opera. Two things have happened in the inetervening years to redeem the series rep to an unforeseeable degree. For one, Star Wars has undoubtedly lent a kind of legitimacy to the entire space opera branch of scifi (or scifi entertainment and film at any rate). I know this development upsets diehard scifi purists, but it can't really be denied. Ask most people what scifi is, and they'll candidly offer "Star Wars, of course." Secondly, the Star Trek episodes, so long held as the Holy Grail and template of all serious scifi television, have attained an edge of camp that makes them at least borderline unwatchable for a lot of people. For these people --and I will confess to being one of them-- the presumed "seriousness" or "high-mindedness" of the series actually works against it, heightening the camp feeling of the old show. Lost In Space does have some funny/incongruous scenes, as in the unaired pilot when Maureen is seen taking laundry out of an atomic washing machine and carrying it to the atomic dryer in a metallic clothes basket. But the series was about a family trying to maintain a normal domestic picture, in the depths of space. Are such scenes really any funnier or more improbable than those of the Enterprise's sleek-haired captain romancing a scantily clad babe in every port in the Galaxy, and dumping her once she doesn't fit in with his plan, week after week? I leave that to you. But for me, Lost In Space feels better and better, like more of an achievement, given the reqirements of commercial television of the time. Perhaps the fact that it has been an underdog (however fondly remembered) for such a long time makes us willing to look at it a little more generously than ever before. Reappraisal time is at hand.

Summary: Serious Nostalgia
Review: It's so great to see these again after all these years. Watching them, I feel as if I've been sent back in time (which is ironic because this 1965 season takes place in 1997).
The second episode in my set has a vertical line on the far right throughout most of the episode. Does anyone else have that?

Summary: ABSOLUTELY THE BEST SCI-FI SERIES EVER!!
Review: I could never get into Star Trek. Lost in Space however gave me something with which to indentify. A 'real family' with 'real emotions' struggling for survival. Add the advanced technology of the "Robot" and the ever quinessential villain, "Dr. Smith" and one has the best sci-fi series ever produced for television. True, season one, as has been mentioned countless times in every review to the point of being redundant, is the best of the three seasons. But for those of us who love LIS, seasons two and three are hugely palatable as well. The DVD has great sound quality and all the episodes seem to be intact. The only problem I found is that some of the lighting in the 'dark' scenes or 'nighttime' scenes is almost too dark to the point of the scene being undistinguishable. This however, is a minor flaw I can live with. We have long awaited the release of the entire season of a great classic series instead of 'trash' like 'Sex in the City", "The Simpsons", "Will and Grace"....bah!!! LIS is a quality family show and each episode from season one has memorable scenes which bring a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat. One such scene occurs in "The Hungry Sea" episode after the family weathers a violent storm at sea. They reach dry land again and the entire family bows down with Professor Robinson holding the bible and they all say a prayer of thanksgiving for their safe delivery. That's the kind of show it is!!!!!! For parents who are looking for good, quality television with which to raise their children today...look no further than this one!! The only thing I can say is...hurry up and get season two and three out there!!

Summary: Childhood excitement and wonder...
Review: I had never heard that the Pilot, NO PLACE TO HIDE, had been filmed in color-if true, this rescued version must have been for broadcast only?
It would make sense, as ALLEN had filmed the Pilot of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA in color, so that certain shots could be used and reused IF the show later became color (it did in season 2, as did LIS)
It is too bad that FOX didnt have enough faith in sales of this set to do a state of the art remaster from the 35mm prints-thought the discs look good, they dont look GREAT-and one episode-THE DERELICT is way too dark.
The set also could have used a booklet with detailed history-another oversight-and finally, the last disc could have been a DVD 8 to include outakes and other behind the scenes stuff, as was found on LOST IN SPACE FOREVER. So I will give this set a 4.5 out of 5 stars. All in all, I am still happy to have the set, from Costco @ $49...

Summary: You'll be "Lost In Space" without this box set!
Review: Here you will find a cross between two cool Sixites sci-fi series. Lost In Space is sort of a combintion of the original Star Trek and the original Batman, there's just the right mix of comedy and drama.
And what more could a viewer ask for than having the former Zorro and the former Timmy's Mom running around in tinfoil space suits? Okay, add a handsome spaceship pilot, three lovable kids, a comical villain, and a robot that looks like a washing machine.
Oh, and let's not forget an alien monkey with big ears named Debbie.
All this adds up to great fun and old-fashioned cliffhanger excitement in each episode. For the most part, the picture quality is sharp and clear and the sound is excellent. It's just too bad that the first season was shot in black and white and not out-of-this-world bright Sixties color like Star Trek and Batman. But never fear, the other two seasons were in color and will probably be coming to your TV screen in the near future.
Buy this collection and you won't be disappointed. It will be fun for the whole family.

Summary: "Oh,the pain....the pain..."
Review: I've been waiting a long time for this release on dvd.I LOVE this show and have watched it since I was very young. The other reviewers,here, have given excellent reviews for "Lost In Space" discussing what fun the series was (is)and I agree with them.The biggest appeal that the series has for me is the sense of unity within the Robinson family and the love and respect they shared for one another....something rare in today's television programming featuring more than dysfunctional families. This first season was LIS at it's best! There were many wonderful episodes from this season,most of which have already been mentioned here but a few of my other favorites are(in no particular order): The Attack of the Monster Plants(a surprisingly creepy and chilling episode.) the eerie "Ghost In Space" "The Oasis" which depicts our Space Family's struggle to survive a drought. "Island In the Sky" which features a spectacular and convincing crash landing of the "Jupiter 2" on the planet our space family is stranded on for the entire 1st season. I could go on and on but these are only a few of my faves.Yes,there were scientific inaccuracies through-out this season and even more in the following 2 seasons but who cares? It was 1965 and not a whole lot was known about outer space by NASA,let alone Hollywood television producers.This season started out with attempts at science fiction and did an entertaining job of it.The remaining 2 seasons moved to science fantasy which was fine too.I watch tv for escape not realism.Watch this series for the sheer entertainment and fun it offers.It is something for all ages of the family to watch together. OK,I have given my review of the series itself...now on to the review of the technical details of the dvd edition itself.
Packaging:Nice slipcover case with bright colors and a great picture of the Robinsons on a neat "starry space" background.However upon removing the individual cases from the slipcase,I thought I had received a bunch of bootleg copies! The individual cases are kind of colorless with a grainy blown up photo of a character from the series that look like they were printed with an inkjet printer! Couldn't Fox have at least continued the nice blue starry background on the individual cases.Did they run out of ink cartridges?
The sound/audio: OK for mono sound.There's no point to creating stereo sound for a series that was originally released in Mono sound. Picture/Video: Overall,I found the video transfer to be very disappointing as it is not as clear as it should be.I own the complete series (which was released on vhs a few years ago),and the video is about equal to those vhs tapes.C'mon Fox these are DVDS...couldn't you have done a better job? After viewing about half of these episodes and finding the picture quality less than acceptable,I did a bit of research on this release.It seems that when these episodes were released on vhs a few years ago,a master 1 inch video tape was made from the original 35mm prints.This 1 inch master video tape was then used to create the vhs releases. Instead of digitally mastering this dvd set from the original 35mm prints,the dvds were created from the SAME 1 inch master video tape that was used for the vhs sets.Guess what,Fox?...it shows. Let's hope that on the 2nd and 3rd season releases from this series, Fox takes the time and money to do it correctly.If I had wanted "vhs"quality I would watch my tapes and I wouldn't have bothered to spend my money on this shoddy and hastily manufactured product. Rating:I give the series "Lost In Space" itself 5 stars as the series is sacred.However,with the technical issues regarding video quality,I can only rate this particular dvd product with 3 stars.This classic tv series deserves the same care and attention in it's transfer to dvd as any other.I'm sure that all diehard LIS fans would agree with me.
