Summary: The 30-something singles' psyche revealed?
Review: As a straight single male who confesses to being baffled by most women's personalities, I found this first series was full of intrigue and some surprises.

It would seem that single women, as well as men, lead lives of (sometimes) quiet desparation. Here you have 4 women, 3 of which constantly claim to be looking hard for "Mr. Right" for the fulfillment of marriage. The 4th's closet tendencies in this direction come to light as well.

So, what are some of the earth shaking problems several of the oft-cited otherwise PERFECT men have (which make them unacceptable husband material)? One twenty-something just isn't quite smooth and sophisticated enough - somewhat puppy-like socially. Another (how shocking) would like to have his partner engage in oral sex with him. A third commits the unpardonable sin of being "too small" - and sadly the solution his very experienced partner comes up with is crying instead of talking to him about it. And finally, the dreaded failure to commit to lifelong plans soon enough, despite being completely candid about where he stands and some of the negative life-experiences he's had to explain his position.

Sorry girls, but if this is even a vague hint of the truth, it's little wonder it's so hard to find "true love" these days. There are no "perfect" men (or women) of course.

There are certainly epiphanies one can understand and relate to. The classic stereotype of the 30-something woman waking up after a sleepover sex-date in the CLASSIC 20-something bachelor's apartment, and morning drivel-macho-rant he spouts was a riot, and right-on for far too many of my former friends in bygone years, for example. The too-sad pregneant suburbia mom-to-be that we learn how much she HATES her post-single-wild life, despite all her bluster to the contrary to her new-mom peers the day before sounded like it had a ring of truth.

Looking forward to the second season DVD release (I never watch HBO). I hope the characters and the subjects continue to develop, and explore a wider variety of themes.

Summary: The Best
Review: This is one of the best DVD's we have! I love both discs, but I think that the second one is better than the first. With episodes like "The Drought", "The Baby Shower"(Char:She stole my baby name Sam: You B----), and "the Tortise and the Hare" (It's Pink for girls!)should bring you delight. Perfect if you need a good laugh on a bad day. Along with The Simpsons, my favorite TV show.

Summary: Sophisticated & Fun: Loved It!
Review: This must have been great Cable-TV when it was on HBO, to which we don't subscribe. It's even better in the DVD version. High quality resolution AND surround sound via DVD make this a must-see for intelligent, sophisticated viewers who don't find much to satisfy on standard network TV.

In fact, if even movies were this good, we'd be going all the time! The writing is superb, as is the acting, sets and fast-paced story line. If you've ever lived, as a single, in a large urban city and were remotely involved in the 'dating game', then you'll be able to relate to the characters. While mostly women, there are enough male characters for both sexes to connect with the 'dating game' and its ups and downs-- and the characters' ambitions, loves, fears and shared joys. Now I know why there has been so much "buzz" about this series... It's a totally sexy, hip romp! (Note: this is defintely not something that "Christian Coalition" types will admit to liking....!)

Summary: I'm a straight male, but I still love this show!
Review: First off, let me say that my review of 4 stars refers not to the quality of the show, but the dvd transfer quality. To be honest, they did a very poor job of putting this on DVD. It is grainy and washed out, and looks worse than watching it on an old TV set. That out of the way, the show itself is GREAT. Personally, I like the second season the best, but this first season provides the groundwork for the lives of 4 single, smart, sexy, and strange women living in New York City. At times touching, at times hilarious, and always a little on the blue side, this show exposes the bizarre nature of relationships between people of both genders, and the sometimes loving, sometimes cruel things that people can do. I highly recommend it to everyone, and especially you other single guys who wonder just what the hell it is that women think sometimes! This will open your eyes.

Summary: Great DVD but Quality sucks
Review: I really liked this DVD. It was good to see how Mr. Big first met Carrey and view all the episodes that I missed. It also has a nice text screen that allows you to read about the episode before watching, that way you can tell which episode your going to see. However, I must say that the video quality of some of the episodes (especially the first one) is very grainy and basically sucks. The colors are bland and I was very disappointed. That being said, I still think this DVD is a must have...Just dont expect much in the "video-quality" department.

Summary: great content, poor quality
Review: If you're bothering to read this, you probably know what an amazing show this is. So I've just got one tiny warning for you -- the video quality is very grainy, very poor. I'm guessing that HBO did this deliberately so as not to ruin the potential future value of re-runs (you'll note that very few TV series are available on VHS/DVD for this reason). Or maybe it's just because we're used to movies transfered to DVD, not TV shows. Either way, these discs are a bargain -- just don't use them to show off your new DVD player.

Summary: Own It, Watch It and Enjoy this Sex in the City Marathon
Review: For anyone who watches this show religiously, this is a godsend. Not only can you watch the awesome episodes over and over again, but you get to own the entire season on high quality DVD. This original HBO series airs during the summer with reruns and repeat broadcasts on the expanded HBO channels. But even with all these opportunities to watch the episodes, let's face it, we've all missed a show or two. Well, ta-da! Here it is. So, own this, watch it and enjoy...

Summary: Never enough Sex In The City
Review: Its camp! Its funny! Its fabulous! I wish I could live my life like these women. Wait a minute...I'm a gay man. Its also all about sex and shoes. I guess I am one of them!

Summary: If you missed it the first time, this is your chance
Review: Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows, but I didn't get HBO until the whole first season was over. Thanks to this collection, I get to see the whole season whenever I want- without having to wait a week between episodes. If you are a fan of Sex and the City, then there's no question that it is worth it to buy/rent this collection of the first 12 episodes-- you get to see the ones you missed (or see your favorites again), whichever one you want, whenever you want. If you love the show, then just go ahead and get the whole thing on DVD- it's worth it.

Summary: If only network TV were this interesting
Review: Sex in the City is a real eye opener. You really get a sense of just how generic and bland network TV is when you watch these made-for-HBO shows.

This series tells the tale of four career-driven Manhattan women and their relationship and sexual experiences. The stories are all Manhattan-centric and revolve around predominantly self-centered, wealthy, egocentric people, but despite all that they have a lot of truth to tell about how people are today. Their motives, their fears, hopes and desires.

Sarah Jessica Parker plays a columnist who writes articles on the sexual trends and obsessions of her fellow New Yorkers. Each episode revolves around her weekly column.

I've never been a big Parker fan, but this show has definitely made me re-evaluate her as an actress. Great viewing with great humor and very true-to-life characters.
