Summary: Cunning indeed.
Review: This 5-DVD set is absolutely essential for the rabid Black Adder fan. The print is clear, the sound good. The extras, like informative historical blurbs with still pictures (narrated by Tony Robinson) are no big whoop, but only someone who's as thick as a whale omelet would need them anyway. This collection makes me as happy as a Frenchman who's just invented a pair of self-removing trousers.

Summary: One of the best comedies of all time!!
Review: I purchased the first 3 series of Blackadder on DVD in the UK, each one without any extras at all. I then sold them when I realised how much better they were over in the USA. You get everything, including Blackadder Back And Forth - the 1999 special, Blackadders Christmas Carol and even the rarely seen Comic Relief special, The Cavalier Years.
In short, if you live in the UK and are reading this review, then DO NOT BUY THE DVD'S FROM OUR HOMELAND. Even though they are English programmes and have English actors in them, the UK DVD production is never any match for the American version.
Blackadder is hilarious. Even the 1st series has it's good moments. If you are a fan, I urge you to buy this set, you won't find it better produced anywhere else

Summary: Timeless humor from the British iles reaches the new world
Review: Finally Black Adder lands in the USA...!
In a world where there seems to be only one sane man. "Black Adder". He plots, duels, outwitts and plans his moves. Black Adder wants power, his territory is behind the scenes of Englands nobles and fortunate.
Pay special attention to Mirranda Richardson in BA II and Stephen Fry in BA III. Both delightfull.
a 5 star recommendation for those in love with British humor!

Summary: A superb collection of one of the funniest shows ever!
Review: Conceive of a cunning plan to purchase this set of DVDs. Blackadder ranks as some of the funniest television, British or otherwise, ever produced. Even the so-called "lousy" first season is still absolutely hysterical.

This set is also loaded with supplements, including historical context, interviews, and production diaries. Oh, and yes, the Christmas Carol is definitely included.

This is a no-brainer and one of the best box sets ever released. GET THIS DVD SET!!!!

Summary: history has a cunning plan....
Review: the wry humor and ingenious comic abilities of rowan atkinson coupled with the most incredible band of british talent since the pythons make this the most enjoyable history lesson you can get your hands on.(even if it is inaccurate) if you've never heard of blackadder then you've missed out in a big way and your life up til now has been a waste. i'm sorry to be the one to tell you. if you've ever dreamed of saying exactly what's on your mind but found your mettle lacking, let blackadder do it for you with his acidic similes and scathing put downs. come to the dark side; join the world of blackadder.

Summary: If there is a god of comedy, Rowan is the Messiah!
Review: The writing is excellent, the actors superb, and the lead is a big nosed rubber faced ..., as stated by his lovable side kick Baldrick. Most Americans are only familiar with "Mr. Bean", another great series, but if you really want to see the range of Atkinson's genius than this collection is it. You get it all in this set, even the rarely seen "Black Adder: Christmas Carol" and "The Cavalier Years". The supporting cast is excellent; Fry, Laurie, and Richardson are all brilliant comics and established actors. This along with the incredible costume and scenery makes this set a must for any self respecting, Britcom obsessed American.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An essential part of any DVD library
Review: I recommend this DVD set to any fans of great comedy. Rowan Atkinson is a genius and the writing is superb. Hugh Laurie is fantastic both as Prince George and Lt. George. The extras include cast biographies, special episodes and historical footnotes. I especially liked the historical footnotes, because it brings a great depth to the episodes and narrated by that cunning man, Baldrick.

Summary: Stars, script, and the best insults east of the pond.
Review: I wanted to use the word vulgar, but that doesn't really fit this collection of some of the best writing, story telling and outright fun that has ever come out of the UK. Granted it wouldn't fit in a 1950 ice cream social, but compared to some of the 'creative output' I have seen on broadcast TV, this is tame, and yet extremely entertaining. A subtle piece of work that will have you watching again to catch what you missed while you were laughing!

My 3 sons and I spent a summer vacation trip that included traveling across Kansas on I-70, a rather uneventful stretch of the Great American Pavement. To pass the time I put in an audio cassette of the 4th series, Black Adder Goes Forth. The boys wouldn't let me take it out. It was the only thing we listened to the entire trip. These guys are 8, 11 & 13!

Anyway, after the trip I had to get onto Amazon.com to order the complete set. I was a big fan the first time it made it to America on PBS, and I still am. It is fun to find a gem from your past that you can enjoy with your next generation.
