Summary: "The darker side of Star Trek¿.
Review: TNG, Voyager, Enterprise are all hype when compared to Star Trek: DS9.
Sure it started slow (all Star Trek series are mired by a lack self identity), but when it did find itself, DS9 truly set itself apart from the other series. Through gritty story telling, DS9 was able to illustrate the true nature of man, which is not always virtuous and upright, but sometimes brooding and frustrated. Not always honorable, sometimes substituting morality for results. Not always triumphant, but always vigilant and enduring.I've often heard DS9 referred to as the "darker side of Star Trek". I take that to mean the series was deeper than the others, showing a realistic view of racism, war, and politics.
Not to mention some of the most fantastic special effects and Kick-A*# battle sequences ever put to the small screen (they even put Star Wars to shame), routinely featuring all-out interstellar wars vs. The Klingons, The Cardassians and The Dominion. When you sat down to watch DS9 you knew you were going to be entertained. I genuinely miss DS9 from my weekly routine and I am disappointment that Paramount has not found a way to bring my favorite series into the theater.
But owning the full series will be a consultation. P.S.

Summary: Deep Space Nine -- Star Trek at its BEST!!!
Review: I can't get enough Star Trek. We have been able to get reruns of all of the Star Treks on TV except--Deep Space Nine. I have not seen it since the last season ended....... Did you know that Deep Space Nine is the link between Next Generation and Voyager?? Yes, besides Chief O'Brien, and later, Worf, being assigned to DS9, Enterprise visits DS9 in the first episode, and Voyager was at DS9 when they were called upon to follow a Maquis ship into the Badlands (when both ships ended up in the delta quadrant)....... I can't wait till it is out!!! Christmas is coming a little late this year.

Summary: Well Done Paramount (...but don't forget the rest of us!!)
Review: While I have watched and enjoyed all of the Star Trek series, Deep Space Nine is undoubtedly the best Star Trek series so far. I am SO pleased that it to be released on DVD and continuously monitor Amazon.co.uk on this side of the Atlantic, hoping to see a release date. Paramount - take note please!! When one thinks of DS9, character depth and development, and amazing storyline arcs are what make it a classy show. And what an opening theme - Dennis McCarthy has certainly set the standard which NOBODY has come close to surpassing! I cannot wait for a Deep Space Nine revival in my home - hopefully in the not-too-distant future.

Summary: The Best of any ofthe series
Review: I have watched all three of the series, and I do believe this one held my interest better than any of them. It was more realistic and believeable. The series had a continous stroy plot from beginning to end. It had the best final episode of the three. It left me with a feeling of loss that it was over. I was hoping that That it would go on with episodes that let people know where all the players eventually went and what they were doing. I think that the last part of the last episode left a feeling of some kind of later re-invilvement.

Summary: It follows a true storyline
Review: You need to watch the first season of DS9 in order to fully understand the ending of the show. Unlike Babylon 5 which is an incomplete work at best, DS9 follows it's storyline and look to have a coherent line of events. It is a living work that gets better over time and brings in the darker side of the federation. Someone just loaned me season 5 of TNG and all but 5 episodes bored me, by season 5 of DS9 it was cranking every week. BOTTOM LINE:
If you want a series where the problems are solved in 45-90 minutes then pick up a copy of TNG. However if you want to see the progression of character over a long period of time and a long term story line pick DS9. With DS9 there are no MR. Data's and no Seven of nine's to save the day in the last 5 minutes. In DS9 they work the whole way thru and sometimes (just like in life) they don't find the answers or they will not be revealed for 6 or so episodes. You will miss out if you miss the first show.

Summary: The Best Star Trek Show
Review: I am so excited that DS9 is being released on dvd. I have been looking forward to this ever since they started releasing TNG. I have to agree with everyone else who believe DS9 is the best of the Treks. The character development, acting, and stories beat any other Trek easily. Like most first seasons, this one is not as good as subsequent seasons, but that's understandable and forgivable. Yet, the brilliantly written and acted episode "Duet" gave a foretaste of the excellence to come. One of the best things about DS9 is how the characters develop over the seasons. Most notable is the relationship between Miles O'Brien and Dr. Bashir which grows from that of dislike to best friends. But all of the characters were wonderfully portrayed and developed. My favorite recurring characters were Garak the spy/tailor and Vic Fontaine (you won't see Vic in the first season). Buy this dvd to see the finest Trek ever produced.

Summary: True Space Opera!!
Review: I can't understand why some TNG purists trash DS9. The multiseason arced storylines are brilliant, and much better than anything that TNG ever attempted. One would hope that "Enterprise" will eventually be capable of the same. The Dominion War arc was brilliant, consisting of mulitple mini-arcs. Trek historical references were also good, with the Tribble episode, and my personal favorite, the Alternate Universe (Spock with a beard) episodes.

Summary: The best written of all the Trek Series.
Review: Of all of them I wish that this series would return to TV. There are too many good characters that got left behind. I hope after Enterprise concludes with Scott Backula ... DS9 comes back to TV. The Enterprise saga could warp ahead to the current Trek timeline if fans demanded it. I long for the days of seeing DS9 and NG each week. They should have played them back to back and it would have gotten better ratings. I am very surprised they didn't cross over the two shows with both casts meeting together. What can I say without repeating the other reviewers? Buy this one. You can see the episodes again and again. Just like the original series and still want more. There are still plenty of stories left to tell about DS9 and here's one more fan who wishes they'd come back. On an added note the extras were real sparse. One I thought could have been better was the one with the props. The mini film takes you into a basement like room where all the DS9 props are stored. It must have been shot on a shoestring budget. There was no music or anything to make it appear special. The interview with Nana Visitor looked like it was taken from one of those entertainment programs like ET. The most recent interview for the DVD was very brief. How about director commentary for each episode. The least they could have done was to get some of the actors to do a commentary on a couple of episodes. J.M.S. did some with the first season of B5. I am very surprised the DS9 set had none. With those faults it's still something I wanted to purchase. However I hope the guys at Paramount are more creative on the next few season box sets.

Summary: A RARE THING IN STAR TREK: CHARACTERS THAT EVOLVE
Review: As with all shows, the first season takes a while to find its feet. DS9 was no exception, but even in the early days you can see flashes of strong writing and powerful acting that would grace the show in its later seasons. DUET especially is one of the best TREK episodes ever, in all its incarnations. The subject of a Cardassian war criminal coming face to face with Kira is the kind of moral play DS9 did very well. The most amazing thing about DS9 though, is that it is the only TREK show to allow the main characters to grow and evolve like normal people.... Any attempts of shaking up the status quo (YEAR OF HELL or MEMORIAL) are hastily erased with the everhandy reset button. Thankfully, DS9 saw little of that.
I would also like to respectfully ("BIG POINT")point out ... The Dominion was mentioned in INSURRECTION, as the So'Na were running ketracel white factories for the Vorta. LIkewise the events of the movies were mentioned in DS9. Theres also an entire shelf of books detailing the Enterprise E involvement in the Dominion War. Also as a fellow BABYLON 5 fan: "Who wants to see a space station where they never go anywhere?" Maybe someone should have mentioned that to JMS?? I also believe that at least DS9 managed to carve out its own part of the galaxy, establishing the Bajoran/Cardassian story that reflected the times, ie former Yugoslavia, in much the same way that TOS had the Klingons as the Russians against the all- American Federation. Introducing the Dominion was the best kickup the backside the Federation ever had. A more inspired idea than VOYAGER once again coming up against the puppy dogs that are the Borg.

Summary: Unique Star Trek
Review: I've seen a review about how bad deep space nine is because it doesn't really move often with most of the story taking place on a space station. I disagree that it shouldn't have been made. Instead i say that this is what Star Trek needed very badly. the original series, the next generation and voyager all have the same similar theme. A Spaceship bouncing around the place and never really staying in one place to learn about it. Think about it how much can you really learn about a culture in less than a week? yet very few episodes actually show any of the star ships staying very long to get a more complete show of who they visited, and how those people come to be who they are. Deep space nine was a jump from this in that you pretty much stay in one area and get a chance to become closer to a non federation culture the bajorans and to a lesser extent the cardassians. I question why Star trek doesn't have more unique series like this? Instead of having series after series of Federation ships flying around why not have a Romulan series taking place after the Dominion war? Perhaps a star ship which through the series leads to the Romulan people turning on their culture to grow? How about a Klingon series? or an Andorian Series? Something to get deep into the peoples motivations and to show the growth of what happens to them and how they change, like Deep space nine did.
