Summary: Deep Space Nine was the epitomy of Star Trek...
Review: Deep Space Nine is an utter masterpiece. The characters are well thought out and extremely complex, the setting is alien and intriguing, the episodes are well written and thought provoking.
I highly recomend the first season. It includes great episodes liuke Emissary, the best premier a Star Trek series has ever had, Duet, an intriguing and emotional inquiry on Nazi-esque war crimes, and In the Hands of the Prophets, an episode that looks at the debate between religion and secularism while haveing an exciting political story at the very same time.
Season one of Deep Space Nine is just a glimps into what Star Trek is really about, the exploration of the human condition...

Summary: DS9 is the best of trek
Review: In my opinion DS9 became the finest of the Star Trek series to date. I love TOS, and TNG but the fine episodes like Duet, Way of the Warrior, The Vistor set this series apart. Out of a rough beginning came 7 seasons of great story telling and character development. DS9 was the high water mark of Star Trek and Voyager was Star Trek's greatest failure. The first season sets the Cardassian/Bajor, Dukat/Sisko, Prophets storylines in motion. The series and the actors struggled to find themselves but when they did, in season 3, DS9 became very entertaining.

Summary: The Best Trek Series yet!
Review: For those synics out there that never gave DS9 a chance, please do so because it is the finest series of Star Trek ever made. Because the series is set in the same place it meens the crew can not run away from the problems, unlike the starship set series. This makes for some realy interesting and sometimes darker stories. As each season goes by the better it gets. Collect all 7 collectors sets for a realt stunning story. You WILL regret it if you dont.

Summary: DS9 was never meant to be made and is awful
Review: For all of those who love The Next Generation and the Original Series, stay far away from this one !

Gene Roddenberry hated the original idea and never wanted the show to be made. Only after he died, did the studio go ahead and produce the show. Gene thought it was a TERRIBLE ides. Who wants to see a space station where they never go anywhere ?

The characters in this show were also equally below normal trek standards.

This show tirelessly goes on and on about racial stereotypes and race bating and hatred with the Bajorans and Cardassians.

Its like why did the Cardassians even speak ? They were the most evil creatures in the galaxy and a bunch of agrarian farmers who were very spiritual could overthrow a superior military machine by hit and run attacks led by a woman under a 100 pounds and a bunch of dreadful characters.

Also, remember the Ferengi who were in TNG season 1, snarling and wearing bear skins and little fighting machines ? Well, they get replaced by the "Nebbish Woody Allen" character in Quark, whose only sole appeal could be to very small children. Adults find this show boring.

The only saving grace could be the few Klingon shows with Worf and Jadzia and the reunion of Kor, and the other Klingons from the original series in Season 7.

Babylon 5 was MUCH MUCH better done and is a thousand times more interesting and unique.

I promise most viewers that buying 1 season of this show will insure you never buy another. So buy one of the Worf seasons and at least get a few episodes that are worthwhile.

BIG POINT ! The so-called Dominion is NEVER EVER mentioned in ANY OTHER STAR TREK SERIES OR MOVIE. Yet, they become the entire focus of the show.

I can't wait for VOYAGER, which at least gives us a ship and new species that we can enjoy instead of hate and call names. Voyager also reunites us with the Borg, and ties nicely into TNG and the Original series.

Stay away from Deep Space Nine, Gene Roddenberry was right, this one should never have been made.

Summary: The beginning of a great saga.
Review: OK, first why just the 3 stars? Well, let's be honest, the relatively short and first season of DS9 wasn't the best of the show. Why? Well because the writting staff was just being created with some coming over from TNG and whatnot, plus the actors and characters weren't all that developed yet. And of course, neither were the story-lines. But anyway...a 3-star rating leaves room for more accurate ratings later on in later seasons.

Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, what's this show about? Well, to be honest, I'm not totally 100% sure. When DS9 debuted in January 1993, I was in the middle of my college career and I didn't have alot of time to keep up on a weekly series. (And I still don't, 10 years later, for that matter.) And so while trying to follow the series during this first season was hit and miss, but I did manage (I think) to catch most of this first season's episodes. I started to lose interest in it when the second season started. And it's a shame that I did because I hear that the show really started hitting its stride by its 3rd and 4th seasons. However I do know thru reading about the show over the years, that DS9 became one of the best sci-fi shows ever to air on the TV in modern times.

Later on in the series there was a huge war between the Federation/Klingons/Romulans and the Dominion which consisted of the Cardassians, Jem-Hadar, and the Breen? Like I said, I missed the whole Dominion War arc, so I'm not sure. But as I understand that this part was some of the most intense and entertaining sci-fi on at that time, next to Babylon 5 of course.

But anyway, with the OFFICIAL release of all 7 seasons on DVD, just as 2002's release of all 7 seasons of TNG, I will be able to experience this series the way it was meant to be seen. Complete and in order. And from this release, logic suggests that Paramount will release all 7 seasons of VOY in 2004. Yes I know, that series gets hammered by alot of Trek fans, but I'm willing to give it a go just to see its heavy Borg arc, that once again I missed during its first run.

So anyway, if you missed this series on TV as I did. Having it on DVD and in 5.1 Surround will be a treat for years to come. Now if we can just get MGM to release Stargate SG-1 a little quicker.

Summary: The Best Sar Trek Series Is Finally Here!
Review: Well what can I say...this is by far the best series in my opinion. Though it is closely followed by Next Generation. Why is it the best? Because every other Star Trek is about one ship out on its own, DS9 has so much more to it, its whats really going on in the federation. The episodes are much more varyed than any of the other shows because of the influx of characters at the station and on the planet Beyshor. We much more fequentlly visit the other races home worlds' giving us a better insight into how each one really is what it is. And the Dominion Wars produced the best ship battles ever seen, over all the other series and the feature films. The Defiant, perhaps the best ship name since Enterprise. Lets not forget how much of a badass Sisko is.

The only reason I gave a rating of 4 instead of 5 is because the first season in any long running series is a little slow to get going. But once all the main characters are exposed and we get to know them all... the following seasons just rock! And it would have been nice if the Star Trek series were available in Letter-box format.

Summary: Much Anticipated
Review: DS9 is hands down the best Star Trek Series of all time. It is incredible that the quality of Voyager followed AFTER DS9. The stagnant generic characters of Voyager are completely opposite to the beautiful character developement of Deep Space 9. I am counting the days until I receive this DVD set. I recommend this purchase to any who even remotely enjoy Star Trek. Each season is better than the last!

Summary: By far the best trek!
Review: What can I say about DS9? DS9 was the best star trek series in my humble opinion. The series had symetry: when you saw it in it's totality you could discern a beginning, a middle and an end. That is kind of hard to find in other trek series. In other trek series its all about space missions and there is less continuity in the series as a whole. I'm not saying there bad their just on the second tier compared to DS9. DS9 was open to story arcs that other trek series didn't touch: politics, war, and religion. How different peoples build trust and survive together. Plus its just fun to watch.

Summary: It's about time!
Review: It's about time this show came out on DVD. And I'm so glad it is. I origanlly got into Star Trek by TNG, but I fell in LOVE with DS9. The show is much darker and much more realistic then some of the other ST shows.
One thing that I always liked about DS9 was that it wasn't JUST the "three main characters" that were allowed to shine. Though Mr. Brooks was clearly the star of the show, the supporting ensemble cast was first rate. And it was the only ST show that I know of in which the supporting actors like Andrew Robinson (Garak), Aron Eisenber (Nog), and Max Grodenchik (Rom), were equally flushed out.
Anyone who puts this show down because it's not like the other ST shows, or puts it down because it's too much like Babylon 5, is missing a great show, IMHO. It's a show that should be treasured for it's own uniqueness, not put on a shelf because it dared to go against the status quo.
