Summary: IT JUST DIDNT LAST LONG ENOUGH...
Review: MySoCalledLife was short lived but still one of the better shows on television. Claire Danes did a fine job acting as the young Angela Chase, an ever-changing teenager trying to discover herself and figure out her so-called life. Many of the topics discussed in MSCL were real to life. The show was realistic, unlike some where the endings are always perfect and happy. The creators did an excellent job re-creating high school. There's a reason why Claire Danes won an emmy for best actress in a drama! This show was amazing. It is only a brief series, lasting only nineteen episodes, and it is about time that the entire series was released on DVD. It really is great reliving MSCL!! What a shame that it didnt last longer because you will yearn for more Angela and her friends.
I dont usually write reviews, yet it seemed almost necessary for me to write one for this because I havent met a person to this day who doesnt like the show and it would be great if more people get to enjoy it.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I'm not going to review the original series; the series was great. I was very disappointed with this DVD release. The picture quality is not what I have come to expect from DVD. It looks like digital cable. Possibly it has been overcompressed to fit four episodes on each DVD disc; I'd rather have more discs. It is poor. The most annoying thing is the soundtrack mixing. If you play it loud enough to hear the dialog, the background music is overbearing. If you set the volume so the background music level is comfortable, then the music drowns out the dialog so you can't understand what is being said. Much more care should have been taken in transfering the greatest TV show of all time to DVD. The original series gets 5 stars, but this DVD release only gets 3.

Summary: Heaven in a Box
Review: Well, I finally got my hands on the box set and I was sooo happy! I was also relieved because I dont have a multi-region DVD player, but it still works. Its not only for the US/Canada. But anyhow... It was *so good* going back and visiting Angela, Rayanne, Rickie, Brian, etc... *heaven*

Summary: Looking Back
Review: Well, all I can say is that watching this show on DVD was even better than when I first saw it on TV. I don't think that I actually appreciated the shows sincerity on issues that every young person has to deal with in high school or in everyday life. It took me two days to finish watching each episode and oh my I felt like I was fifteen again! To remember what my first love felt like, the pain and agony of losing friends, the incredible battle between loving and hating your parents, and the neverending search for your true self. This shows has all that and more. I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who has or is going through adolescence. It's a show that was ahead of its time but that has become a classic in the eyes of those who were privileged to see it. The only problem is you are left wanting more... to find out what happens....but in some way you can figure it out on your own. I mean we were all there once ourselves. All I can finish with is...WATCH IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!!

Summary: The wait is over!
Review: I'm 20 now, so I was only about 12 when "My So-Called Life" originally aired. I didn't watch it during its first, and only season, but I stumbled upon repeat episodes on MTV when I was in high school and fell in love with this awesome show. MTV would hold MSCL marathons, and I'd spend all night watching Angela, Rayanne, Rickie, and the rest of the gang. Even though the grunge fad was dead by the time I was in high school, everything else in MSCL was amazingly applicable to my life.
Every girl at some point has a crush on a guy like Jordan Catalano-- the cool, rebellious hottie you can't help but drool over. Every guy at some point pines for someone like Angela Chase-- someone you grew up with and now find yourself irresistably drawn to. All of us struggle with popularity-- either we're noticed for the wrong things or else not noticed at all. The MSCL gang dealt with friendships, parents, school, drugs, sex, and growing up in a hilarious way without being preachy or phony.
People who've never seen this show may bash it as another melodramatic teen series like "Dawson's Creek," "Party of Five," or "Beverly Hills 90210," but it's in a league of its own. Yes, things can be dysfunctional at times, but MSCL wasn't plagued with an endless series of ridiculous mishaps ala Po5 and BH90210. Yes, the actors and actresses make many witty observations about life, but they talk as teens of the time did, complete with lots of words such as "like" and "um;" they don't use tirades of five-syllable words and hyper-analyze everything to an extent that would make Rene Descartes nauseous as the "Dawson's Creek" cast members do. This is the most realistic teen show I've ever come across; I really think everyone can personally identify with one of the characters and recognize their friends in the others.
As far as the DVD set goes, it's a great set. The pilot episode is blurry at the beginning, however, which gave me a headache. The fuzziness cleared up in about half an hour though, and the rest of the episodes are crystal clear; perhaps it's just my copy of the first DVD though. The subtitles of the DVDs are wonderful, and the menus are very attractive as well. I just wish that there were some extras on the DVDs! It would have been cool to see interviews with Claire Danes, Jared Leto, et al, or maybe some of the writers' ideas for the second season that never was. Finally, a last quibble I have with this set is that, on certain DVD players, the subtitles come on automatically when you pop in the DVD and play the episodes. This happened with my player upstairs, but not with the player I have downstairs. It's not a *huge* deal, but it's one of those minor inconveniences I feel the need to gripe about. This set is well worth the price and is a must-watch show for youth of all decades.

Summary: Wow!
Review: My So-Called Life is *by far* the best teen-drama ever made.
Its characters are real people who we get to know on a level that is much more profound than any other teen related show.
I loved this show in high school when it first aired, and I still love it now in my mid twenties. This is a good show for high school ages through adulthood.
So stop reading these pages upon pages of positive reviews and watch it!

Summary: I am confused !!
Review: I really liked the DVD, it brought back so many memories, it first aired when I was soph in high school. So when I watched it for the first time I felt I was going through similar things like angela. When I watched the episodes for the second time it took me back to those days. I have a quick questions though, I never saw the last few episodes so over the years I asked people whatever happened at the end of the show and they said brian and angela got together. There was so much hanging and lefted to be resolved on the last epiosode. Could someone fill me in !!!

Summary: Thank goodness for DVDs!
Review: Probably my favorite thing about DVDs is the chance to collect seasons of most of my favorite TV shows. My So-Called Life is just one of those shows that I never thought would make it to the shiny silver discs, what with all of the rights problems that surrounded it. Am I ever glad it did. I was in 7th grade when the show first aired, so I didn't really appreciate it, even though I remember watching the pilot when it premiered. Subsequent viewings on MTV, however, made me realize how great it is. It's really the little things about the show that make it stand out. The language of the characters is spot-on, exactly how I talked in high school with 'like' and 'or whatever' peppering many sentences. The characters don't have a brand new outfit every episode. Angela has *one* jacket and wears the same sweaters, skirts, dresses, and pants like normal people do. I just like that. I really don't have a favorite episode, all of them are very good. I especially like the voice-overs done by various characters (mostly Angela, of course). The only complaint I have is the video quality of the eps. The first disc is particularly bad, noticeable towards the end of the episode 'Guns and Gossip.' Jordan's face gets very bright and there is a lot of grain.

Summary: A Realistic View of High School
Review: I am so glad I never watched this show when it was first on, because I would have been outraged when it was cancelled. Instead, I caught the marathon on MTV - I watched every episode, back-to-back, and enjoyed every second of every episode. A couple of years later, I got into watching Dawson's Creek and was highly amused by how every single high school character talked like a college scholar. I thought that it was refreshing. But now, looking back at My So-Called Life, I realize that it was so much better than any teen drama today. Angela Chase (wonderfully portrayed by Claire Danes) is like a lot of girls in high school: shy, insecure, and in love with the cutest (and baddest) boy in school. She never used big words, she never tried to be clever or cute. In other words, she is the realistic version of a high school student. She had a wild and crazy best friend, a geeky boy across the street who loved her, caring parents, a sometimes-annoying younger sister, and ultimately the coolest guy in school as her boyfriend. A lot of people thought the Angela/Jordan relationship was a little far-fetched, asking themselves what he would ever see in a girl like her. I thought the idea of their relationship was wonderful, far-fetched or not: it showed young women that they don't have to be easy and dress provocatively to get guys to notice them.

To this day, I'm still amazed that this show was so short-lived. It dealt with serious issues such as drugs, sex, violence, and it dealt with them realistically. I realize now that My So-Called life was the clever one, not Dawson's Creek. This DVD is a must-have for the many die-hard fans the show still has today. One thing is for sure: the show may have been cancelled, but it will never be forgotten.
