Summary: Become 15 again - and truly feel it
Review: I was 25 years old when My So-Called Life aired and I felt as if I was 15 again as I walked the halls of high school with Angela Chase. There never was a show that exposed the shadowy and tortured feelings of teenage girls and boys as well as this one. My So-Called Life also portrayed how difficult it is for parents let go of their child so that they can make their own choices, however misguided they may seem. Now at 32, I can still watch the school rouge, Jordan Catalano, and feel that rush of inappropriate, inexplicable, high school crush-love for the wrong boy and it is so addictivly delicious. This program has rich characters that you would have wanted to have been friends with, fallen in love with, picked on, defended and even ignored. This is the completed high school experience. Gritty - wonderful - euphoric - sometimes painful - but always real.

Summary: A misunderstanding about the Audio
Review: This is a wonderful tv show and a good but not stunning DVD set.
About the sound/Audio there has been a number of remarks but those people have not confirmed which audio track they are using.
Go to the audio menu and choose the STEREO track NOT the 5:1 and you will find that the dialogue is far better phased. There is one problem though, the disc defaults to the 5:1 so select and confirm the audio choice between each episode.
The picture quality reflects the type of post-production editing systems used at that time.Howard in Manchester UK

Summary: 5 stars before I've even bought it
Review: I am from the Uk and I am eagerly awaiting a Region 2 release of this series. This simple quote from one other review "I am telling you, we had a time. Didn't we? Didn't we have a time?" just took me back to those days when i was 16 (I'm now 22) of watching the show, and hurrying to school the next morning to discuss it. Why why why was it cancelled! Words cannot describe how much i loved this show!

Summary: FINALLY - The Best Show Ever Cancelled After 1 Season on DVD
Review: .. This amazingly crafted show was brilliant. I don't know a single person who wasn't completely in love with it. (Makes you wonder why they canceled it after only one season. I still don't understand it) We all could see ourselves as Angela, Brian, Rayann, Ricky, or Jordan. It covered every emotion and problem that a teenager could face. And, the beautiful thing about this show was that it wasn't limited to "teeny-boppers"....20's and 30 something's loved it too... Now, I don't have to keep watching my dubbed copies from MTV reruns,... and can have them all, to keep forever. This is a fabulous collection for anyone. The only thing I want to caution against is that there are no extras on this DVD... just the shows. But - really --- do you need anything else?

Summary: I have been waiting for this for a loooooong time!
Review: My So-Called Life has been my all time favorite TV show since it first aired on ABC in 1994. Amazing characters, great story lines..I could go on and on. I've been waiting for them to FINALLY release this DVD set,and when they did I was ecstatic! If you loved the show when it first came out, or fell in love with its reruns on MTV back in the mid 90's, I definitely recommend this DVD set. Someone who wrote a previous review asked why this DVD set cost more than other other TV show sets such as Buffy or Felicity, Here's why: This DVD set is the ENTIRE season! The show only made 19 episodes, and was canceled after the first season. So eventhough you're paying more money, you're getting the complete season. Unlike Buffy and Felciity DVD sets that you have to buy the seasons separately, and spend even more money.

Summary: So-Called Perfection
Review: I've finished the first three DVDs, and unfortunately, I've only got two left. This was one of my favorite shows during its brief run on ABC, and I caught each episode again at least once when MTV started running it, but it still amazes me how this show affects me. I'm not a fifteen-year-old girl and I never was, yet I empathize so much with Angela Chase. Every element of this show is pitch perfect. The characters are so complex. All of them do things that are stupid or hurtful or just plain mean, and yet behind it all you get the sense from every one of them that they are stumbling through life trying to do the best they can. They're looking for love, for acceptance, for appreciation, for safety. In other words, they are human, with all the joys and pain that brings. I haven't noticed any problems with the DVDs. On one episode, the sound was a little out of sync, but other than that, I haven't seen any flaws whatsoever. However, I'm not one of those people that have incredible theater-quality stereo systems, so I'm not the best person to answer the criticism I've read in a couple of the other reviews. I have noticed, however, that the volume is loud enough that you can hear it at a reasonable setting. (For some reason, with a lot of DVDs I own, I have to turn the volume up to 40 on my TV to hear it well, while 23 is the right volume for MSCL.) My roommate Susan is watching the series with me (she saw a couple episodes that I "forced" her to watch back when the show was being rerun on MTV, but she's never seen the entire series), and she's been blown away. If you haven't seen this series, may I suggest that you go out and rent the first three episodes on DVD? (I think Blockbuster rents the show.) And if you like the first three episodes, then I'd strongly suggest that you buy the set, because the show only improves over its 19-episode run. Thanks and take care!

Summary: Why so much for so little?
Review: Enough people have talked about what a great show this is. So I won't. What I do want to know is why this set of 19 episodes is significantly more expensive than similar sets (Felicity, Buffy) yet offers very poor quality audio and video and zero bonus features? The show: Five stars.
The DVD quality: Zero stars.

Review: I first read the book but after watching the five volumes I understood it more. I really enjoyed it and I thought it was even better on DVD. I encourage any MSCL fans to buy and enjoy.

Summary: Wow. The absolute best. Absolutely.
Review: My husband bought me the "My So-Called Life" DVD box set for Valentine's Day and I spent the entire weekend re-watching all of it. I was 20 when it was on network TV and I could totally relate to Angela. Now I'm 29, a mother of two and disturbed because I can see things from Patty's point of view now. But at the same time, I still feel much like Angela. Wow, does anyone *ever* feel like they fit in? I hear alot of people complain about the series being canceled and while I would have loved to have seen more of Angela, Rayanne, Rickie and the rest of the gang, I don't think it would have been as good. This way, it's like finding an old diary in a used book store. All you get to know is that one finite portion of that person's life that they chose to put down on paper. Sometimes it's better to wonder. Anyway, this set is great. All I can say is, "I am telling you, we had a time. Didn't we? Didn't we have a time?"

Summary: More than teens' problems
Review: "If everyone did what was in their heart, this world would grind to a halt." This is just one of the choice bits of philosophy within the few episodes of My So Called Life. If you have an ounce of romance in your soul you will love this program. It's more than just the realistically portrayed problems of teenagers and adults. It is about life itself. The excellent writing and the actors manage to make the viewer understand the points of view of each character--even if not sympathizing with the way they do things. My So Called Life was abruptly taken off the air because it was too advanced for commercial television. Yet its format; its style and the way music is intertwined with the stories has been the inspiration of other shows ever since. Watch a few episodes and judge for yourself.
