Rating: Summary: Yup everyone else is right, another long tv episode Review: yah it is just like another tv episode, but hey, when is the last time there was a new tv episode? At least it's something new. but really, who cares what happens to the baku or the sona because we will never hear of them ever again. I wanted to see the romulans or another classical villian. At least it's better than star trek v.
Rating: Summary: Nine Lives is enough for Star Trek Review: Star Trek: Insurrection plays like an overpadded television episode of TNG. The Enterprise and its morally uncompromising crew are off to save an Eden-like world from exploitation by Federation and alien opportunists. It would be nice to see the powers that be take some creative risks and make Insurrection a breakout film. The idea of the crew disobeying Federation policy to champion a cause in which it believes isn't new, but has been pulled off with better results in Trek III and VI. With Insurrection, the closest Patrick Stewart and company came was casting veteran character actor Anthony Zerbe in the role of the chief Federation opportunist (played with restraint and sincerity). Zerbe's "Admiral Dougherty" actually presents a credible case for his actions and his debate with Captain Picard is one of the movie's best (if underrated) scenes. But the powers that be went overboard in several ways, primarily by making everything seemed forced. They had to create a new race of grotesque aliens as the villians. They had to make the entire crew united and unquestioning of Picard. They had to arm everyone with a phaser rifle. They had to have a love affair between already fizzled flames Troi and Riker. Star Trek has lived to see its ninth life with Insurrection. But unless better directors and writers with vision can be found, Insurrection could be the gasp of a once stimulating franchise.
Rating: Summary: I love Star Trek Review: Just be quiet everyone who doesnt like it! The movie was just like a regular episode, so you are saying that teh ST:TNG episodes sucked too. it doesnt and never ever will.
Rating: Summary: Not to great Review: I think it was okay but no where near worth $88. I say the heck with buying it until I can get it preowned for $9.99
Rating: Summary: PARAMOUNT DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO MARKET STAR TREK Review: I just bought the DVD of Star Trek Insurrection. Although technically the move is well done, the scope of the movie is rather small. It plays like an elaborate T.V. episode rather than a monumental movie. I was very disappointed when I saw it in the movie theater when it came out (saw it on opening night, and the theater was empty. That wasn't a good sign at all). After watching it again on DVD I realize the most important thing that is missing from this move. What's missing is any kind of suspense, or danger. We really don;t care what is happening to the Baku or Sona. We just kind of glide along with our heroes until the totally anticlimactic ending. It seems to be a tv episode posing as a movie. Anyway, I still continue to be disappointed in the way these DVDs are put together by Paramount. It's Star Trek! These DVDs should be technical gems. Look at the main menu, how much plainer can you get? Even Godzilla had an incredible set of menus. For the Star Trek DVD we get a static menu, and there really are no special features worth mentioning. Paramount disappoints once again. I think we Star Trek fans deserve more.
Rating: Summary: Above average movie. MUCH better than Star Trek 1 & 5! Review: Very good plot, acting, special effects, and humor. I recommend this movie above MOST movies on DVD now. Not as good as Star Trek 2, 3, 4, & 8, but equal to 6 & 7. A winner nonetheless!
Rating: Summary: 100 min TV Episode? Still a great movie. Review: First of all, I'd like to say that Insurrection was a great movie, but it did lack in real depth and scope. I think the fact that the actors, while talented, did the TV series for seven years has it's affects on the big screen. While the plot was enjoyable it isn't immersive, and as so many have said here, it really does feel like high-budget season finale. Non-Star Trek fans will probably find Insurrection a great movie and a nice additition to their sprouting DVD colletion. For all you avid Star Trek fans out there though, Insurrection might end up not only a dissapointment, but as a general let-down as well. How many years have we waited to see Riker and Diana get back together? Especially after that whole Worf affair? To have the scene where they finially do get together limited to merely a few seconds of screen time, literally, was a true dissapointment. As the characters are affected by the environment, they each experience different things. But while this could have been an excellent way for the audience to get know and *care* about them, it was limited to brief 30 second scenes that left you wondering why it was in the movie at all. Instead they fill the time with phaser fights and skin-stretching sessions. All in all however, Insurrection was a great movie, but still nowhere near as good as a Star Trek movie could be.
Rating: Summary: Exciting but comical Review: I thought the movie was great. Sure, It was on the light side but you needed something like that after First Contact. Frakes did an excellent job directing and I hope he sticks around. The special effects were amazing even though they were not done by Lucasart. I think they focused too much on Picard and Data. They need to develop their other characters such as Troi, Crusher, or LaForge. Ok, so it wasn't as good as first contact but it still was an action-packed film with humor, good villans, and all-around good acting.
Rating: Summary: If you liked Star Trek 5, this movie is for you! Review: Actually, it's a lot better than Star Trek 5, but it still suffers from "Odd Numbered Star Trek Movie Syndrome." For all that, it's one of the better odd numbered ST movies. It has a few cute scenes and a few not-so-cute scenes, and at least represents the first Star Trek DVD I've seen that has some decent extras on it.
Rating: Summary: Weak and Flacid Review: This is definitely one of the weakest of the trek movies. I liked The Final Frontier (#5)better than this. Not enough here of the real Trek stuff that made the universe all that much better. Too bad too because Frakes has really resuscitated the trek movies better than LN ever did. Nimoy was good with #6 and Frakes with Contact. This just doesn't cut it. Oh well, that dasturdly odd number curse of the Trek Movies I'd say.
