Summary: Poor quality conversion
Review: Rather than comment on the plot or story as did most everyone else, let me simply say that the conversion of this film to DVD is about as poor as I've seen. I have this film on VHS as well. The compression artifacts jump out, especially in the scenes on the planet between Patrick Stewart and Malcom McDowell. The image breaks down very badly and is very distracting. It's a shame, and a bit of a mystery since the First Contact DVD is exceptionally sharp and well done. Go figure.

Summary: Star Trek failure.
Review: The idea of Cap.Kirk meeting Cap.Picard was always appealing. The death of Cap.Kirk was something to be told. The 7th Star Trek Motion Picture was the best opportunity to make all that happen, but they ( directors and producers ) spoiled it. The two captains met in a very silly situation, without sufficient acction to keep the attention of the audience,the great Cap.Kirk's death falling down the stairs was an insult to the character; when you see the example of Cap.Sheridan's death on the last episode of Babylon5 you will see what should have been done with Kirk. The only good scene of this movie is the sequence of the destruction of the Entrepise D. The rest of the characters are lost in the middle of the story which is full of incoherences that are not difficult to notice.

Summary: Passing the "Trek" baton
Review: "Generations" is a great movie with a solid story and lots of action. Though flawed, it is a great adventure for Trek fans, at the very least. The opening scenes with Kirk, Scott and Chekov are tense, with the audience rooting for Kirk to take command of the Enterprise (version 'B') one last time. One almost wishes that the original crew (Spock, McCoy, etc.) could have made an appearance and stuck around for most of the film. But, alas, this was really a "Next Generation" film, their first, and they took over for most of the remainder of the picture. The "Next Generation" crew, with a bit less chemistry and more blandness than the original ("classic") bunch, still managed to provide the audience with a crackerjack adventure. The scenes with Kirk and Picard were awkward and made this viewer quite uncomfortable. Shatner's acting in these scenes didn't quite ring true, and somewhat marred the historic meeting between the two famous Captains of the U.S.S. Enterprise. On the other hand, Kirk's death scene was touching, bringing to an end a career which began with "Where No Man Has Gone Before", the Classic Trek pilot that introduced Captain Kirk. "It was fun". PS- The music was sensational, as well.

Summary: Good Star Trek Film (Not the best)
Review: Generations was the first Trek film that i went to see in theater. In the movies the experience was weak because the quality of sound and picture was poor. I'm clad that i watched it on dvd, the picture quality is excellent (5 Stars) , Sound quality is good (4 Stars) in Dolby Digital. It doesn't have as much action than in First Contact but the storyline is good. Why did they steal the warbird explosion from ST6,budget problems????

Review: Great film. My most favourite of all the Trek films. I like the idea of Kirk being in it. The DVD was disappointing tho - no trailers etc., but it still gets a 5-star rating.

Summary: Wonderful film!
Review: Generations was a wonderful transition movie between the TOS and TNG series. It could have been a wee bit better, had it involved more of the other cast and crew of the TOS movies -- such as Spock, Bones and Uhura. Still, Generations has managed to be my favourite film to date. I do agree, that there should have been a LOT of extras on the DVD as they did with the Movie's Soundtrack CD. Perhaps we can await a future re-release with plenty of features to satisfy those of us who want it.

Summary: Generations has its moments
Review: It would be more accurate to rate this film at 3 1/2 stars. The long awaited meeting of the two captains of the Enterprise is weighed down by an overly complicated plot involving a mad scientist (played with scene chewing delight by Malcom McDowell), Data receiving emotions, and Klingon renegades. The charm and charisma of the Next Generation players is not nearly as evident here as in the next two films. On the bright side, Generations has its moments which still make it a very worthwhile and intellegent film. William Shatner steals the show in his last outing as "Captain James T. Kirk", and the interplay between he and Stewart is great. Also, the special effects are top-notch, particularly the crash landing of the Enterprise. Generatiion's greatest strength come from its message: treasure every moment of one's life, because it will never come again. It's worth a look, despite it's structural flaws. Also, these DVD's should be loaded with EXTRAS. There are none here.

Summary: What happened to the extra scenes?????
Review: Wasnt Captain Kirk supposed to be skydiving in this film?? and he told Scotty (Doohan) and Checkov (Koenig) that he didNOTwant to go aboard the the new enterprise?? Why is it that when Picard beams down to Veridan III, his comm badge is on and when he finally gets to the surface his comm badge is not there? When he is in the "Nexus" its on Leonard Nimoy shouldve been in this movie! I was born in the same city as Captain Kirk Montrea'l Canada and we also attended the same college Mcgill University in Montreal; I know this because I was on the same airplane as William Shatner and he told me honestly, Leonard Nimoy and fellow actor Deforest Kelly wouldve done a hell of a job better than Jimmy Doohan and Walter Koenig. So I guess I heard it from the expert himself; William Shatner aka Captain James T Kirk for all who didnt know

Summary: Great movie, with a great plot and great acting.
Review: This was my favorite movie in the Star-Trek series. It had great acting (especially from Dr. Tolian Soren) and a great idea. In my opinion, The Next Generation is better, though I still love the original series very much. This was a genius idea in which the both Captains get to work together. The best movie i've ever seen.

Summary: Thought provoking but underdeveloped themes
Review: In contrast to most other people who have seen this film - I love it! Generations is a particulary dark and depressing film dealing with themes of death and being taken away from loved ones.Let's start with what's bad about it. William Shatner certainly lost it in this film, especially at the end - his final words are a joke. Most of the characters don't get a look in - only really Picard and Data. The good parts of this film come from Malcolm McDowell for playing an excellent Trek villan - miles better than the bad guys in Insurrection. Some of the action/special effects sequences are superb, particulary the crash sequence - turn up the volume! Thematically, it brings up some interesting questions about the Nexus (being inside Joy) but they are not properly explored. As for the DVD itself. There aren't any extras to speak of (although there are rumours of a restored version with extra footage. e.g. Geordi being tortured by Soran and Kirk et all on a planet at the start) The picture quality is excellent - surpassing the laserdisc. It's a very colourful film, not like First Contact and the disc handles it well. The only motion artefacts you'll notice are on Brent Spiner's (Data) wrinkles when we see the emotion chip for the first time. Definition, for example, the mountain range on Veridian 3 is terrific. The Dolby Surround soundtrack is also top notch (although I don't know about Dolby Digital) Although most people prefer First Contact, this film is a lot deeper and relies less on cheap thrills. A very good disc.
