Review: Easily the worst of the six movies, much worse than the first one. Stupid plot, very silly dialogue.It is not true that only die-hard Trek fans can watch this movie. I am such a fan, and I will never watch it again.

Summary: Not quite the worst...
Review: This movie is not quite as bad as The Motion Picture, but doesn't come close to The Wrath of Khan or First Contact. Only real ST fans should watch this. P.S At the end of the movie both Kirk and spock make a stupid mistake. Kirk says "I lost a brother once, I was lucky to get him back"(refering to Spock in ST2 and ST3), but he DID lose his elder brother at the end of the first season of TOS!

Summary: Not Even James Kirk Could Save This Movie. . . .
Review: . . .But is an interesting movie. Sure the plot is almost laughable. But how else could we get to the best Star Trek (The Undiscovered Country). There are definitely flaws in this movie. Such as when Kirk, Spock, and McCoy jet blasted to the top of the Enterprise, which the decks are going in the worng order. But its still Trek fun! The trace of bad special effects are when the klingon ship destroyed "god" with a photon torpedo. And how can you kill god with a photon torpedo? Shatners personality are written all over this film. Evidence of this are the blue painted horses which Shatner has a fond of. Can you picture Kirk on a horse? Scary! But the reason why I give four stars to this movie is the terrific, most underrated score to the film. Jerry Goldsmith has created a masterpiece to the film. I'm glad that the budget of the film wasn't cut from the music. The other reason why I liked this movie is the Enterprise Bridge. Why they changed it in VI is questionable. All in out, this film is absolutely more enjoyabe than The Avengers movie. That film was an embarassment of the film industry.

Summary: Maybe not the worst ST movie, but it's close!
Review: Both this movie and ST:TMP had one or two redeeming moments. The rest was just abysmal. Every one of my friends in the local Star Trek fan club agrees that you have to be a total Trek nut to like this movie, because it is truly awful. There are several excellent Trek movies and episodes available on DVD; invest your money in one of them, not this piece of trash. In case you're not getting the message, let me put it this way: I own every Trek DVD release and would recommend every one as an enjoyable experience - except this one. This one is a waste of money.

Summary: Without a doubt the worst Trek film
Review: I must different with those who said The Motion Picture was the worse. You must watch it in a mindset that it was intended for -- a space opera. The production values of TMP are way ahead of V. TMP was our reintroduction to the Trek characters, and thus spent alot of time on that rather than the "plot". Anyhow, The Trek V DVD is a mess. I agree with the other folks, it was a hurried job with nothing of value added. The movie itself was THE worst Trek movie because it embarrassed Trek fans with the bad sfx, campy dialog, and obvious sacrifice of production values for Shatner's/Nimoy's salaries. I'm a huge Original Trek fan and a supporter of Shatner but this was truly bad. Here's why:
Very few extras were used. The Enterprise felt like it was being run by the main cast and about 5 crewmembers.
Obvious lack of standard Enterprise settings, like engineering and a proper sickbay. Cut due to budget.
Bloopers galore, such as the passing numbers during the turbolift shaft scene. The number keep repeating between intercut scenes and gets up into the 70's, implying that the Enterprise has 70+ levels, which is ridiculous given all the Enterprise information available via Paramount.
The horribly "cheap" Klingon costumes and makeup. The Klingon "bad guy" was at best an understudy wearing the most pathetic Klingon headpiece.
I'll stop here. I've wasted enough precious calories typing this message about a horrible movie. See Star Trek II, III, IV, and VI instead.

Summary: In Defense Of "Star Trek V"........
Review: Roger Ebert was wrong when he said that this is the worst "Star Trek" film-"The Motion Picture" wins for that category-"V" is right above it on my best to worst scale. I've watched this film each year ever since it's theatrical release and have enjoyed it each time, albeit not as much as II-IV, or VI-IX. Sure, the special effects were the worst of any "ST" film and the ending was a copout to something original, but throughout the film there is a great deal of fine acting and interesting chemistry between the characters. I particulary enjoyed the scene in which Sybok confronts Kirk, Spock, and McCoy and debates the merits of what he is doing. If you don't buy this movie for any other reason, you should buy it for that scene alone. Other positive aspects of the film-Jerry Goldsmith performs a beautiful film score which you'll want to hear over and over again. The DVD was of a good quality and I enjoyed seeing theatrical trailers which I haven't see in over 10 years.....still, I only wish that the disc included the 16x9 amamorphic format for the new widescreen TV's. I think that Paramount has gotten the message though. "IV" will be released on DVD next month and is supposed to have this feature.

Review: This movie was not properly thought out.The campfire scene is too long and the special effects are poor for a movie that cost $33 million.Bill Shatner took a lot of flack for this and he deserved every bit of it.
