Summary: A horrible mistake for Willam Shatner pitiful directing
Review: A pitiful rediculous directorial debut of Shatner and if anything he should have learned from Leonard. This pathetic excuse for a Star Trek movie is purely Shatners fult if he would have let Nimoy direct this could have been a great film instead it's a movie that makes no sense and it's awful specal effects because there's no sign of Industreal Light and Magic in stead the specal effects look generric and horridly done, and to add to all of this there is no magic that the Star Trek fans come to expect and the film is so quickly put together that it comes out so lackluster that you feel like your watching a sitcom instead of a movie.

On a baron planet Nemisis 3 in the nutral zone a rouge Vulcan name Zybach is obsessed into finding the answer of God in the universe or in his words Shakaree he seemingly thinks that answer lies in the center of the universe he needs a , starship.Mean while the crew is on shore leave at Yosimite Park Kirk climbs rocks as the crew bumble around to figure out why hes being so stupid. It leads into Spock saving his life and a bad attempt at Row Row Your Boat until in the middle of the night a shuttle awakes them with Uhura telling them that theres an incident on Nemisis 3 , they go back to a virtual pile of junk as there ship is being slowly refited.

They lead an away team down to save prisoners that are being held for control of the enterprise for Zybachs misson. It turns into sabotage when Zybach seemingly turns the crew into prisoners and Spock who seemingly Zybachs half brother must find a way to choose between his freinds and his brother obsessed on his misson he continues his misson with Kirk just watching the movie turns bad to horrible when we finally see the unimpressive specal effects the end is very hard to watch it's just a terrible excuse for a movie nothing was done right and the worst movie in the hole Star Trek movie series pathetic very.

If you want to collect all of them that may be the only reason why you get this DVD but if you can avoid this one at all costs it's just a disgrace.

Summary: Underrated. You.......do not....Understand....!
Review: Yes, I think this one is a little on the underrated side, but only a little. People get turned off by this one when they see that William Shatner wrote, directed, and stared in this one. Will had a very decreasing budget and time problems with this one, which I blame largly for some of this movie's biggest flaws, and those are the some of the corny props, bad sets, and lousy special effects. The other flaws come from weak villians-(the lead villian turns into a goodguy near the end, the other is a run of the mill Klingon) as well as a so-so ending, topped off with endless bad jokes at the begining. These I'm afraid are probably Will's fault. The story is about how a deranged Vulcan named Sybok(Lawerence Luckinbill) plans on hijacking a starship to pursue his quest for the almighty near the center of the universe. Kirk and company have their vacation interrupted and take their new, barely working ENTERPRISE to investigate the matter. Their ship gets taken over by Sybok and he speeds them on his mad quest. Die hard Trekkies will and do find some new, fun facts about some of their favorite characters in this adventure and Shatner does keep the movie going at a fairly brisk pace-(Unbelieveably faster then the 1st movie anyway) and does try to make the film bright, despite a few intense scenes. This film in terms of Trek Movie quality I would put before GENERATIONS and after THE MOTION PICTURE (MOTION PICTURE being THE worst). FINAL FRONTIER is NOT terrific don't get me wrong, but it's not a terrible waste of a Trekkers time, especially if it is their first time seeing it.

Summary: Ugh!
Review: Star Trek goes in search of God and blows him up with a photon torpedo - that's how I describe this show to my friends. I refused to watch ST VI for years because I was so insulted by this movie.

"One God... many faces" "God is in here (puts hand on heart)"

I'd rather have root canal therapy.

Summary: Flawed...But Still Cool and Fun...
Review: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is an imaginative adventure that, of all the "Star Trek" films, really brought me back to the old 60's series. People complain about it's somewhat "out there" plot, it's sub-par visuals, and so forth, but these things all add to the charm and fun of watching "Star Trek". OK...so it has really bad continuity flaws and some overboard humor. It's just a movie...and a pretty good one if you just get over it!

When I first saw the film in 1989, it was my favorite Trek movie. Now that I'm older, I can see that it IS flawed, but the fun and twisty plot, the banter between the characters, the action, and the musical score are all pure "Star Trek".

I think that people who don't like this movie are trying to take things WAY to seriously. Watch the original episodes from the 60's! They're made the same way, and nobody complains about them being terrible! I liked the "seriousness" of the other films, but William Shatner knew it was time to lighten up and bring that campy fun back.

At the same time, the movie does have many good, dramatic points. The character interaction and development in "Final Frontier" is better than any other Trek movies. All of the scenes fillmed in the ship's observation lounge are excellent. Jerry Goldsmith's music is awesome.

Bottom line: you've got: 1. vulcans 2. hijacked Enterprise 3. klingon war-mongers 4. battles on desert planets 5. humor 6. drama between Kirk, Spock, and Bones ...sounds like a classic episode to me!

Lighten up and enjoy this often fun and sometimes dramatic and deep film!

Summary: The best TOS film with regard to character interaction
Review: The plot of this film is not its strongest point, though the plot is standard Trek fare. What sets this film apart and makes it the second best TOS cast film (second only to The Wrath of Kahn) is that it includes a great deal of personal interaction between crew members, and a great deal of successful humor.

Whoever criticizes this film on the basis of its plot therefore misses the point entirely. Can anyone say that the funniest line in Star Trek does not appear in this film when Spock is about to embrace Kirk, thankful that the Captain is still alive, as a couple of Klingons stand by watching? Just as Spock opens his arms Kirk says, "Spock, please, not in front of the Klingons."

Those who don't like this film take Star Trek way too seriously. This was Trek's moment to relax and poke a little fun at itself. I for one am thankful for it and for Shatner's direction. The humor throughout clearly reflects his sensibility and ambivalence about Star Trek, whether to be thankful for it and take it seriously on the one hand, or whether to shirk it off as lighthearted play on the other. Throughout, however, despite the ambivalence, the film demonstrates a warmth that certain earlier Nimoy directed Treks do not. In fact it is precisely in the Nimoy films that the series began to take itself too seriously, so much so, I was slumped in my theatre seat cringing during Trek 3, and as for the Voyage Home, that sort of over-the-top and frankly, out-of-character humor, did nothing for me. It tried to be funny, but its attempts at humor were really irrelevant to Star Trek. And as for the save-the-wales theme, I just had to roll my eyes. Please, I don't appreciate Star Trek as the propaganda arm of Greenpeace (who they actually thanked in the credits).

Shatner's film was a much-needed corrective to the sanctimonious embarrassments of Treks 3 and 4. As far as I'm concerned, he got the films back on track.

Summary: WORST! ---excerpt Jerry Goldsmith score
Review: I'm not the fan of Star Trek. But, I watched several star trek film, and 'Star Trek 5' is worse and more stupid than other one. Though some people said Star Trek Series is becoming BLAND, I want to say one thing, "Hey, at least it's better than 'Star Trek 5'! " At Least, Jerry Goldsmith's exellent score is brilliant... It is one of the example for scoring sequel in wonderful way....

Summary: Glad I saw this turkey at a matinee.
Review: What's wrong with this phrase "William Shatner, Film Amateur"? Yeah, you just figured out what's wrong with this film.

STAR TREK V is the worst Trek ever. Control was transferred to Shatner because of a contractual obligation. That's not a good reason to make someone producer, director, writer.

At one time, STAR TREK was about the story of the voyages of the Starship Enterprise and a wonderful mission to push out the boundaries of human knowledge and wisdom. This flick is to show off Shatner as a horseman and a climber of rocks. Jeez, James T. Kirk was NEVER that kind.

Come on, retire this tired old cast. The stories in the current STAR TREK TV series are a purer form of Trek than ANY of these sorry films have ever been.

Summary: A worthwhile experience.
Review: This is absoulutely one of the best Trek films you'll ever see. What really boggles me is how many people have labeled this film a very terrible one. While the film does not give the eye candy that some people may crave, it gives Trek fans everything else that they could want.

For example, the plot of the film, while a bit far-fetched, still holds true to the ideals Star Trek has to offer. Sybok, a emotional vulcan has taken upon himself to find God. But he needs a Starship to reach him, so he kidnaps three civilians of Nimbus III and sends a message to the worlds each civilians are from. From Starfleet comes Jame T. Kirk and the Starship Enterprise to save the day. There you have it, the basic plotline. What I like about this setup is that it rids Trek of the constant plots centering around the destruction of a planet and focuses on the exploration of not only space, but of the human mind and its pain. It also questions life itself. i.e. Is it really just a dream? The end result is it is a much more deep plot than that of Insurrection.

Character development is also a plus in this film. Just about all the characters changed in some way throughout the course of it. Much attention was given to the relationship of friendship and family that Kirk, Spock, and Mccoy share and we see Sybok go through the change of being much more complex than first impressions show.

All and all Trek and non-Trek fans should enjoy this Movie despite it's less than great special effects. My advice is to sit back, enjoy and not nitpick. Movies are just movies, they are not life. If you need to escape the reality of life for a few hours, I highly recommend you experience this installment in the enjoyable Trek series.

Summary: SO BAD ,IT'S GREAT
Review: As a continuing chapter in the Star Trek films,V bites the dust. But I gave my friend a dubbed tape called THE WORST OF CLASSIC TREK(Saving the best for last"SPOCK'S BRAIN).It was the most hilarious thing. It was bad enough with the basement DIY effects, but the plot made them very sub par.As for Star Trek V the plot was ridiculous,Nimbus III reminded me of those bad post-apocolyptic straight-to-video flicks,&poor De Kelley looked like he couldn't keep up with his younger co-stars(though his presence is always a godsent in TREK).But if was intended or not it has an Ed Wood-esque appeal, its humorous without even trying.Though the scene where Spock & Bones expieriencing their past pain is effective in bringing some sense of drama in this farce. In a world where one of the most popular Trek episodes is one of the worst (SPOCK'S BRAIN),V should be seen as one of the many bad chapters in a great tapestry of stories.attn Trekkers: the contents on the Worst of Classic Trek:The Alternative Factor/ Catspaw/ Patterns of Force/ And The Children Shall Lead/Plato's Stepchildren/Let That Be Your Last Battlefield/Whom Gods Destroy/The Way To Eden/The Savage Curtain/&last but not least Spock's Brain.

Summary: I don't care what the critics said, I liked it.
Review: I don't know why so many people have blasted this movie. The classic Trek format is well represented here. The story focuses on the Kirk,Spock,McCoy friendship. The Enterprise crew go off and explore the unknown which is what they do. Spock's past is explored with the return of his brother, Sybok. and no Star Trek Movie is complete without an encounter with the Klingons. The story was enjoyable and is in keeping with the original television series. If people disliked this movie because it wasn't a shoot anything on sight/big effects treatement piece. Then sorry but that;'s not what Star Trek is all about. I rest my case. Story by William Shatner, Harve Bennett and David Loughery.Directed by William Shatner. Music by Jerry Goldsmith.Visual Effects by Bran Ferren.
