Summary: A must see video on Islamic History
Review: This is an excellent and accurate portrayal of the dawn of the religion of Islam. It is riveting and dramatic without getting into extraneous detail. The narration is excellent and interviews with various scholars are substantial. I highly recommend this video for individuals that are interested in learning about the fundamentals and history of Islam and have no prior knowledge of the faith. It is still highly entertaining for those who have a greater grasp of the concepts and outlook of Islam. A must see video for sure!!

Summary: Islam-Empire of Faith - Video
Review: The presentation is an excellent, focused, and historical documentation of Islamic movement in Europe. The producers, underwriters, and broadcasters all deserve a big applause for their courage to portray a correct picture of Islamic movement. This represents a healthy change in the attitude of the western print and audio-visual media towards Islam. I shall be looking forward to seeing a similar documentaries covering Islamic movement in Asia and Africa.

Review: Wow! what a documentary, shows the rise of power and magnificent intelligence of muslims. From Ancient muslim heroes to scholars to their influence today. If you would like to see a movie that shows just how much we north americans as a people owe to the muslims, watch this movie. Brilliant!

Summary: Imcomplete picture
Review: This series is compromised by what can only be described as, "Western ignorance." While it provides a certain amount of solid information regarding various aspects of Islam, it displays a surprising amount of ignorance in regard to Byzantium and the relationship between the Eastern Orthodox and their Muslim neighbors. The series' writers do not take the time to explain the differences between what really amounted to a Greek East and a Latin West; this gross oversight results in many puzzling and confusing details.... In all, there are too many historical lapses for a complete picture to emerge.

Summary: An Excellent Lesson in the History of Islam
Review: This review is based on the video aired on PBS May 7th, 2001.I would recommend this to everyone who is studying Islam or follows the faith. The Best gift any parent can give to their child. Very balanced and undistorted history. I have gained more insight into the history of Islam in 2.5 hrs than I could ever get sitting at in a library for a full year and going through the manuscripts.

Review: Unlike many other "biased" documentaries produced in the Western world, Islam Empire of Faith, was a well-balanced, historical and objective look at Islam. I truly enjoyed wathching it. I will most definitiely recommend it to Muslims and non-Muslims.

Summary: a splendid overview
Review: This is a well made series of three forty-minute films charting the history of Islam from the time of Mahomet to the early Ottoman Empire (in the 17th century). It dispels many myths, and shows that at a time when Christendom was in the Dark Ages, the Sufis were disseminating knowledge throughout Islam from the House of Wisdom in Baghdad. The West owes many things to the Sufi cultivation of knowledge - mathematics, anatomy, optics, the scientific method (borrowed by Roger Bacon), quarantine (and the hospital), cataract surgery, paper, and the Greek Classical texts that kick-started the Renaissance. In the Moorish Empire in Spain, Cordoba was the glory of the world by the time of the Norman conquest. It had running water and a sewage system, as well as libraries full of books when Christian monasteries were proud to have half a dozen. The documentary includes footage of several stunning mosques including that of Cordoba and the beautiful Alhambra. It is a revelation for anyone brought up in a country where the only mention of Islam is the Crusaders' attacks upon Palestine. Or the misapprehension that women are forced to wear veils in all Muslim cultures. Ben Kingsley narrates, and historical scenes are well recreated. In the present anti-Muslim climate this is a good teaching aid. Excellent!
