Summary: Not for Fans
Review: I wish I could review the complete miniseries but unfortunately I stopped watching after the first half it was so bad. As any old sci fi channel movie this would rate almost ok. The problem is that the old Battlestar Galactica wasn't broke so why try and fix it. I was hoping they would take the original and just jazz up the effects (the old ones were pretty good to begin with), not take the story and "re-imagine" it. I hated the new characters, particularly taking Starbuck and Boomer and making them female. The old series had plenty of strong female characters without the help of a female Starbuck. The old Baltar was pure good old fashioned evil, not some mixed up loser and the old Battlestar actually looked like a battleship, not a piece of CGI. Star Trek TNG worked because it was a new show. Nobody took Kirk and "re-imagined" him.

Summary: For Those BsG Purists, has about 2% to do with to do w/ Orig
Review: This New Battlestar Galactica has very ... little to do with the original, although within the first half it appears to soothe purists with a cameo scene of the original Colonial Vyper, Cylon Raider, possibly a Cylon Warrior and the classic Galactica. All of these images would be highly familiar with BsG Fans. But everything before and after would be as alien as an Ovion, especially in their dietary tastes.

All of the characters in the new "ReInvented" series are such a bad reflection on the original characters, especially Starbuck and Boomer. The idea of both characters transposing genders is a travesty and a discrace compared to the original. The next discrace is Baltar, turning him into a computer programmer and a hacker in comparision to a failed senator with extremely treasonous tendencies who acts upon them and betrays the whole human race (in their galaxy) is a much more plausible reason for betraying one's friends and fellow humans. I do guess, that with a much more accepting audience with regards to acceptable sexual stimuli. It only seems proper (for a teen-age audience to accept such behaviour.
As you can tell, I admit to being a fan of the original series. Most of the characters are so jumbled and twisted compared to the original that you would hardly recognize them. Especially Lorne Green's character "Adama", which was his complete name in the original, is now his last name. Appolo, Starbuck, and Boomer are now within the new "reimagined" series call signs within the fleet and not proper names. The Cylons in TOV (the original version) are much more menacing, especially with the Imperious leader, Lucifer and Baltar at his side directing it's every move.

Overall the series would have been much better received by other BsG fans and myself if the author would have called it something entirely different and would not be using characters and names from the Original 1978 Series.

The only point that I can make to improve the old series is that I am a very Strong Presbyterian Christian, BsG is losely based on Mormon history. Please, when watching it do not confuse fact with religous fantasy.

(Regarding comments, I have tried to find a way to let the system guide me to a place where others can add comments, but
I could not find it at all.)

Summary: Well...
Review: I'm a bit too young to have seen the original when it was new. I did see about half of it on scifi, but I guess that doesn't count after seeing things like Babylon 5 and other CGI-powered series. This remake was quite nice I think. I guess the real purists might complain and might have real reason to; but I found the look to be quite in line with what I imagined... I'm satisfied. Oh, when I looked at opinions on this page, I was quite disappointed at the negative slant that emerged long before the series ever came on the air.

Summary: Surprisingly Great Mini-Series
Review: I grew up with the re-runs of the original Battlestar Galactica series. I absolutely loved the show!

I will admit that I was very negative about the idea of a re-interpretation of Battlestar Galactica. I was very upset by the idea of a female Starbuck and Terminator-like Cylons that look like humans. Thus, I was prepared to tune-in and then tune-out in disgust.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by Part I of the new Battlestar Galactica series. There are several nods to the original series, including the use of the original theme song during the Galactica's decommissioning ceremony and the use of the word "frack." Our old friends, the metal-bound Cylons, do make an appearance in several instances. The new series received a well-deserved 9 out of 10 from TV Guides's Hit and Misses reviewer.

Most importantly, this movie is good sci-fi. The characters have some development and layers while facing an enemy that is ultimately of humanity's own creation.

I would recommend this series and plan to pre-order (even though I haven't seen part II yet).

Summary: BATTLESTAR DESERVES NO STARS
Review: Another reviewer posed the notion that this updated version couldn't be any worse than the original. How wrong could anyone get? (Besides, I really liked the original three-part pilot.)

The new mini-series version of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is a total piece of crap. The producers went to extreme effort to make a movie that doesn't move. The first hour gets so bogged down examining the personal and moral angsts of its characters--that is when they aren't engaging in rather pointless sex--that you find yourself screaming at the screen for the action to begin. When it does begin--the Cylon attack on the 12 Colonies--they still keep everything, well, STILL. The vipers are so obviously models in their flight scenes that you can actually see them NOT move! Most of the war takes place off-camera, and the few scenes where vipers and Cylon raiders fight lack that razzle-dazzle laser fire that livened the original movie/pilot. In fact, the Cylons themselves are so absent from the screen, the viewer loses any possible horror they might have felt for the actual attack.

Since all of the characters--and there are so many it becomes hard to keep track of who they are--spend most of their time dealing with their issues, none of them becomes even remotely likeable. (And for crying out load, Starbuck is a WOMAN?!) After an hour and a half of what seemed like a torture session, I finally switched it off.

Don't be fooled by the one star rating I gave this unmitigated example of wasted celluloid; it deserved no stars, and I wish Amazon would have allowed me to rate it so.

Don't waste any money even RENTING this.

Summary: This Viper's ready for flight.
Review: First of all, a lot of people seem to be complaining that reviews are being posted about something no one's even seen aired yet. Valid point. I've just finished watching the first episode on the SciFi channel, so here's my thoughts. Yes, I'm not too keen on the Cylons being humanoid. Yes, I thought the sex was gratuitous. And, yes, seeing a female Starbuck raised a red flag in my head at first. On the other hand, someone finally had the brains to figure out sentient machines don't need to pilot their own ships when they can BE the freakin' ships! And continuity has not been completely ditched, as testified to by the Cylon centurion in a museum display and references in dialogue ("The last time anyone saw a Cylon they looked like walking chrome toasters."). I seem to recall Star Trek fans going berserk over what they considered a total dismissal of Trek's history and signature qualities when "The Next Generation" was nothing more than a casting call. No one was going to let a bald Englishman take Captain Kirk's place without a fight. Well, the world didn't come to an end, after all, and "Star Trek" as a brand received a megavolt recharge from this "revisionist trash." I'm only giving a middle-of-the-road rating simply because I've yet to see the rest of the miniseries, obviously, but based on what I've seen so far I'm more than interested in a DVD release. Why do you think I checked Amazon's listings tonight?

Summary: The work of a "Moore-Ron"
Review: This isn't the Battlestar Galactica you've been waiting for. Welcome to Battlestar 2003, gone are the sci-fi space opera Heroics of old, in are the all the imperfections of today's liberal society. This is a dark horrible creation which pilfers the name of Battlestar Galactica. This is not a show for children, within the first few minutes of the film a baby's neck is snapped, and I lost track of how many people were having sex on screen. All in all it had too much of a Starship Troopers, Wing Commander feel to it. If there is any justice left in the world Battlestar 2003 will soon be forgotten, and a proper remake of this Sci-Fi Classic will get its chance someday. Don't buy this piece of garbage, it will soon be found gathering dust in the bottom of the Dollar Movie bargain bin with Star Trek Nemesis.

Summary: BG Finally takes itself serious...so I can too
Review: I grew up on the origional series. As a kid I loved it. But even as a kid I thought a few of the shows got to be a little...well...stupid.
I did have a few problems with it at first. The whole Starbuck and Boomer thing for one. Than I saw it, I LOVE the new way. Starbuck kicks more (booty) now than ever. The new Cylons make sense now as well.
This will do for this show what Star Trek: TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise did for star trek. A show that has a good story but somewhat cheesy aliens and story lines. Take all of the origional idea and make it adult. I can not wait for this to hit the shelves as DVD. And I pray to God above that is goes into a series.
Old schoolers have to just let go of the old show. Give the new one a chance. I used to love the old one...now I cant even get threw an episode. The new one has taken over for me.
I would like to see some old characters make come back appearances from time to time though.

Summary: A new rewrite of a classic sci-fi series is a very bad idea.
Review: As for me personally, I would have liked to see a continuation of the original series that I grew up with. When BsG, or BG as fans called it was primiered to the world, it came directly after Star Wars, Granted. Is the story the same, similar or even close: No, No, and No. As for the original story, Mormonism: Definately. But as a Reformed Christian who can analyze between fact and sheer sci-fi fantasy, the stories are quite plausible. Now would I support this new effort. No, the author of the new story obviously just got permission from Universal Studios who have the Literary rights to the story to write a story that has very very little to barely nothing to do with the original except for the Title and other distinguishing factors such as Vypers, the cylons and the title characters.

Summary: What do you want more?
Review: I think, that the new Battlestar Galactica will be the best one. Sorry, the old one was the worst old Sci-Fi-serie i've ever seen. Not only the dialogues, also the whole equipment of the old one was soooo bad(Ok, it was a serie of the 70s?). Doesn't matter, after all, what I read, what I saw about the new Battlestar series, I am a real fan of the new one.
