Summary: Interesting, but totally one-sided view of the JFK murder
Review: "The Men Who Killed Kennedy" is an interesting series, but in all candor I'd say 95% of it is fiction, just like Oliver Stone's movie "JFK." It's basically a showcase for pro-conspiracy beliefs, many of which are truly ridiculous. If you believe Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assassin you are going to be frustrated and annoyed by this program because that side of the story is almost completely ignored.

Summary: Flawed, but Essential
Review: "The Men Who Killed Kennedy," the 1988 British documentary series broadcast here in 1992, and often since, is flawed, but includes a rich variety of film footage and witness interviews, valuable for anyone with an interest in the assassination of President Kennedy. It makes a good companion to such DVDs as "JFK" by Oliver Stone, "JFK: The Day the Nation Cried," and "Image of an Assassination: A New Look at the Zapruder Film." For a more biographical approach, there is also "The Kennedys." The DVD of "The Men Who Killed Kennedy" is long overdue and very welcome.

Summary: I did not know that!
Review: ... In this case you start to think everyone is guilty except Oswald.
"The Men Who Killed Kennedy", a six-part series; It is quite a bit to take in at one sitting. It looks like everyone is coming out of the woodwork. Where were these people when you could do something about it? And everyone had a gun or a camera. There were pictures of the people taking pictures and pictures of people with guns. There were shots from buildings, knolls, and even sewers. Everyone that ever had a grudge and even a group put together by Bobby Kennedy.
I do not want to tell too much, as that is why you are buying the film. You will finally be convinced it happened this way then they will convince you it happened that way. But you will be glued to the set the whole time.

Summary: A Flawed Masterpiece
Review: A great History Channel study, yes ... except for a few trivial cons. One for instance, nudity. It was uneeded, and added nothing whatsoever to the film, so why did they have it? And in every episode? Geez! Other than that and a few more cons (you must be open minded to view and like this film for one), this is an excellent look into a baffling mystery. Oliver Stone needs to take a look at this! :-)

Summary: Beware portions of this sequel...
Review: A sequel to the landmark 1988 BBC documentary "The Men who Killed Kennedy", this 1995 History Channel-commissioned "The Truth Shall Make You Free" (though produced by the same Nigel Turner) should be looked at with more skepticism. This sequel tries to suggest that after the assassination, brother Bobby took charge of the cover-up (even controlling JFK's autopsy from a remote location!) in order to prevent damage to the Kennedy name should facts about the anti-Castro/Operation Mongoose plots leak-out were Oswald's true background to be revealed--- or were such data to result, perhaps, in WW3...

Even were RFK willing to do so, his "complicity" in the cover-up would have hardly been necessary, the parties who brought about the assassination having clearly had the cover-up well-forged ahead of time.
Because it is understood that SOME conspiracy in the shooting of JFK will eventually become accepted as historical fact, there has been a move on in recent years by the some in the "Establishment media" to imply that, as result of the anti-Castro plots (which actually pre-dated the Kennedy administration), that the plots backfired and, hence, the Kennedy brothers were done-in in the same manner planned for Castro.. Thus the audience is left to infer that the Kennedys had reaped what they'd sown, a slimy impression if ever there was one.

Responsible investigation has shown, however, that the Kennedys tried to put a STOP to the anti-Castro plots, especially after the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, though the plots continued without Kennedy approval.

Yes, the first "Men Who Killed Kennedy" series from '88 was a very respectable (if not totally focused) work, but this 1995 sequel does its best to cleverly UNDO the points established by the original.

Summary: What does an Australian know?
Review: An Australian reviewer says this DVD is propoganda. SOrry pal. We here in the US are not so naieve as to believe one man with a junky, rusty rifle pulled off the most dramatic assassination in history. Forget the "mysteriously dying" witnesses, forget the "three Oswalds" who shot Tippit, Forget the FAT Oswald who went to Mexico, let's just ask one common sense question: Could one man do this? Pretty simple answer; NO! Most compelling is the guy who was an Eagle SCout who was on the knoll but supposedly had no proof. The researchers found him embedded in the shot of the grassy knoll gunman! That one segment proves this is real research done by real people. propoganada? I think not. Just the facts MAN, just the facts!

Summary: NOT Pulp Fiction...
Review: During the week marking the 40th anniversary of JFK's assasination, I watched most of this series, "Unsolved History"'s special, and the Peter Jennings special. (I had the flu, lots of couch time.) While there is much of what could be considered speculation in this series, it is far from "pulp fiction" as another reviewer described it. (As opposed to Oliver Stone's movie, which is overwhelmingly fiction.) The Peter Jennings special mentioned did present compelling evidence of Oswald being perhaps the only shooter (or at least, the only one who hit the target successfully), but completely ignores any circumstances or testimony that potentially contradicts the "lone gunman" theory. It is told from an establishment "This is the story, stop asking questions" point of view, which is just as irresponsible as the Oliver Stone method.

All in all, this series is informative and, generally, responsibly told. But... the other chapters mentioned by some reviewers here are INCENDIARY, implying that LBJ was actually BEHIND the assasination (as opposed to being merely an accessory after the fact, which is what most conspiracy theorists would believe). It wouldn't surprise me if they're being held back for legal reasons. (Oh, and the chapter about Oswald's secret lover was very tabloidish, but plausible.)
