Summary: Tremendous Production
Review: Truly a wonderful production filled with all the triumph and tradgedy of the race to the moon. This series mainly covers the Apollo program, only briefly touching on the Mercury and Gemini missions in the first episode. Otherwise, each episode deals with the progression towards the first moon landings and on to the final mission in 1972.

Review: I bought this with the mistaken thought that it was a documentary. My initial disappointment that it was actually a mini series was short lived. Quite simply, this is one of, if not the, best mini series I have ever seen. It gets in depth into the early and Apollo missions, and puts a human face on everyone involved. It really amazes me that we did this. It captures the excitment and emotions of the time. I hope I make more mistakes like this.

Review: "From The Earth To The Moon" is not just a series with good acting,eccellent special effects and surprising stories on the space program and the Moon flights.For those that grew up watching this history,it is a document of the times and for this Australian who devoured every scrap of information as a child(every Time and Newsweek and news article),it took me back to those wonderful moments.I still remember as a child hearing about Alan Shepard's suborbital flight and,on Feb 20th 1962,my local Perth Australia TV station for the first time stayed on "all day" to cover the flight.In between the cartoons and black and white American TV shows,there were updates on John Glenn's epic orbit of the Earth.For this 7 year old,it was an exciting day as Perth turned it's lights on for John and for decades on called itself "the city of light".In 1969,I watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon with my family and when The three astronauts toured the world,our state declared a public holiday to welcome them to Western Australia and the crowd sang "happy birthday" to a surprised Michael Collins.These DVDs cover all the spaceflights brilliantly,from Ed White's first spacewalk,the Gemini flights,the Apollo 1 fire and the moon landings.They tell us the unknown stories,of people trying to convince NASA that a separate Moon lander was needed and how they were scoffed at and the episode on Apollo 13 tells the story from the medias point of view.Alan Shepard's Moon golf shot is well known,but who knew about Buzz Aldrin performing a Catholic ceremony on the Moon or Alan Bean and Pete Conrad sneaking a timer to the Moon to try and photograph themselves together mugging in front of the surveyor craft?From The Earth To The Moon takes us back to the 1960s with all it's turmoil and history.The efforts to create the lander were epic and took many years and also the efforts to create this huge rocket with it's millions of parts were equally so.From The Earth To The Moon tells of what a huge effort it took to develop the technology and to land on the moon,with many dangers and mishaps and triumphs along the way.It is more than an Emmy Award winning series,it is part of history and a document of the times.

Summary: What Price For One Of Mankind's Oldest Dreams?
Review: Whenever I hear the uninformed complain about the cost of ventures like Project Apollo, I grind my teeth and retort: "How can you put a price on one of mankind's oldest dreams?" And it astonished me that mankind (or U.S. politicians) abandoned Lunar exploration just when Nasa was getting good at it! I waited many years for somebody to make a series like this. When 'The Right Stuff' came out I waited impatiently for some kind of follow up, but it never came. Until now. Finally, after Ron Howard's wonderful 'Apollo 13', we have this extraordinary series. We get to see the Astronauts, their families and Nasa management as something other than two-dimensional history book figures. Myself and many others cannot express our gratitude enough for the existence of 'From The Earth To The Moon'. The series gives good coverage of the Gemini program which often tends to be overlooked, although a portrayal of the remarkable events of Gemini 6 and 7 would have been welcome. I know that there was only limited running time and budget to show certain missions. But more details of the near-mutiny of Apollo 7, the white-knuckle events of Apollo 10 and the problem solving of Apollo 16 could have been important additions to the series. Perhaps one day someone will make a long-overdue movie or series about Yuri Gagarin and the eventful Russian space program, Skylab and the Apollo-Soyuz mission. And one day, someone could tell the tales of the early Shuttle program and the Challenger tragedy. Manned spaceflight has many tales left to tell. But for now, 'From The Earth To The Moon' is a magnificent and very comprehensive start. Hey, Mr Hanks: You should follow Dennis Tito on the next available Soyuz to the Space Station. I'd like to see Nasa say no then!

Review: the sheer drama of this series is refreshing and satisfying. The images and emotions that this fact-based portrayal of the Apollo program conjures up are palpable. Even those with a marginal interest or less in the space program will bemoved by the heroism and grandeur...well acted and beautifully photographed. A must have for any familly

Summary: America's Greatest Adventure!
Review: This is without a doubt one of the greatest stories in American history. I am only in my twenties and unfornatley was not alive during this great moment of history, however this mini-series does such a great job of recreating a time that changed the world forever. If you are interested in the space program at all I would pick this up along with The Right Stuff, and Apollo 13. One final question: When are we going back?

Summary: Absolutely Fantastic!
Review: Having been born in 1961, I remember firsthand the drama and awe of this human adventure from a childs perspective. I remember how exciting it was, how inspiring! Today, I find myself blessed to be able to look back at those events with an adult's perspective, and to re-explore them through this great work so deftly done! Having watched this special on HBO during it's initial broadcasts, and now to be able to own this set on DVD, with all the added features, it truly exciting. The history shown in the series is accurate, and the drama very real indeed. It gives one an appreciation for what this country can do when motivated towards a goal. This series is inspiring and recaptures the moments, glorious, terrifying, sad, and joyful, all in one very well done miniseries. Tom Hanks and HBO outdid themselves. Watching this, you get to feel the pride of what America can do, and DID do. This work is a tribute to all the men and women, and whole families, that supported the NASA efforts. I am lucky enough to actually have worked with some of the people who were part of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo teams during their careers. Each one of their personal stories echoes the kind of "can do" attitude that this series captures so very well!

Review: If you are old enough to remember the reality of landing on the moon, this title will make you think again and again, about the waste of talent that is being perpetuated by dot com companies. The geniuses that are providing this review would have, 30 years ago, taken you to the moon. This is an inspiring and humbling set.

Summary: Fantastic Viewing
Review: This is by far the best set of DVD's in my collection of "movies". Viewing this has been an enjoyable refresher on the history of the space program. Each of the segments is short enough to be viewed in under an hour but still contains a significant amount of information. The thing that I enjoy most about the series is the way that each segment is told from a certain person's perspective. This adds a whole new dimension to the events that were occuring at that time.

Summary: Great movie for Space stuff fun!
Review: Great job Mr. Tom Hanks! I just love this collection of videos and I've been watching over and over. I wasn't born when this Apollo project started, so I don't know how it was in the real situation. Being a fun of Tom Hanks and space stuff, I really enjoyed this collection of videos. It's also good for your kids to learn history of the space age.
