Summary: a good package of a great show having a weak season...
Review: The sopranos without a doubt cemented hbo's place in television as we know it today. It proved that a show could push boundaries and force the viewers to think while they watch, and still be a hit alongside the mainstream drivel like will & grace. Because of the sopranos we now have other amazing hbo programming to enjoy like the project greenlight special, and the amazing 6 feet under series and the baltimore drug war epic, the wire.Looking back a few years later you have to ask, do the sopranos deserve the hype and the praise? the answer is without a doubt yes. the first two seasons were as good as any other show on tv almost. It was here in season 3 though that they lost their focus somewhat and got overly ambitious. Too many storylines were started that never got followed thorough, with the creators opting instead to start even more storylines that they would ultimately not finish. The acting remains top notch for the most part, and at times they hit their old stride and the magic is there again. the best example of this being the wonderful pine barrens episode directed by steve buscemi. Sadly though the rest of the season wasn't on the same level as that one stroke of genius and lost steam for the series. I do appreciate that hbo offers the series on dvd at all, I think it's something that is great to see happen. If you're a hardcore fan and have seen the first two seasons then by all means watch this as well. if you're new to the series though, you would be better served starting at the beginning with season one when the show was tighter, better paced, and followed through on new storylines fully.

Review: If you've seen it and you love it, you know you have to own it! You know all about it, its hyped up and tops, HBOs best yet. This mob family is a huge hit and who couldnt love Tony, Carm, Meadow and the rest? I dont even think it needs a review, I believe majority of people have seen it and loved it. Now all you gotta do is own it!

Summary: THE BADA BING GIRLS GET THEIR CHANCE
Review: I was waiting for episodes in which the Bada Bing strippers play more than a decorative role in the saga, and the 3rd season is it. Howvever, there is no cast listing for the actress playing Traci, the one who hooks up with and gets beaten up by the Joe Palienteri character.

Summary: These characters are really human. Excellent writing!
Review: Just watched a full thirteen hours of this just-released DVD. Wow! This series just keeps getting better and better. In spite of being involved in a violent lifestyle, each character comes across as very human. I relate to them all. And somehow, the writing is so good that I feel I'm right there, a member of the family. These episodes fit together beautifully, and are part of the great mosaic that has been delighting viewers for the past three years. I just recently became an HBO subscriber and actually saw only one or two episodes before the season ended. But I'm all caught up now, after also viewing Seasons One and Two on DVD and can't wait to watch it week by week as the Season Four begins. One of the things I love most about the series is the depth of understanding the writers have of human nature. The action of the story is true to the personalities of each character. And afterward I can understand why their hard choices could only go one way, given who they are. For example, there is a brutal rape episode in which the viewer wonders what will happen next. Afterwards, however, because of previously established characterizations, I could understand that the episode couldn't have concluded in any other way. There is also a humanization of one of the girls who work at the strip club, changing forever the viewer's perception of the realities of the trade. I've come to love Carmela with all her soul searching about her role of a Mafia wife. And of course there is Tony with all his humanity, and some very erotic scenes with a seemingly sophisticated new lady friend. Their relationship sparks and then disintegrates quite quickly and the attraction followed by repulsion was easy to understand. Tony's children and his family life keep getting more interesting. Meadow is at college now and has to deal with new relationships while still tied to the familiar. And A.J. is showing signs of the same kind of panic attacks that affect his father. Tony's mother dies in the first episode and what follows regarding his sister's Janet's reaction is exactly the kind of scatterbrained nonsense mixed with cruelty that we've all come to expect from her. Tony's Mafia family is still true to what we've come to expect. This year it's Ralphie we all love to hate. And then there's Jackie Jr. whose stupidity leads to tragedy. Tony still has feelings of guilt about previous acts of violence. But I just love the fact that there are flashbacks instead of some of the silly dream sequences that appeared in episodes during the first two years. As a total package, this third year gets another super high recommendation. Don't miss it. But be sure to see the first two years in order to put it all in perspective.

Summary: Good Season. . .
Review: . . .but not quite as good as the previous two. This season definately had it's uneven moments. They ranged from poor (lackluster season finale) to incredible ("Pine Barrens"--was THE BEST hour of television that year). There are many unanswered questions from this season: What will happen to Dr. Melfi?, What's up with Paulie?, Where did the Russian go?, Will Janice ever get what's coming to her?, What will happen with Ralphie, Meadow, Anthony Jr.?, and How do the New York families play into the unfolding drama? So while the Sopranos is still the best show on television, Season 3 does not quite live up to Seasons 1 & 2. Also there were way to many unanswered questions that we had to wait well over a year to get answered.

Summary: What an extraordinary year for TV's best series!
Review: A lot of people consider the third season of The Sopranos to be some kind of letdown, but I think that's simply the result of people expecting too much of the same. Frankly, had the creative team simply rehashed the same-old for another season, many viewers would have been happy. Instead, they tore the show down to its core and branched off in several complex, intriguing directions. Without that, this show would have indeed become a disappointment. Season three was, without question, the best season yet for this series!

Review: This season, the third of many we hope, is a real turn point to the serie. The dead of the mother, the moving of the child to college and the revelation of the real origin of his anxiety attacks are the big challenges to T. S.. This season is also more truely to the real mobs day to day living. The family and the Family affairs. The violence on every thing people do. A great season that I will glady review. And review.
