Rating: Summary: Fan-Damn-Tabulous! Review: In Living Color was probably the best sketch comedy show ever produced on TV. For my money there are more laughs per episode of this show than any other TV show, bar none. These brilliant people hit the ground running with the very first sketch of the very first episode, and didn't let up. The first season only had 13 episodes, but there's so much comedic genius crammed into these three discs that it feels like 26 episode's worth. What amazes me is that only Jim Carrey went on to prominent film success, like many SNLers have. As funny as Jim Carrey is, I don't think he was the funniest performer on this show. Nevertheless, In Living Color ages extremely well over time. It's hard to believe that its first season was in 1990. Recurring characters like Homey D. Clown, Anton the Bum and the Hedleys are simply funny. I'd have time to watch thirteen shows if I only had nine jobs!
Rating: Summary: The "Orginal" Posse of Bordeline Comedy Returns!!! Review: I was only 17 when In Living Color First debuted. Everything from the "Two Snaps Up" to "Homey Don't Play Dat!!" was always said on the streets. It was ILC that started the evolution of laughter to the level that they took it to. There were others that tried to follow (MAD TV), but the classic song says it best: Ain't Nuthin Like The Real Thing!! I watch the DVD as if it came out new on TV all over again. Nothing will ever take the place of this show and the mark it made in the industry. Even though I know it would be too much to ask, but it would be nice if they could get together and do a like a reunion episode with EVERYBODY in it. I would say it would never happen, but I've always been told "Never Say Never". But until then, I can't wait for Season 2 to come out on DVD (or which ever one has Wanda in it). But this is definitely a collector's item!! It deserves the snap in Z formation!!!! lol
Rating: Summary: missing the point Review: I don't understand why folks are making all these comments about the show being "dated." Seeing as how it aired over 10 years ago, naturally it is full of references to the events and personalities of that time. To me "dated" means something that does NOT hold up well over time, as opposed to "classic", meaning that which DOES stand the test of time. If this material still makes us laugh today, which it does, then it obviously is not dated, but truly classic. Granted, you need to know something about the culture of the time period in which the show was created or you will miss much of the humor. This is true of any topical sketch comedy show. In the case of ILC, it would only be the very young who wouldn't get it and a lot of this stuff is too risque for them, anyway. This show richly deserves its DVD release. Don't forget this is only the first season on this disk. Some other sketches people complained about not being included were probably in later seasons, the DVD release of which will hopefully soon follow!
Rating: Summary: 5 snaps in a circle!!!! Review: The first time I saw Men on Film I knew I would not stop laughing. The outfits, the way they spoke, and how they kept the sensors in a panic!!!! You had to love this show, and if you did not, then you missed out on something wonderful. I'm so happy this show is on DVD. Jim Carey as Vera Dimilo, Damon in The Wrath of Farrakhan skit, Kim Wayans in the A Date with Grace Jones skit (I want alligator and I want it RAW), Cooking with Salt and Pepa, The Headly's (You only have 4 jobs?), Homey the Clown, and Anton the bum. The cast was excellent and this was the best show on TV. You have to buy this!!! Can't wait for the other seasons to be released on DVD. Ugly Wanda, and Fire Marshall Bill!!!
Rating: Summary: It's about Time Review: I am soooo happy that finally they are selling this series on DVD. I have been wondering for a long time if they would ever do it, and now that they are, I am just thrilled. During all my junior high and high school years I watched this show every sunday along with the Simpsons. It brings me back to those days of non-stop laughter. Now all they need to do is start selling "Get a Life" and we will all be set.
Rating: Summary: FLASH BACK! Review: My family looked at this over the weekend. I wish all seasons were available, because we were looking forward to "Wanda". "Old Train" and "Rollo" were my favorite skits. Season 1 is before Jennifer Lopez joined as a "fly girl". Can't wait until more seasons are released.
Rating: Summary: Special Features selection, not that colorful. Review: I bought this the day it came out. I was a big fan of the show when it was on and I still am. There is no way you can resist Homey the Clown...THERE'S NO WAY! But anyway the DVD set is great. It contains all of the hillarious episodes from season 1 and two special features (Which could have been better.): Looking Back In Living Color-Season 1 Back In Step With The Fly Girls For the "Looking Back..." special feature they didn't even get Kenon Ivory Wayans to talk on it though. What could he be doing thats more important than talking about his own creation? They should of got him and Damon Wayans at least to do this. They probably couldn't of gotten "James" Carrey though. Oh, and who could forget about the fly girls? God there were hot! Well anyways check out my other reviews too. Oh and also enjoy this DVD set.
Rating: Summary: In Living Color Review Review: I purchased this DVD recently. Watching all the episodes from season one brought back pleasant memories of laughing at all of the funny skits. I hope that they eventually release all of the other seasons. If you haven't bought this DVD yet, go out and get it. It is a must have.
Rating: Summary: Totally Great Comedy!!!! Review: I love to laugh. And watching this, you will. Great TV show series. The total cast is absolutly the best.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious, but dated Review: Good: This is the best sketch comedy show in TV history, and all the funniest stuff is here: The Wrath of Farrakhan, Homeboy Shopping Network, Mike Tyson, Arsenio Hall, etc. These made me laugh so hard I could barely breathe. Great old school rap, too. (Digital Underground, Public Enemy, etc.) Bad: It is already dated. If you don't remember Milli Vanilli, Grace Jones, Marion Barry, etc. you'll miss some of the jokes. Also, some of the sketches are not funny (but fewer than any episode of SNL or MadTV). Note: Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, and Marlon Wayans are *not* on this DVD; they all joined after season 1. Any reviewer who references them hasn't viewed this DVD.
