Summary: M*A*S*H DVD - For all it's worth....it's not worth enough
Review: After viewing the 2nd season DVD of M*A*S*H on DVD, and enjoying the option to erase the laugh track, I realize how excellent the show was in it's infancy, before the plotlines were re-used ad-infinitum. I mean, how many times can Radar lose his teddy bear? That subplot must have been used at least 30 times in the series. Through 2 C.O.'s no less, Potter and Blake both had to put up with missing Teddy Bears. The sound that came through was excellent, crisp and clairified. The video did look a little grainy, especially in closing credits. I love this show, I began watching it when I was in 8th grade, and i'm now 21. I've seen every episode countless times over, except the rare ones, the ones that seldom ever air on FX Network and our local FOX Network station. Seeing these episodes really added color and depth to the characters. But, for all it's good, the DVD lacks ANY special features, I had to say that special features was the whole reason I bought a DVD Player. To find that this, and the original Star Trek series both have no special features is a total let-down. It seems to me that somewhere Alan Alda, Mike Farrell, Harry Morgan, David Ogden Stiers, Wayne Rogers, William Christopher and a million and a half other cast members are at least WANTING to reminisce in the roles that got them better gigs, or got them known. I work in a Video Rental store, so I was able to rent this DVD without paying for it, and I can say that it's not worth nearly fourty dollars. Maybe with some special features, it might be. Take a cue, FOX/CBS for the 3rd Season release!

Review: I think the MASH season DVD's are fantastic!! I have been watching MASH since I was 10 years old and have still not gotten tired of watching every episode that comes on TV. The picture quality on the DVDs is very good. I believe that Fox has done a great job of restoring the picture quality. I have seen many episodes on TV that are extremely poor clarity. My only complaint, along with many of the other reviewers, is the time between season releases. Hopefully as the seasons become more recent and the film is less damaged by age the season releases will get closer together.

Summary: Rediscovering M*A*S*H
Review: What can I possibly write about Mash that has never been said before? Not much, so how about a few honest words?!The money makers at 20th Century Fox have decided that Mash is a gold mine and FINALLY decided to release it. Good news to fans and collector's, great news for 20th. Mash on DVD is a special treat because for the first time in 30 years, we can see the UNCUT episodes, the way they were aired. In re-runs they typically trim another 5 miniutes to allow yet more commercials. This is usually unnoticable, but occasionally a good portion of the plot (or sub-plot) is ruined. (This is of course, the same with all TV re-runs). The DVD's are great in this respect, because they are complete. In a way, it's like discovering new episodes. Sadly, the only "Special Feature" is the ability to watch the episodes without the laugh track, which is nice, but there could have certainly have been more. I have written 20th about this (yet unanswered) such as:
1) Bloopers (there had to be SOME, at least!)
2) The Making of M*A*S*H (a PBS Special in the 80's)
3) The numerous News segments that were aired with various members of the cast. It was like every aspect of Mash was aired throught it's air years.
4) The many appearances by the cast on the Tonight Show, PM Magazine, Letterman, etc. I have many on audio (no VCR's for the common man in those days). So why not include them on DVD as a sort of bonus?
5) What about the Mash specials that have aired. One this year (2002), and one in 1991?
6) Goodbye, Farewell and A-Men (The Mash swan song has yet to be released on DVD!)
7) How about an virtual tour of the camp? That would just rule! The web site was better than the DVD! Basically at ()Money a season, it would cost aprox. (Money) for all 11 seasons. For that kind of money, I want 3 things. They are:
1) More features (like those mentioned above!)
2) Better release schedule (at the current release rate, it would take 5 years to get the entire series)
3) Bloopers man, bloopers! Where are the bloopers?! Show me the bloopers!!! The quality. The over-all quality could have been better. These are from the master's? Grainy at times, but still acceptable. It just seems to me that 20th is trying to make money, instead of providing a classic. I'll still buy them though, only because I have been a dedicated fan for 30 years! Finally, if everyone that bought this series so far, or read this article would write to 20th and mention what I have, they would get an overwhelming amount of mail and would probably include these items in future releases. Maybe in time for Season Three?! Please take the time and write them! The fans should be heard! --Don

Summary: M*A*S*H: A Second Dose! Medicine that's FUN to take!!
Review: As a dyed-in-the-wool M*A*S*H-aholic, I couldn't stand the wait for the release of this second season collection! If you risked wearing grooves in DVD's, my first season discs would have 'em, and so would these, very soon! Even the most hard core fan who has seen every episode multiple times has a new treat coming, as these re-mastered originals (in their uncut entirety)are like brand new toys under the Christmas tree.
In fact, the ONLY COMPLAINT I'd have for CBS/Fox is the long, long waiting time between edition releases!

Review: Another excellent collection of MASH episodes. The DVD picture quality and sound is wonderful. This isn't a DVD with a lot of bells and whistles, but it has what is important....The laugh track can be turned off and the entire episode is shown (TV syndication cut small portions to make room for more commercials.)

Summary: Wonderful Series
Review: One of the best shows ever put on television. I have read the Complete Book of MASH by Kalter and the attitude of the cast and crew evidenced by tne book is astounding. This collection has some of my favorite shows in it. Carry On Hawkeye is hilarious and touching- a trademark of the series. Impatiently waiting further DVDS.

Summary: M*A*S*H Made Me a Pacifist
Review: We like to think that school and family play a big role in shaping our identities, but for many of us it was TV. Although at the time when my friends and I watched what we thought was a goofy comedy in the 1970s, after graduating high school and finding out that selective service was re-initiated, we were terrified of joining the military. Some of my friends even went to college in Canada! The anti-war themes in MASH made many of us pacifists, and its eleven seasons are testimony to that strand of the American identity. In the current climate of saber-rattling jingoism, with loud calls for wars against you name it, maybe we all ought to kick back, pop open a six pack and enjoy a few laughs. By the way, does any one know what languages MASH has been translated into? Maybe it can create pacifists abroad, too, in the ultimate anti-war global PSYOP! Enjoy the fun everyone.

Summary: The Greatest Series Ever
Review: First, a message to Jake who posted on August 5th. I assume the "Winter 2003" release date probably means January or February 2003, not December 2003. That would about equate to the time it took between the release of Season 1 and Season 2. But that's still not fast enough as, at the present publishing pace, it will probably be 2006 or 2007 when all of the years are published! Speed it up Fox; it's not like you are adding goodies like actors' commentaries to the sets! The MASH series was one of the greatest ever with memorable characters with great stories (most of the time). I've watched almost all of the episodes from Season's 1 and 2 and can only name 2 or 3 that I didn't care for. That's a pretty good record. These early seasons were the best as we get to know the characters as our friends (even Frank Burns) and appreciate the talents of all of the actors in the series. This period in the MASH series was great as it was not as preachy as it would become in later years when Alan Alda took a greater hand in the development of the series and made it more a statement against war than dealing with living in a war. Some of the best episodes in this set were "Five O'Clock Charlie" (one of the best ever) and "Deal Me Out" plus the sappy, but well done "Kim" where Trapper wants to adopt a Korean boy. The only episode in the set I really didn't care for was "The Incubator". But the lack of commercials make these episodes fast moving. I'm looking forward to the next two seasons' publications, when we see the characters mature further, plus see new blood with the arrival of BJ Hunnicutt and Sherman Potter. Hurry up, Fox!!

Summary: Just Great......Again!
Review: When I was growing up MASH just didn't do it for me. I was just to young to grasp all the subtle humor. Now being an adult I cannot pass up a chance to see this masterful classic. I recommend this series to everyone. I only wish that they would make the production of each season a little faster. I want to see it all NOW.

Summary: 5 Stars for Season Two...One Star for Fox
Review: I was thrilled when M*A*S*H season two was FINALLY released. Afterall this season has the classic episode titled "Five O'Clock Charlie". Just like the previous season we get 3 disks with 8 episodes on each disk for a total of the full 24 episode season. (M*A*S*H had 24 episodes per season instead of the normal 13). Other than scene and episode selection you get no special features which is fine and dandy with me since seeing the un-cut episodes of one of the greatest shows of all time is special feature enough. The ONLY problem period is Fox's release schedule. The little piece of paper that the set came with said "Continue Your Collection With Season 3 AVAILABLE WINTER 2003!" 2003? Are they kidding me? I need to get like Father Mulchahy and calm down and pray. But that is an insane amount of time to wait. I could see Winter 2002 but 2003 is just WAY to long for me. Fox needs to get back on track here. At least we can watch M*A*S*H about four hours a day (if you have no life) since its on a lot. I f you are a fan you need to own this set at almost any cost. But if you are an executive of Fox you need to get back on track!
