Rating: Summary: Star Trek, The Avengers, The Prisoner, Dr. Who and now LIS! Review: It is hard not to wax poetic about LIS. What makes it so great?I think that Star Trek, The Avengers, The Prisoner and Dr. Who all share something with Lost in Space and that is a sense of television as theater. These are all minimalist-staged theater dramas where the characters are archetypes. We even see this genius in THE OFFICE today. Less is more. When we see films that are overproduced and TV shows that look like commercials they leave us feeling less magic and even less alive. I could go on, but the best of you get the point. Let's have seasons 2 & 3, please.
Rating: Summary: It doesn't get any better then this. Review: As a real sci-fi fan I have to put Lost in Space right up there with Star Trek and Doctor Who. What memories this brings back. Back to a simpler time when TV was exciting to watch, when you couldn't wait for the next episode. What ever happened to great TV like this? I really feel sorry for kids growing up today, and not having the great programs from the 50's and 60's. I think any one who grew up in that era will absolutely love this DVD set.
Rating: Summary: Brought back memories - what about season 2 & 3??? Review: I sat there watching this reliving my childhood! I hope there are plans to release season 2 & 3!
Rating: Summary: Brings back that warm cozy feeling. Review: [...] I've owned this set since a week after it's release.I simply love it.In fact Im going to go out and by Gilligan's Island 1st season set.The similarities are almost spooky. 3 seasons, the 1st one in B&W,7 people each; 4 men, three women.Niether group gets home. Well, actually the crew of the jupiter 2 does get home in various situations but never in a way that allows them to stay. Don't get me wrong I'm not accusing L I S of being a rip-off.I only mentioned fun coincidences.I have fond memories of when these shows ran back to back in syndication on a local NY station then known as WNEW 5.I have no problems with the b&w presentation because that's the way it was and should be. But the color cover could mislead the potential new fan and anger them into a negative opinion. I HOPE SEASON 2 IS RELEASED IN JUNE AND SEASON 3 IN DECEMBER.OF 2004.
Rating: Summary: My childhood dreams. Review: I ADORED Lost in Space as a kid and am extremely happy to have the first season in a boxed set of DVDs. I look forward to buying the next two seasons. In the 1960s I frequently wondered how the world would be during the time that Lost in Space was situated. I must say I am disappointed with the real world, but having this series on DVD makes me remember just how optimistic I used to be as a child, and how much I looked forward to a future in space. The cases for the DVDs are slimmer, which I feel is great improvement on the design because they take up less room. The quality of the picture is great. All in all, a good product. If you are a Lost in Space fan, please buy this set. You will be delighted.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Review: GREAT DVD! Come on FOX: where's season 2 and 3
Rating: Summary: Not Worth The "Lost Space" In Your Home Review: Only television fans who have cash, time and shelf-space to burn should consider acquiring this boxed set, and only then if they have a strong masochistic streak. How could this series have been so popular? Admittedly, the production values of the DVD boxed set itself are quite high. It's a well-made and attractive set. But the show itself is nearly unwatchable. The first few episodes are so sluggishly paced and woodenly acted, with such protracted pauses in the dialogue, that they seem endless even without the commercials. A big disappointment. What promised to be a nostalgic and campy pleasure turned out to be a tedious waste. I have been unable to bring myself to watch the entire set; I can but hope the later episodes were an improvement.
Rating: Summary: Blast from the Past Review: I've watched all but the last disc and now I'm wondering when Season Two will be available! Watching these episodes took me back to when I was a kid and used to watch "Lost in Space" in syndication every day after school. This was back in the early seventies, not quite ten years after "LIS" had left prime time. I remember at the time LIS always being compared unfavorably with "Star Trek." While I'm also a Trek fan, LIS is more fantasy-oriented. All right - it can be downright surreal - a flashback to the Pop Art chic of the 1960's. However, that first season - the best in my opinion - was much more a straightforward action/adventure show with a strong, FUNCTIONAL family at its core. There's even a scene where the Robinson's stop to PRAY after eluding a monster! A scene like that would NEVER exist in today's TV landscape. The Robinsons, Major West, the Robot and, of course, Dr. Smith are such endearing characters, and the cast so winning, that "Lost in Space" is elevated to classic TV. Come on FOX: bring on the colorful (and bizarre) Seasons 2 and 3!!
