Rating: Summary: Just Sit Right Back... Review: I was very pleased with the purchase of this Fantastic Boxed Set. Until now I had only seen the BW episodes cut to around 18 minutes! The set features every episode from the first season and the prints are excellent. The unaired PILOT with audio commentary by Sherwood Schwartz is both entertaining and informative. The banter bewteen The Skipper and Gilligan in Two On A Raft is a pure comic gem, especially when they end up back on the island. I found myself laughing out loud at some the Skipper's reactions to Gilligan's dialogue. I advise anyone who has been a fan of this classic show or is just discovering it for the first time, to add it to your collection. I eagerly await season two, hopefully with some comments from Bob, Dawn or Russell and of course Sherwood!
Rating: Summary: Seven Castaways Look Great on DVD! Review: I viewed the first of three discs of "Gilligan's Island", and the castaways look good on DVD! The pilot episode has a scene featuring Ginger and Bunny (later Mary Ann) doing laundry that's not on the video cassette edition. With the first season in black & white, I can't wait for the other two seasons, which were shot in color, to be released on DVD! I'll bet those color episodes will come through clearly on DVD!
Rating: Summary: good show&concept&still used today Review: the show Survivor is basically a take off from this concept.who would have thought that Giligan's Island would inspire so many knock off concepts&ideas? this show was good for a while&the interesting Personalites they had truly was something different for the time period.
Rating: Summary: amazing show Review: This is one of the best dvd's I have ever seen. I origionally ordered this from netflix. Of coarse I didn't want to buy it. But It was so good that I actually ordered it from amazon. Many of you will be pleased to know that this is in black and white. To tell the truth the special features arn't that good but the rest is great. The dvd's are double sided so the picture is still amazing. The pilot episode is also included in this dvd set and you can watch it with or without the commentary with Sherwood Schwartz. It is instering because ginger, Marryann, and the professor arn't in it. I think that it is good that they got new people to play them but the story line for the pilot episode should have still been used. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC LITTLE BUDDY!! Review: My DVD Boxed Set arrived today. All I can say is congratulations to TPTB for putting out such an excellent product. The shows have been remastered and the video and sound quality is superior in every way!!! And best of all....no cuts.....and all in glorious black and white. Its wonderful to see Gilligan's Island complete without the botched up editing done on television. Its a pleasure to watch such fantastic 'escapism' fare. Those of us who grew up watching Gilligan after school will appreciate this product. And the price is very reasonable. As for extras we got the original pilot episode with the three actors who were the original professor, ginger and Mary Ann (Bunny). Sherwood Shwartz has a commentary along with the episode that is informative and entertaining at the same time. The background info on the castaways and the trivia tidbits are also appreciated. The only thing I didn't like was the cheesy Survivor Guide....I don't know why they didn't have Bob Denver, Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson (and TIna Louise if they could get her....)do tidbits on the show instead of capitalizing on the SURVIVOR craze which in my estimation has always been a 'stupid' show. Why they did this, I cannot imagine. But its an easy thing to overlook. The rest is just fantastic as I said. The package had 3 two sided discs with 7 episodes on each side. The quality is superb!! This is the way to package and put out 1/2 hour series DVDs. Go out and buy this if you're a Gilligan fan. You will not be disappointed. Its a fantastic product. And I understand why Dawn Wells was the cast member who got the most fan mail during the run of the show.
Rating: Summary: Now you can stay on the island as long as you want... Review: No more catching one of TV's most beloved shows whenever it happens to be on. Now you can enjoy the misadventures of the castaways as long as you want and whenever you want. Picture quality is excellent and sound is great. First season is entirely in black and white. Great family series. Kids will love the comic interplay of Skipper and Gilligan. A nice release!
Rating: Summary: Gilligan fans should love this economically priced set Review: As a STAR TREK fan who pays a hundred bucks per season for those DVD sets, I loved being able to get this set for around $25. The episodes have never looked better on my TV and there are a few extras. If you loved the show, this is a good deal, with every first season episode and the original raely seen pilot.
Rating: Summary: Best Escapist Show of All Time! Review: Gilligan's Island isn't shakespeare but it is, in my opinion, the best escapist TV series of all time. There are many reasons why, a few reasons being: 1.) The diversity of the characters and the talents of the actors. For instance, the chemistry between Alex Hale Jr and Bob Denver alone is as strong as you will find in any series. No matter how badly Gilligan messes things up you know that Skipper would never want anything bad to happen to his 'little buddy'. All the other cast members do a great job with their roles in creating likeable people with flaws but not without love for each other. 2.) Almost everyone has thought about what it would be like to be stranded on a deserted island so the show represents a fantasy shared by many. 3.) The way the characters solve problems and cope with each other is an example we all should learn to live by. They are all from different walks of life yet in the end all work towards a common goal: to get off the island as a group. I received the DVDs from amazon.ca today and have to say that I'm very pleased with the package. For those who are concerned about 36 episodes being crammed onto 3 discs, don't worry, the discs are double-sided. Also, the episodes are in the original glorious black and white, not the blotchy peach-faced ones shown on TV most of the time these days. The commentary by Sherwood Schwartz on the pilot episode is very interesting and the optional "Topical Tidbits" popups on episode one are worth a look too, as are the profiles on each of the castaways. The Gilligan's Island Survival Guide is not worth watching at all but, thankfully, it's very short. The only other negative besides this that I can think of is that there are no chapter stops, but with the high quality of the product I can live without them. As to the eternal question Mary Ann or Ginger? My vote will always be Mary Ann as she isn't as shallow as Ginger, is more talented, and is in my opinion more attractive!
Rating: Summary: AHHH....GUILTY PLEASURE! Review: I can't wait for this DVD. Sure, it was silly, unrealistic, had somewhat poor scripts and some less than brilliant acting (did you ever watch Star Trek?! at least Gilligan was intentionally funny)...but that's what makes it the classic it is today. This is one of my favorite guilty pleasures that will be hidden away and brought out when no one else is around...now, if they would only release all 116 episodes of The Brady Bunch...let the legacy of Sherwood Schwartz live on!!!
Rating: Summary: Skipper mc Tweety Review: Buying this = happiness for entire life. It is such a good season on such a good show that even things such as Jak and Daxter for PS2 do not compare to it. Not even blowing off a snails head with a rock launcher (secret code: X,Triangle,Up,Up,Triangle,Left) or scoring a 120 yard run on Madden NFL 2004 for PS1 (it can be done, think about it). I got longest interception return cuz i got it in the back of the endzone and ran it back. It was pretty sweet. But anyways i digress like a dog with antlers from the Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Back to the DVD, its good. . .buy, watch, burn, watch. A three hour tour, a three hour tour.
