Summary: What's on the DVD?
Review: Of course this is a great series. Each episode is great, similar to the craftsmanship of Fawlty Towers. If you haven't seen an episode, try to catch one on PBS.

The DVD has all six episodes from the first season.

Biographies for each of the principle characters, these are static text and a little hard to read in parts.

No other special features. Definitely worth having in your collection though. You can watch these over and over again.

Summary: Brilliant Comedy
Review: Okay I admit I am a sucker for UK comedies and have seen a great many of them. Father Ted is easily amongst the top.

Like many English series Father Ted spends no time setting up the characters or setting and just gets the ball rolling. It is a very farsical and surreal comedy at times which might take some getting used to if you are expecting something more straight forward like a US sitcom.

The cast is brilliant and it is too bad Dermot Morgan died at such a young age. There was at least one more season of Father Ted, before it seem slikely he would have left the series.

The DVD is very barebones and sports no extras like the series 2 and 3 DVD's. No matter this is a must have and a great way to start enjoying this sharply funny UK comedy.

Summary: HIgh point in Britcoms
Review: Others have said it, but I will again--Father Ted is hands down one of the funnier sitcoms to come out of Britain (and definately better than any US sitcom). With the possible exception of Fawlty Towers, this is one of the better ones--high production values, first-rate writing, and cast perfectly.

I only give it four stars because every once in a while one of the shows is a bit off--not that it's not funny, but the writing goes from verbal to physical much too erractically. Prune one or two shows out of the entire series, and this would get 5, easily.

Summary: A Great TV Series Finally on DVD
Review: Positively one of the greatest TV series that I have ever seen. It has a lot of funny moments based around a Catholic priest (Father Ted)in a town on a small island of the coast of Ireland. There are many unexpected twists and turns that are always there for comic relief. Father Ted, Father Doogle, and Father Jack all unknowingly make a mockery of the Church in their attempt to do good. Doogle is undoubtedly the funniest of the bunch, as he is not too bright and you are never quite sure what he is going to say. This is a definite must, especially since the man playing the part of Father Ted died not too long ago, and you might not get another chance to see this great TV series.

Review: Ready to go to "Funland" where you can do some "freak pointing" and see the "spider-baby"? Want to hear Father Stone, once again say - "No, I'm fine thanks"? How about help the Fathers protest a french film and say "Down with this sort of thing" Well, I say "Up with this sort of thing" to the release of Father Ted on DVD! Within the first few moments of the first Father Ted episode I saw on BBC, I knew I would probably be adding it to my collection. It belongs next to other essential BBC comedies like Monty Python, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, and The Young Ones!

This is what you get on Father Ted - Complete Series 1 DVD:
Episodes:
1. Good Luck Father Ted
2. Entertaining Father Stone
3. The Passion of St. Tibulus
4. Competition Time
5. And God Created Woman
6. Grant Unto Him Eternal Rest

Menu options: Play in order, Select an episode, Scene selection, and Cast and Crew Bios. There are really no special features besides the informative bios, but having Father Ted at the push of a button on DVD is special enough for me. God Bless Father Ted! Look out for Season 2 available in March 2002!

Summary: Fr Ted. Words cannot describe it
Review: the funniest TV series I have ever seen. This is what it means to be Irish

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Thank You BBC for bringing this to my attention
Review: This has moved up to being one of the favorite DVD's of my collection! I watched this with my girl friend and we laughed our collective tails off. The next day she told me that her face was still sore from smiling and laughing so much, and I felt it too.

If you enjoy english humor, you will probably enjoy this. This is about 3 priests on one of the coastal areas of Ireland. Father Jack is a blazing alchaholic, Father Doogle is the half witted priest and Father Ted is just trying to keep things sorted out.

My favorite skit is "Good Luck Father Ted", there is a television crew on the island looking to interview Father Ted. The interviewer calls Father Ted and say's, "I'm not sure I'm on the right island", Father Ted's reply is, "Do you see a fellow wearing a shirt that say's I shot J.R.?" I won't tell you any more than that cause I don't want to ruin it for you. Later on in the skit Father Ted and Doogle go to have a tarot card reading but Father Ted doesn't want to do it. Doogle explains that he shouldn't take it seriously, that it's like all those things they learned about Heaven and Hell and eternal life.

I hope I havn't given too much away already...

Summary: Feck, Arse,Drink, Girls
Review: This is the first series of a remarkable collection, Father Jack's words of wisdom makes me laugh everytime i watch this collection. My only problem is that i have seen the original collection when it was first aired on Channel 4 back in 1995, the collection has since been "Americanized". The annoying laughter from a recorded audience annoys me because i watched the series before and thankfully it lacked this "Amercanized" element. If you are new to the Father Ted series then this added feature will not bother you. If you like this background laughter than yes.. this is definitly for you..

Summary: Freak Pointing, Spinning Cat!
Review: We saw an ad for "Father Ted" on the "Coupling" DVD so we had to get it. This is the funniest show I have seen in sometime. The humour in the show is very witty and very well written and the characters really grow on you. Father Jack is the best, I think he is one of the funniest comic characters to come along in some time. I just wonder why I have not heard of this show until now? I guess having BBC America may help? Episode one is great with the Worlds unfunnest fair to the last episode on the disc where Jack dies and leaves a will for Dougal and Ted: Hilarious!!
