Summary: Please bring this out on DVD!
Review: I just ordered 2 sets on VHS and will buy it on DVD when it comes out on that format.

Superb acting, casting, sceenplay, costumes, and photography. It should walk away with numerous awards. I will watch it over and over. Thank you A&E!!!!

Summary: Well made, excellent performances.
Review: I can't wait for the next series. The movie gave me an opportunity to witness what must have been a really sickening life aboard naval ships during that period of time. They really recreated such scenes with true to life details in such a horrible time of war with primitive technology. My salute to all the producer, crew and the actors for such excellent production.

Summary: Swashbuckling Adventure For the Whole Family
Review: This is a wonderful story of heroism and courage. Ioan Gruffud's preformance was absolutly spellbinding. If you enjoyed these movies, try C.S. Forester's novel, Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, it brings the movies to life.

Summary: Exceptional, moving work in a difficult genre to succeed in.
Review: I didn't think it was possible, but this presentation actually looks real -- no stage lighting, no choreographed waves, no scenery chewing. I highly recommend these four movies to anyone who has dreamed of heroism, and the sea. Ioan Gruffud and Robert Lindsay do excellent work. The production design is startling in its historical accuracy and attention to detail. Magnificient effort. Stellar results.

Summary: Worth seeing which ever side of the atlantic you live on
Review: Recommended as a fine TV drama and a fine example on how Tv can occasionally deliver Big Screen entertainment. This has been a hit in the UK. And we get about 1 episode every 3 months in the form of a small film on one of our free TV channels called ITV.

If you like the idea of a fairly accurate historical drama set on the high seas, with huge naval battles and rough and ready sailors and marines eating worm ridden food and fighting for king and country, then order this one today.

Summary: A reason to love history!!
Review: Hip, hip, huzzah! Hip, hip, huzzah! Hip, hip, huzzah! Three cheers for Horatio Hornblower!! As a historical reenactor, I was so pleased to see the details to costume, voice, and manners!! This A&E series is a refreshing ocean breeze. I was swept away and long to go to sea now (although women could not at that time)! Gruffud and Lindsay were a wonderful team and A&E should consider another series of episodes soon!

Summary: Fantsatic,picturesque,romantic and informative
Review: This story was great entertainment and fun to watch. Thescenery and great ships added to the realistc sense of the story. It has certainlypeaked my interest to learn more about the history of these times. The acting was well done and the ocean scenes awesome!

Summary: Excellence all around!
Review: My childhood hero come to "life" at last. Ioan Gruffudd IS Horatio Hornblower.

The talent, both before and behind the cameras, is unsurpassed. I saw no anachronisms, no obvious errors in costume or mannerisms, and could not tell at all when the computer images were on screen. It was so realistic I became totally lost in the story.

Robert Lindsey is the perfect Captain Pellew. Ioan Gruffudd is that rare talent that can so completely become the character that he clearly has a magnificent future--not to mention his lovely musical voice, which will only grow richer as he gets older.

Movie makers, whether for the big screen or television, would do well to use this series as an object lesson in excellence.

Let us all hope they will eventually film the entire Hornblower saga.

Summary: Fabulous!! More Please!!
Review: This series was one of the best things we have ever seen on TV. A&E did a fantastic job, making a lush production of these rollicking adventure stories. It's one of those you can watch over and over again, noticing details like the worn gold braid on Captain Pellew's hat and the hempen mops the crew uses to swab the deck. Ioan Gruffudd is the handsomest new actor in quite a while, and we're looking forward to seeing him in more things. Robert Lindsay was marvellous as Captain Pellew, and the developing relationship between the captain and Horatio was fascinating. We dearly hope that A&E will see fit to film more of them; after all they built the darn ship!!

Summary: I thought it was a wonderful series!!!
Review: We even skipped 60 minutes to watch all of these shows. I am getting this series for our grandson so that he will know what a real hero is, and that it is not necessary to shoot everyone in sight to become someone of value! Lotus McCart, Carmichael
