Summary: Better and Better!
Review: The SIMPSONS have enjoyed a very long run that shows no signs of slowing! And while the release of these DVD sets seems slow they are always of the highest quality. By now you know if you like the show, so I will avoid the season itself! It was very good by the way, and includes many many episodes you have to own! They have simplified the menus a little this time around. Gone are the gimmicky action screens that made SEASON TWO hard to navigate. But it seems a little stark with just black backgrounds on any menus away from the main one. The commentaries include THE CAST this time around. Nice to hear their take on this season! And the more people in the studio the better! The commentaries are livlier and funnier than ever! Kudos! The sound and visuals are breathtaking and well done. This show has never looked better on DVD! They really care about quality with these releases. They are worth it! Very poignant these days is the season opener with Michael Jackson! It's fun to hear the stories of how Michael was to work with as one of the first heavy heavy hitters to make a cameo on the show!

Summary: Many good reasons to get Season 3
Review: I originally didn't think I'd be buying boxed sets of <i>The Simpsons</i> until we got to Season 4, because I can hardly stand to watch the older episodes on syndication -- the animation is too crude, the jokes aren't quite as funny, the voices aren't quite right, Homer's not dumb enough -- but once I saw the full episode listing, I knew that I had to get Season 3. Some of my favorite Simpsons moments and lines are on this set; Homer's chocolate town fantasy on "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk," the hilarious "Sending Our Love Down the Well" celebrity benefit song in "Radio Bart," Troy McClure's narration for the "state's only two-star health resort," Rancho Relaxo promotional video in "Homer Alone," hilarious educational films ("A World Without Zinc" and the infamous one where Fuzzy Bunny hits puberty and gets married), Homer's _2001_-inspired vibrating chair trip in "Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes," the series of misfortunes that befall major league baseball players in "Homer at the Bat" and the entire episode of "Colonel Homer" (with the very popular Homer-ism, "It takes two to lie; one to lie and one to listen.") This is the season where Homer begins to take odd jobs outside the plant, where Sideshow Bob starts his cycle of recidivism, and Marge first uses the "Your childhood dream was to... and you did that..." setup. Homer gets dumber (and funnier), the storylines veer more towards the absurd, more "freeze-frame" jokes pop up, and the animation begins to get better, so much so that I've kind of taken it for granted over the years. If you're a Simpsons fan, the above has no doubt reminded you of other things in those episodes you'd love. This is a great season, even if it's not the Simpsons at their best, therefore I'd recommend this set -- plus you get to see these episodes uncut, without commercials. Admittedly, the special features aren't very exciting, although I do personally like all of the commentary tracks from Matt Groening et al. "Colonel Homer" has a fun Pop-Up Video style feature that you can take or leave, but I liked it and I kind of wish was available with at least a few more episodes here. Also, it may take you a few times to figure out how to properly fold the case so it fits back in the box again.

Summary: Simpsons Season 3!
Review: The Simpsons Season 3 is the best DVD yet. It has all twenty - four episodes, including commentary for each one. This is when the show really started to get good. Some episodes featured in this DVD are STARK RAVING DAD, HOMER DEFINED, TREEHOUSE OF HORROR II, FLAMING MOE'S, and HOMER AT THE BAT. I would recommend this DVD boxed set to any Simpsons fan. As Matt Groening wrote in his introduction on the inside of the box, "I actually thimk this makes Season 2 look like Season 1."

Review: This is the simpons at htere best. they go bad when they get up to the later years. the earlier seasons are the ones you wanna get on dvd. i think the later years got to bloddy and not funny. humor is what is important, not blood and gore, at least i don't think so. there are alot of great episodes on these four dvds, and all of them are worth watching over and over again. if you are a fan of the simpsons, than DUH your gonna get the dvds. do i recommend them!

Summary: Season 3 is best (so far)
Review: Season three is my favorite. From a technical side, the animators and voice actors have mastered their crafts. In terms of the writing, the episodes in season three have the richness of the first two seasons, and are still based in quasi-reality (e.g. Homer still goes to work). The later seasons are great -- still the best thing on TV, but they have come to rely more on quick visual edits, and gags with little set-up; I think the show reached its zenith in season three. Of course, the extras are always great. Enjoy!

Review: The reviewer for Amazon.com said this DVD demonstrates why the Simpsons are "by a large margin" the best television show ever. He is wrong. While the Simpsons were great, it can't compare to Seinfeld. Seinfeld was the perfect sitcom, there will never be anything like it again. And unlike the Simpsons, the brains behind Seinfeld knew when to quit. But the Simpsons were still a great show and this DVD showcasing their glory years is a great buy.

Summary: Artful, dense comedy at its best!
Review: With great episodes like "Bart's Friend Falls in Love" and "Saturdays of Thunder" this set is a must-have for all Simpsons fans. The first several seasons of The Simpsons are so densely packed with sight and verbal gags that it rivals early Mystery Science Theater 3000, only in this case the barrage of jokes are packed into about 22 minutes. The incisive wit aimed at the absurdity of the behavior of the average human never lets up and you will laugh out loud watching these repeatedly. The extra features like the commentary by the people behind the show are fun, but if recording these comments is the reason that Fox is only releasing one season per year on DVD, then I could live without them. Which brings me to this question: why is Fox Video releasing only one season of this show per year? This is one case where the studio's greed would be welcomed if they would release a season every couple months like Paramount did with Star Trek TNG. The prospect of having to wait years to be able to buy up to seasons six, seven and beyond is mystifying and annoying. One other thing, please Fox Video, please include ALL of the Tracy Ullman Simpsons shorts as an extra feature on the next set released. Now THAT would be an extra feature worth having (as opposed to clips of the Simpsons balloons in the Thanksgiving parade as were included in this set).

Summary: Great buy for even a casual fan
Review: It is in this season that we get to see why the Simpsons has lasted as long as it has.
The first season gave us catch phrases, as well as simple jokes that didn't have the depth of character that is now presented in this third season. By this time, we are getting to really know the characters for who they are, and the writers are able to give them nuance and depth that is rarely found in any television comedy.
Seasons one and two are interesting and fun in their own ways, but are more for a collector interested in getting their hands on every single episode. This third season, however, has so many good episodes I recommend it for even a casual fan. The audio commentaries are even interesting! (Unlike many movies, where the commentaries are quite boring. A few notable exceptions include UHF and This Is Spinal Tap, where the commentaries are just awesome!)
And at around $34 you're getting a good price too. Pick this one up and enjoy!
