Rating: Summary: FINALLY!!!!! Review: All I can say about the release of this classic is..."IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!" I saw these 13 Season 1 episodes in syndication back in 1988, and even then they were already edited for more commercial time. I will finally be able to hear what "Santa Claus" said to Michael J. Fox before he replied "I ain't angry." in episode 2, "Santa Goes Downtown.", as well as see all of the other cut footage from the other 12 episodes. I've been waiting for this for years, so you all know where I'll be on February 8th! Great going, Warner! It's definitely better late than never! I think there are even going to be some special features included with this set, even some commentary. It's hard to believe this show is 21 years old already, but if you've missed seeing it all these years or have not seen the complete versions of these oldest episodes, this season set is the perfect ticket. Please support it so Warner will get to work releasing further seasons. You can't miss with this one!
Rating: Summary: At Last! Review: I am so excited about this release, Night Court is one of my all time favorite Comedies, and have been searching for two years for any signs of its release. I can't wait :-)
The antics of Harry and the gang are some of the most hilarious moments captured in the history of Sit-Coms. Campy at times, dramatic and touching at others, but almost always memorable.
Thank you for releasing it at last, It could only be better if they would opted to release the entire series at once, I would definately get it.
Rating: Summary: Still Very Funny!!! Review: I Have Always Found This Show To Be Very Funny!! Richard Moll Is Wonderful In His Role As BULL, He Is One of Those Great Actors Who Can Make You Laugh With Just A Look!!! As For The DVDs Themselves...The Picture Looks Terrific, Better Than The Reruns I've Watched!! The Audio Is Clear Even If It Is Mono!! The Extras Are O.K.!!!! I Can't Wait For The Other Seasons As The Show Just Kept Getting Better!!!
Rating: Summary: Its about DAMN time.... Review: I lied, I havent seen this yet..but then again neither has anyone else because it hasnt been released yet. But every single time Ive seen an episode Ive had to tape it. This was probably the best show from the 80's...but then again I cant remember much that came from the 80's right now anyway...
Rating: Summary: The show was vulger and not funny Review: I really could not stand this show with it;s bad casting and terrible writing. It's DVD release is not needed.
Rating: Summary: It's About Bloody Time Review: I've been waiting for this show for years, i love it to pieces. (NOW TAKE NOTE), Hurry up and release NEWHART, WINGS & WKRP, to make my life complete. Bode well my American friends.
Rating: Summary: A classic series Review: Night Court is comedy at it's best. The characters are very well thought out and the actors play them superbly. You have Dan, the womanizing prosecutor. John Larroquette plays him masterfully. Judge Harry Stone, who loves to play practical jokes in his spare time. Harry Anderson does a terrific job portraying him. The writers of the show always found new and funny plots throughout the life of the show. The result is a half hour of hilarity. Definitely a must buy for anyone
Rating: Summary: Funniest sitcom EVER Review: Night Court is the only comedy series that I can watch ad nauseaum and never grow tired of! I anticipate every word, gesture and reaction from the characters, but I still laugh loudly and repeatedly. I think Night Court is highly underrated by critics. That show was not afraid to unapologetically push the envelope, without pretending that the scene was just a dream sequence (one ep had Harry chastising the Coyote for his obsession with the Road Runner; yes, the cartoon characters were standing in the courtroom). This inspired lunacy is why I'll purchase this entire series (even the later, not so good eps) and will laugh along with my husband and teenaged children.
Rating: Summary: Very Underrated 80's TV Show Review: Night Court was a part of NBC's all-powerful Thursday Night lineup in the 1980's and early 90's that featured such long time running shows as "The Cosby Show" and "Cheers". One could argue that Night Court benefitted from having been surrounded by so many great shows but it did survive for 9 years and remained in the Nielson Top 30 ratings for five straight seasons before beginning it's decline.
The show took place almost entirely within the confines of a NY city night court presided over by Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson). He's joined by prosecutor Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) Baliff Bull Shannon (Richard Moll), Court Clerk Mac (Charles Robinson) Baliff Selma (Selma Diamond) and defender Billie Young (Ellen Foley). Foley was the weakest member of the cast and thankfully lasted only the first season and would be replaced by Markie Post in Season two.
Each week a new set of crazies and small-time crooks would be brought before Judge Stone to have their case argued. The standard penalty always seemed to be a "$50 fine and time served!" This was a show not unlike Barney Miller of the 1970's that featured an ensemble cast joined each week by a new group of screwballs, often played by guest stars such as John Astin, Carl Ballantine, and Harold Gould.
While the humor in Night Court was decidedly low-brow and often crude, particularly as it related to the lecherous Dan Fielding, there's little doubt that of all NBC's Thursday comedies this was the one that usually had the most belly laughs. Notable season one episodes:
"Santa Goes Downtown" The season is merry as Harry deals with a man in a red suit charged with trespassing and tries to restore the faith of a pair of cynical teenage runaways.
"The Eye of the Beholder" - The gang tries to pull Bull out of the dumps when he's turned down by a charitable organization because his size and appearance are intimidating to others.
"Once in Love with Harry" Dan Feilding loses in his bid for city council to a dead man!
"Hi Honey, I'm Home" - Harry has to settle the legal status of a woman who remarried after her first husband was mistakenly declared dead, and who wants her back.
While Season One was a good kickoff to the series it really would not hit its stride until Post came on board during season two as she seemed to have much better chemistry with the rest of the cast than Foley did. Not much in the way of extras. Commentary on the pilot episode and a short documentary.
Rating: Summary: Classic Sitcom comes to DVD! Review: This show was HYSTERICAL! I loved it as a child, particularly the zany antics of Judge Harrold T. Stone, a New York City jurist who had become the youngest of his kind to be appointed to the bench. He was 34 years old, and said he only got the job because he was home on a Sunday afternoon while the outgoing mayor was assigning judges to their posts.
R. "Daniel Fielding" Elmore (see future episode for revelation of his full name) was the sex-obsessed assistant to the district attorney who boasted his 90 percent conviction rate. John Larroquette won four consecutive Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Dan Fielding.
Bull Shannon (Richard Moll) was the dimwitted bailiff who towered over his partner Selma Hacker (Selma Diamond), who sounded like she was choking on a wool sweater. Hilarity ensued when they would try to apprehend a criminal.
As far as other regulars in the series, Charles Robinson, Markie Post, Florence Hallop, and Marsha Warfield were added later in the show as other less successfull players were weeded out. There was Lana, the frazzled court clerk, a string of forgettable public defenders (Ellen Foley, for one), and few other minor players who made the first season a hit.
Be sure to look for Judge Stone's obession with Mel Torme, an old saloon singer who guest starred on a few episodes, calamity and chaos as "Criminal Court Part II is now in session. The Honorable Harrold T. Stone presiding."
I only hope subsequent seasons will be released with a little more fewquency than seasons of Larry Sanders, Dream On, and Cheers! ENJOY!!!
