Summary: It's hardly British...
Review: I have to agree with all of these reviews as regards how funny this series is, but it's hardly correct to call it 'British'. Admittedly, the series was shot and paid for by a UK TV company, but it was created by two Irishmen, was filmed in Ireland (the outdoor bits at least) and the four main characters as well as most of the guest appearances were by Irish comedians/actors. Also, the comedy in it is very 'Irish'. Which, is actually quite close to British humour, but I've had the experience of watching episodes with non-Irish people who laughed at most of the gags, but just didn't 'get' some of the more subtle 'local' humour, while the Irish in the room always did.

Review: i LOVE this DVD, it's one of the best british comedies around. the reason why i like this DVD so much is because it is so outrageously funny. "song for europe", and "the plague" i have to say are the funniest of all, they made me guffaw even though i am a serious minded person that really doesn't laugh at much, especially "song for europe". i highly recommend this DVD, even to the most serious, straight faced person in the world.
P.S. father jack i have to say is the funniest character.

Summary: Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!
Review: If you like Father Ted, this is the 2-DVD set to buy. 10 unbelievably funny episodes starring Dermot Morgan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Frank Kelly, and Pauline McLynn (the aunt in "Angela's Ashes"). With 2 hilarious appearances by Graham Norton. Some highlights are: "The Plague," in which Dougal's black and white bunny multiplies, much to the horror of Bishop Brennan (who fears rabbits due to his unfortunate experience of being trapped in an elevator with several of them); and "Song for Europe," in which Ted and Dougal steal a catchy tune to use with their own lyrics ("My Lovely Horse") in order to win a songwriting contest. Some of the lyrics go like this: "My lovely horse running through the field,
Where are you going, with your fetlocks blowing in the wind,
I want to shower you with sugar lumps, and ride you over fences,
I want to polish your hooves every single day and bring you to the horse dentist." The best part of the episode is Dougal's dream sequence, which shows him with Ted in their very own music video. I'm looking forward to the American release of series three. Tragically, Dermot Morgan, who plays Father Ted, died the day after filming the final episode. He has left a wonderful legacy to the world of comedy.

Review: Just when I'd thought that I would never experience the thrill of an uncontrollable belly laugh again, Father Ted comes along and slays me silly. Irreverent, clever, and utterly orignial, Father Ted will tickle your funny bone bigtime, and what is more, the laughs go up with each viewing, as the absurdity becomes more and more apparent and the myriad of subtle nuances are discerned. If you are uninitiated, then let me enlighten you: The thing about Father Ted and his cohorts are that they are the least committed priests ever, and the episodes are more about their non-priestly impulses and adventures, which Ted is gifted at rationalizing in the name of the Almighty. There is more drinking, swearing and lawbreaking in ths show than can be found on most post-prime time network shows. Yet they look and act like your garden variety loveable priests, and the dichotomy between the appearance and the reality is a HOOT. Think of how fun and ridiculous Black Adder is. Or Ab Fab. Well, Father Ted is totally right up there, with a charmingly Irish, parochial twist.

Review: Season Two and Father Ted had really found it's form. Extended to a then-pretty-much-unheard-of 10 episodes in one season this truly is pure comedy gold. Without toning down the surreal side one iota the writers managed to drag a comedy about 3 crazy priests on a remote Irish island onto mainstream T.V. and into the hearts of everyone who saw it. The running jokes are by now well established (telephone mishaps, "the (fillinblank) priest", Dougal being on another planet, Father Jack's obsessions with Drink, Girls, Feck and Arse) and the plots zing along much faster than the first season.
For me the highlights have to be "The Plague" with all the cute bunny rabbits offset by the image of a naked, drooling Father Jack sleepwalking, and then Dougal trying to make small talk with the Sinead O'Connor figure - "Are you comfortable? Are you wearing a bra? Is your bra comfortable? Why don't you take it off?"
Apparently applications to join the priesthood actually increased in the years after Father Ted came out, as it showed that normal people could become priests too. So anyone who says that this trivializes and ridicules religion can just "Feck off!".

Review: So I started watching Father Ted on insomniac Saturday nights here in New Jersey. I decided after the third time I caught it that I wanted to get the complete DVD set. Have not been disappointed so far(except one episode that started great with 8 priests in a lingerie section of a department store). Overall I really enjoy this show and I am sad that Dermot Morgan died after the third season. This was a very funny show and Father Jack Hackett of course... is who I want to be when I grow up...

Summary: Just gets better!
Review: This is even better than the first season. The characters are more developed and the stories get more absurd. Every episode is great and my side hurts every time from laughing. Sometimes the humor is predictable but in a good way, it is like I think I know what is next, but when you are right it is really funny because what you or I may think is acutally pretty twisted and they think it too. Classic comedy, season 3 on its way soon. Drink, Girls, Arse, Feck!!
