Summary: Love the show..
Review: I used to dislike the show at first, but then I warmed up to it. The premiere is good..but my question is, where's the box set?? I want more than one episode!!

Summary: Well blended cast and great script
Review: I was really impressed with this Premiere Episode of "Monk". Of course, the lead character is played so well by Tony Shalhoub, but it takes more than that to make a premiere interesting enough to run as a TV series for another two seasons. The three main supporting characters are wonderfully written in the script and played to perfection by the actors. Every time I watch this premiere, I think I have a different favorite supporting character. I can't wait for the DVD to be released with the season episodes from season one and two. I think I like it so much because it's very different from all the rest of what's on TV these days.

Summary: Crimefighter with a difference
Review: It's high time Tony Shaloub made it big. His role as unhinged-movie-producer-from-hell in the Coen brothers' movie Barton Fink was exhilarating. As was his performance as superlawyer in The Man Who Wasn't There (the Coens certainly know talent when they see it).
The only negative thing that can be said about Monk is that it's long overdue. The writing's good. It's very good actually. But some episodes are better than others. In Monk Meets Dale the Whale, for example, the dialogue is badly dubbed and the continuity is choppy and hiccupy. The storylines are mostly standard TV show plots, some even seem recycled from old episodes of Streets of San Francisco or Scooby Doo. So you shouldn't watch Monk for the ingenious plots - it's Monk's phobia-intensive behaviour and case-solving talent that we're after. Well, that and Sharona's great legs. And the theme tune is great. I sure hope those two get it together at the end; Sharona has appalling taste in men.

Summary: Included in Season One -- Buy It Instead
Review: Monk is a fresh and intriging new dectective series. Complex enough to entertain brainy adults and yet clean enough for the kids to watch. I DON'T recommend buying this DVD, however, because this show is the first 2 episodes in Season One, which is currently available. This is one of the season's finest episodes (my second favorite is Monk and the Airplane -- the series finale), but is a pricey way to get just one (ok techincally 2) episodes.

Summary: Monk, are they trying to lose us?
Review: The premier episode of Monk is quite excellent. I was told of the series by a close friend who suggested I was a similar personality (a much diluted version, I trust!) so I sent off for the pilot with much interest. It is quite fascinating and very amusing (I can anticipate most of his moves - and in that sense each quirk seems a little too obvious. But that might just be my problem). I get the feeling the production team were so intent on squeezing every possible aspect of Monk's personality disorder into the film (He is drawn as a case in-extremis) that they left very little, if anything new to unfold if the market research results suggested they had a viable series. So it worked. There is a series, and very successful, with a horde of enthusiastic fans. But for heavens sakes, how long do we have to wait before the first series is available for those of us who cannot watch it on the box at home? For those living overseas, as I do, it is very frustrating not only to have to wait, but to have no idea whether, hopefully when, the series starts to emerge on DVD.

Summary: Monk - the complete first season
Review: Today, 19th January, 2004, and I see an ad in Vanity fair that announces "Monk - the complete first season now available on DVD". But not at Amazon.com. The computer simply rejects the request with alternative offerings, like "Friends - the complete first season". Not even an opportunity to place a forward order...
