Summary: A Failure of Epic Proportions. 1 Star Too Many.
Review: Man, us REAL Kevin Smith fans are Sure being Tested as to how much Torture we can stand. Anyone who has laid eyes on the Modern Masterpiece "Clerks" Knows that Smith has more Talent that he knows what to Do with, which seems to be the Big Problem, he doesn't know What To Do with his Talents. This Short-Lived Series is Iron-Clad Proof of that."Clerks" and "Chasing Amy" are Classics, there is No Denying that. "Dogma" and "Mallrats" are Cult Classics with Mixed Reviews, and now we have "Clerks - the Animated Series", which Premiered in Australia at 5:00 AM and lasted for 4 weeks. If I were a TV Executive given the Daunting Task of assigning this series a timeslot, I'd put it on at 3:00 AM and I'd Hope and Prey that it never sees the light of day... Ok, I'm Exaggerating, but it is a Poorly Conceived Series, and the fact that it is a Spin-off of one of my Favourite films Ever makes me Physically Ill. For Anyone who is Unfamiliar with Smiths work... Think of "Casablanca" and Imagine a Colorized Sequel that gets Bogart and Bergman Together and has them making Stupid Wisecracks for an Hour and a Half. The Horror your currently experiencing doesn't come Close to matting mine. Smith has Defaced his "Citizen Kane", his First and Best Picture, he has Truly created a Monster. Real Smith fans (not you In Denial "Mallrats" fans) should Steer Clear at All Costs, unless you feel like Losing your Faith.

Summary: So Funny ABC Forgot to Laugh...
Review: I don't know what was up the butts of the network people at ABC, because this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. One of the cartoons made me hyperventilate. I admit, I'm biased. I think Kevin Smith is a Genius, I love all his work, but do yourself a favor: be a kid and buy a DVD full of cartoons. Watch it one day when you're home sick from work. You'll have to take an extra day off while your ribs heal.

Review: I was like many people who missed this series when it was on the first time. I love all of Smith's movies and really looked forward to this series to bad I blinked when it was on for two weeks last year. ABC/Disney messed up big time when they cancelled this incredibly smart and funny series. While it's incredibly toned down compared to the movie it des prove Smith can be funny without vulgarity. This DVd has all the episodes made (including the 4 not aired) and tons of extra. As always like all of Smith's DVD's it includs hillarious comentary from all involved. Nothing is better than the flower pot gag! Go buy this now!

Review: When I turned on my TV that faithfull March evening last year, I tuned in to ABC and stumbled upon Clerks the animated series for the first time. I have to admit, at the time I did'nt know what the heck it was, but I did'nt change the channel and man, I was'nt disapointed. The episode I saw was in fact the second one they ever aired. It had a premise that had been done so many times before (with the characters flashing back to older episodes) and yet it was one of the most entertaing shows I ever watched. I remember laughing to myself later that evening. Later on I found out about the whole Kevin Smith Library of movies and such and I quite enjoyed them all. If you liked the movie Clerks then you will love these shows. They are cleaned up mis adventures of Donte, Randal and of course Jay and Silent Bob. Every episode is packed with huge laughs and exeptional comedic writing. After viewing these episodes it occured to me, why did ABC cancel this show? Anyway if you are thinking that too don't worry because this 2 disc DVD set has it all. The episodes, animatics commentary and some hilarious trailors to watch. also some really cool DVD ROM features too. I took off a star only because I found one of the episodes just a bit weak. I won't tell you which one. However wheather you're a hardcore Kevin Smith fan, or just looking for a collection of really funny cartoons to add to your DVD library pick this anthology up. You wont be disapointed!

Summary: Idiot networks
Review: These cartoons really make me hate the major networks. The six episodes on this DVD are all quite original, very funny, and just very well done. The really sad thing is that there are only six episodes. Most cartoon series get better after a couple of dozen shows, since most need an opportunity to evolve and develop. These, unfortunately, are frozen permanently in their semi-embryo state. They are very fine just as they are, but if everyone involved with the project had been give more time, there is no telling how good it might have become. Cutting to the chase, absolutely anyone who likes either the movie CLERKS, cartoons that are not for kids, or Kevin Smith's projects will like these cartoons. A lot. And for Kevin Smith's fans, there are also on the DVD (not certain about the video) introductions to each episode by Jay and Silent Bob. I thought they were a very nice addition to the DVD. Alec Baldwin did the voice for Leonardo Leonardo, and this reminded me of the novelty song that came out a few years ago: "Elvis is Everywhere." Well, sometimes these days it seems that Alec Baldwin is everywhere. He is in regular mainstream movies. He is doing voiceovers on cartoons (here, and also on the forthcoming FINAL FANTASY movie and the computer animated CATS AND DOGS). Last summer my ex-girlfriend and I took her son to THOMAS THE MAGICAL TANK ENGINE, and Lo! and Behold! Alec Baldwin played the conductor. And he does the narration for some of the Thomas videos. In addition, a couple of times I turned on late night shows, and there he was. I tell you, Alec Baldwin is everywhere!

Review: One reviewer made reference to the show's "Final Episode" where a character at a ComicCon asks Dante and Randall how little they sold out for. The reviewer also goes on to mention how it's little retribution for being made to watch this junk. And the reviewer would be absolutely CORRECT. My brother got this DVD-set for his birthday and I looked forward to seeing it because at the time, it was constantly rented out at the video store. When he surprised me with it, I immediately popped it in and was ready and waiting to laugh...I'm still ready and waiting. This is the FIRST Smith work that I actually SHUT OFF in the middle just because I thought it sucked. Don't get me wrong, the animation is great. I got a small preview when I read the Clerks comics, a showcase of witty writing and wonderful art...the show has the latter and ONLY the latter. The two discs contain six episodes: 1) Some guy named Leonardo Leonardo comes into town and decides to go on a mission to take over the Quickee Stop market. Honestly, who cares? References to BATMAN and the overcommercialization of Starbucks Coffee(a theme DONE TO DEATH) and Way over-played. Oh, there's a bunch of gay-references. Also, Randall says that the show is "taped before a live studio-audience". I know that's untrue, but after the first episode, I actually BELIEVED it. Why? NOBODY WAS LAUGHING. The beginning of the episode is hysterical. Too bad the series couldn't be more LIKE THAT. 2) Dante and Randall get trapped in a freezer and then talk about old times. This doesn't even come CLOSE to working. This parodies old sitcoms. Oh...gay-references are here as well. Dante's need to "make more Star Wars references" to stay warm is a quick indication of the lack of ANY creativity on the show. 3) A repeat of OUTBREAK. Only this time, it's supposed to be funny. And Patrick Swayze runs the pet shop across the way. Oh yeah, and he sounds like Gibert Godfreid. Oh, and James Woods is the main scientist. Oh, and there's some gay-references. 4) Randall as a lawyer in a lawsuit. Count how many pop-cult references fall in here and you'll win a toaster-oven and a life-time supply of Turtle Wax. And what's with the recurring theme with BASKETBALL? I thought Kevin Smith's favorite sport was HOCKEY!!! And I'm sorry to disagree with some of you. The Japanimation part is WAY too random and an excuse to cover up for lack of an actual ENDING. It's also VERY unfunny. Smith seems five years late for the prom thanks to South Park already COVERING Japanimation in the episode called, "CHINPOKOMON". 5) A completely RANDOM episode that rips off INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, THE BAD NEWS BEARS, STAR WARS...oh, Leonardo denies doing anything with Dante during a drunken stupor. Gay joke number 43,255. 6) The self-titled "Very Last Episode". It works UNTIL they go into "The Matrix". You would think the writers learned after five dumb episodes. After THE MATRIX, we're treated(if you can call it that; I call it "subjected to") to five minutes of RANDOMNESS. You know, I like randomness, but this isn't GOOD random. It's BAD random...and the FINAL set of gay references. Oh, and it's Soccer this time that gets the spotlight. Hard to believe that Batman Animated Series writer Paul Dini was part of this. Oh, the sets with Jay and Silent Bob are unneccessary. Especially when Jay goes on a swearing rant just because he thinks the audience won't be impressed with a cuss-free show. Come on, Kevin. You're BETTER than this. By the way, if Disney screwed you on DOGMA, WHY would you go back and make your series with them? Are you ASKING for a beating? People who compare this to the Simpsons, South Park, or even THE CRITIC need to have their heads examined. All three of those shows are sharp, witty, original, tell a straight story, and don't rely HEAVILY on other shows/comics/movies/books/random media to get through an episode... I beg ANY network to proceed with caution if they so decide to pick this series up. You'll be lowering your ratings and allowing THE SIMPSONS to stomp a mudhole in you. Rest in Peace, CLERKS.

Review: This colecction of cartoons are very very funy. ABC must really have something agaisnt pure fun! they get - points for cancellign this great series, wich when you take a look here, was getting better with every episode! The fist two are okay! but the last four are so funny! If you are in any ways fan of "crtical pardoy cartoons" (simpsons, futurama, freakazoid) you will like this a lot. Check out episode FOUR! If you are a Smith fan, you will get a nice cameo from Jay and Silent Bob. And is a cool departure form his humor. It is a pity we have only six of these, because they were getting better...wehn you see this you wil be thinking how cool episode 17 was going to be...

Review: i bought this dvd saturday. i returned it sunday. it is, without a doubt, the worst thing i have ever seen. from random-in-a-bad-way storylines to characters obviously inserted by network people (come on, leonardo leonardo the evil megalomaniac?) to censorship (how ironic, considering the title of the series), this series sucks. the one saving grace came in the last episode, when randall and dante are at a comicon, and fans ask them questions like "so exactly how little did you sell out for?" small compensation for the three hours of my life that are gone beyond recall. i got my money back, but the wasted time can never be returned.

Summary: Good, but not as good
Review: I would still suggest that you own this one for the occasional viddy. So much contrast are the reviews of this set from fans and non-fans alike. I guess I'm in the middle. While a lot of the episodes seem to be just filling time there are quite a few light spots that make drudging through the episode worthwile, especially for some safety/amusement tips by Jay and Silent Bob at the end of a few episodes (a la G.I. Joe and "Knowing is half the battle"). The episode where Dante and Randal get stuck in the freezer could have easily been left out, you may want to skip to the end of that one. An amusing recurring character, Leonardo Leonardo, the Clerks arch-nemesis, is voice-acted by Alec Baldwin. Other celebrities are mostly impersonated. You want to see a funny episode? Be sure to watch the one when Dante gets taken to court presided by Judge Reinhold (yes, the actor). The end of that episode left me gasping for air last time I saw it, but I'll let you find out why. The pre-episode banter with Jay and Bob is great, especially when Jay adds a few words that were supposedly "omitted" from the series.
