Summary: Low brow humor made for network TV
Review: I never got the chance to see any of the Clerks animated series when it had it's short span on TV, so I figured why not and bought this DVD set. Here you get both the episodes that aired on ABC, plus four more and some special features. Kevin Smith manages to pull out a lot of the snappy dialogue that made the Clerks movie pack so much punch, but in the end network censorship had the last laugh, and there are times when some parts are just plain dull. On the plus side, Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson reprise their roles from the movie, as does Smith and Jason Mewes, and a host of celebrity voiceovers from Alec Baldwin, Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, Grant Hill, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Michael McKean among others. All in all, this is a great collection, and the commentaries from Smith and co. are worth the price alone.

Summary: Not Even Funny as expected! Uncensored??
Review: I was very disappointed! I thought beacuse the cartoon video was uncensored, it would have foul language like the original movie.
This animated video has 5 or 6 episodes. The dialog chosen was most of the time [bad]. I really expected a lot more! Could have been great if a script closer to the movie materialized.
The only thing I found funny was when the Kevin and Silent Bob guys talked in between and used F words and this was the funny part. Don't expect this to be like the movie. However, if you are a diehard fan, get this video anyway.

Summary: snootch to the animated nootch
Review: Being a kevin smith fan and one of the only people to see the 2 episodes abc broadcasted (which I liked both) I got this. I wasn't disapointed at all and this shows that kevin smith can still be funny with network restricions (unlike the TV version of mallrats) by using places and things you could only do with an animated series (or high budget). There a a little bit of extra stuff which kinda makes sense since only 2 episodes were shown but that doesn't mean the extras aren't good (cause they are). Some of the great stuff is the introductions by Jay and silent bob (in live action no less) with Jays comments on not being able to curse on TV being the funniest. The commentary is both funny, entertainig and educational on the making of the show. The last add ons being story board pics with sound and a making of (well kinda), so special features go from good to weak but I still recomend this.

Summary: A hilarious and insightful DVD
Review: It's amazing that prime-time [stuff] like Family Guy manages to last several seasons, yet something different, bold, and lateral gets quashed. The highlight of the Clerks animated series DVD is the commentary by Kevin Smith, Brian O'Halloran, and a slew of people involved in the production. They basically tell about how they got shafted by ABC and fawn over their ill-fated cartoon.

That being said, the episodes themselves are well-done, in a real comic-book style. The artists involved had a great sense of color, and the animation is crisply drawn. The pilot episode is a definite low point (and Smith says so), but after that they get into a groove. Episode Four (the first one they showed on ABC) is the funniest one in the series, especially the truly inspired ending.

Clerks TAS was a breath of fresh air in a stale lineup of lookalike cartoon comedies. Too bad ABC killed it as a fetus.

Summary: A Simply Must buy for any View Askew Fan
Review: If you liked any other View Askew movies and are looking at this review, stop reading this and buy this DVD right now. This show might not be as good as other cartoons on TV right now, but it is great for what it is. Only two of these episodes ever hit the air and I scratch my head why. If you listen to the very funny commentary track included on every episdoe, Smith and his friends (including Scott Mositer, Dave Mandel, Chris Bailey, Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson and Jason Mewes) discuss how this show was cut from television, as well as discuss how they ended up signing with ABC instead of UPN, and later regretted it.

This show is extremely funny to any View Askew fan. Please, buy this and show support for the upcoming full length movie sequel to this coming to teathers in a year or so.

Summary: Enjoyable but not groundbreaking.
Review: I thought this was a great idea, and the look of these six animated episodes is perfect: The character design is especially spot-on, capturing the essence of the original Clerks characters beautifully. And I did get a substantial number of laughs while watching this two-disc set -- far more than from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Kevin Smith's latest film.

If I have any gripes about this set, it's the lack of coherent structure. Stories appear and disappear disorientingly; some good comic devices get beaten to death (eg. the "dream sequences" in Episode 4, the "flashbacks" in Episode 2); and the all-too-frequent pop-culture references get tiring. That said, the spirit is irrepressible, the voice work highly entertaining, and it wasn't greatly hurt by the fact that the very profane language of the original Clerks had to be cleaned up (relatively speaking) for the TV medium.

Definitely worth a look for Kevin Smith fans.

Summary: The Funniest Animated Show I've Ever Seen
Review: Im not lying. This show is incredible. I can't stand the fact that this show only lasted for two episodes on television. This show is funnier than Simpsons and Family Guy. Now thats saying something.

Episode 1 (B): The great Leonardo Leonardo returns to Leonardo. When he opens up a new shop across from the Quick Stop, Dante and Randal must find a way to save their business. Meanwhile, Jay and Silent Bob sell M-80s.

Episode 2 (A): When Dante installs new locks on the Quick Stop, he and Randal become stuck in small places. Time for cool flashbacks.

Episode 3 (B+): When a new pet store opens up on the Quick Stop's block, Randal starts going nuts over Outbreak. Meanwhile, Jay and Silent Bob train a pet monkey.

Episode 4 (A-): Jay slips on some soda at the Quick Stop and sues Dante for 10 million dollars. Also, special Japanimation ending!

Episode 5 (B+): Dante gets a chance to coach LL's little league team while Randal become an egyptian slave. Also, Jay gets to play on the team.

Episode 6 (A): Dante and Randal must stay up all night while across the street a fair goes on. Jay and Silent Bob act as Dante and Randals eyes to the fair. Loaded with tons of great gags like Brazilian soccer team canibals, vampires, hookers, pinhead freaks, Dante's cheating girlfriend and wild animals. Whats not to like?

Animatics: Pretty good storyboards of the show even if the audio is a little off key.

Audio Commentary: Perfect. These guys aren't afraid to rip on the "network" that held them back. What fun.

Super Bowl TV Spot: Not all that spectacular, but pretty fun to watch.

Film Festival Trailer: Excellent. The trailer gives off quotes making fun of the show like "I could sh*t a better show".

Character Development: Some cool designs of all the characters. Fun to look at.

Clerks Style: Pretty similar to character development. Some good sketches though.

Overall, if you haven't seen this show and you are a big fan of Family Guy or the Simpons, get this now! You won't regret it. Snootch to the nootch!

Summary: Major let down. Save your money for his other movies
Review: Like most people who plan on buying this DVD or already own it, I like Kevin smith. I actually paid to see mallrats on the opening day, granted my brother and I were the only people in the theater. I especially like Clerks the movie, unlike his other movies it didn't have any slow or just outright lame parts. However, the animated series is another entire story. The first episode is so bad they literally have maybe 6 minutes of animation the rest of it is flashing back to those first 6 minutes. There is one episode where they peak in on the writers of the show who are asleep. I have the same feeling how could they turn such fertile ground for a great animated series into something, that just gets worse the further into what minimal plot there is to begin with in each episode.
One episode has Randall asking George Lucas to give him back the 8 dollars he spent on Episode one. I feel like asking Kevin smith to give me back my 20 dollars after buying this DVD.
You'll be disappointed believe me
