Summary: The networks are missing out on a sleeper hit of the century
Review: I never saw Mallrats, Clerks, etc. etc... but the second I saw the preview for this cartoon to hit the networks, I was stoked to watch it. First episode hit. I nearly peed in my pants! They had references to many culture icons (anime, action, randomness, etc.) and they just totally made it into a hilarious type of thing. It's what the Simpsons (during the good seasons, anyway) had established. I was automatically hooked. The following week, episode was just as random and hilarious as the last. Next week, it disapeared. I was a disgruntled viewer. Buy as for the review, this is a definate item to buy considering all the animated episodes will be on these two DVDs in DVD format (cleaner and crisper!) and shouldn't be missed out by any person who likes to laugh. For those who like Simpsons or Futurama, the humor will sit nicely and you'll become a fan very soon. It may be about four main character (one who doesn't talk), and it may seem like a dumb scenerio for a show... but then we think about "Friends" in which it centralizes around 2 apartments and a coffee house... or "3rd Rock From The Sun" which is about a house and the school. Anyway, a great buy for the price. I have no idea why they took it off, but that was a dumb mistake. A collection of these episodes is a great idea to own and watch over and over again. Serious.

Summary: Too Much for the Mouse House Network
Review: You know, I think that Clerks on ABC makes about as much sense as The Sopranos or Tales from the Crypt or Dennis Miller. There are some things that are just too good for network. Kevin Smith should have known better after Disney tried to buffalo Dogma than to trust them to take care of him and his franchise in prime time.

Yes it would have been glorious. Yes it WAS for the brief moment it lasted, but it was doomed. Had it been on HBO or Showtime, perhaps we'd be able to see more episodes. But now, we have to settle for the DVD release.

Kevin Smith combines his uncanny ability to create realistic situations in a cartoon environment with his ability to create a cartoon situations with a realistic environment for a show that recalls the cartoons our generation grew up watching while appealing to our more mature sensibilities. Its great for a fan to finally see Dante and Randall together again at the Quick Stop and to see more of Smith's fictional version of Red Bank, New Jersey. So this series has great promise as a regular fix for our View Askew addiction. I hope it will contain many great extras and supplemental features.

This will be on my shelf as I don't feel my collection is complete until I know the WHOLE Clerks animated story.

Summary: Who's the big man now, ABC?
Review: I have been a Kevin Smith fan ever since "Clerks" came to the cinemas in 1994. I own that and all of the other films. When I heard during last year's superbowl that "Clerks" was going to be an animated series, I could just say that the waiting was the hardest part! When it finally aired on ABC in late May 2000, I was so psyched and I loved the show. I was so p.o'd at ABC for cancelling it though after only 2 episodes. It's really a good idea for Smith to put the episodes on VHS & DVD. In an uncensored version, no less! I can't wait to get it! Good luck, View Askew!

Summary: Finally, all the episodes
Review: With only 2 out of the 6 episodes ever making it to prime time, this series was soon forgotten by many of Americans. Sure the shows did not get great ratings, but the shows were genuinely funny, despite what all the critics had to say. These episodes were greatly unappreciated. They came and went, with the third episode being replaced by a rerun of Spin City. This show had enough material to make a series, and enough jokes to beat a lot of the other crap that is on television now. We finally had an educated television show, with humor that matched, and what does ABC choose to do to all of us loyal Kevin Smith fans, replace it with a show that we do not want to see. TV is so cluttered with the same generic shows that when a real show comes along, it gets lost in the crowd and suffers the same fate that Clerks did. This show deserves another look, and a home in the video or DVD collection of all the smart people who are sick of all the same things that are on TV.

Summary: Right Before They "Strike Back", They Got "Drawn Out"
Review: Oh boy, it's Clerks time again! But this time it looks like they were watching alot of "Superfriends" & "Scooby-Doo" in the process. "Clerks Uncensored" is the doomed ABC animated prime-time series based on the Cannes winning sleeper-hit film of the same name. What is the best thing about this six episode, double-disc set is hard to say. It might be because all four leads from the original film voice the show: Brian O'Halloran & Jeff Anderson as Dante & Randall with Jason Mewes and Clerks creator/overlord Kevin Smith as Jay And Silent Bob (though as usual, Kevin is "Rarely Heard, Often Seen".) Or it could be that these six great shows that they made, only two of them ever actually made it to air! It could be even that the animation is actually pretty top-notch, unlike the countless animated drivel that was on the other networks at the time. I guess it's too bad that there's only these six, it would of being great if the show had more, but the ownership of them is well worth it & it comes with many great DVD extras too. The commentary is once again hilarious, with the "slacker-four" and their producers and director. It's actually a very enlightning "behind-the-scenes" roundtable-like discussion of what to do and not to do when making a cartoon and working with a network at the same time. Also, the DVD comes with two featurettes, two trailers (featuring the Smith beloved "Super Bowl" spot), rough animatics of it's character development, and pretty cool menus to boot. I find myself rewatching it more often than alot of my other DVD's, it has great replay value. So if you're a fan of any of the other View Askew films: Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, or especially the cool and hilarious recent release, Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, you gotta add this to your collection. This is one hellava-toon! So check it out and "Snootch To The Noonch!"......whatever that means.

Summary: Just Buy It Already
Review: Everyone else has written reviews explaining what it is, so I won't. Just scroll down to find out. So if you like what they say, buy it. It is only $10 at Best Buy, and goes great with Clerks the movie.

Summary: Better than the movie.
Review: "Clerks", "Clerks Uncensored", or "Clerks The Animated Series" (what it's widely called), is obviously a take-off from the very popular View Askew film of the same name, only it's animated and lots of things are changed. In some ways, these changes are for the better. In other ways, these changes can be quite annoying or they may not even effect you one bit. I actually watched the "Clerks Uncensored" two-disc DVD set before I even watched the Clerks movie, so I didn't even notice these changes. Anyway, as I've mentioned before in my Clerks the movie review, I just didn't find it to be very funny. The show, on the other hand, was filled with moments that were simply hilarious.

I loved each episode of it and I curse ABC for canceling it after only two episodes. ABC is really the reason why some people didn't like the show. ABC forced the creators to change just about everything that made Clerks what it was. For instance, in the Kevin Smith movies, Jay & Silent Bob are drug dealers, whilst in the show, they are firecracker salesman. Jay & Silent Bob are still pretty funny, but it's weird to see them put in such a ridiculous means of employment.

Overall, I seem to like the show of Clerks better than the movie itself and enjoyed how Charles Barkley was almost in every episode. If you're looking for a show that is just like the movie, you won't find it here. However, if you're looking for a show that is pretty funny and you're open-minded about it, then I'm willing to bet that you'll like this show.

Summary: Clerks makes it's way to cartoon format
Review: The cartoon adaptation of Smith's classic movie "Clerks", may have been short lived, but the six episodes we're left with are nothing less of classic. Follow Dante and Randal into even more obscure adventures than what takes place in the actual film. Be advised there are only six episodes. Only two were ever aired on television. As far as I know there will not be any more. That's not very fair since this cartoon is on par with all of the hit comedies out there like Family Guy, Futurama and The Simpsons. If you're a huge Kevin Smith or Jay and Silent Bob fan, then you should definitely consider picking this up and owning it. It's also got low price tag, so that's a plus (I mean it's only six episodes). Here's a quick run-down of the episodes :

1) "Nothing Exciting Ever Happens" - Business at the Quick Stop is threatened when billionare Leonardo Leonardo opens a quicker stop. Dante and Randal have to stop it.

2) "Trapped" - Dante and Randal get trapped in a freezer at the Quick Stop and remember old times together.

3) "Discreeto Burriots" - Leonardo Leonardo gets a very bad stomach virus and the Quick stop is investigated for foul play.

4) "Take The Case" - Jay trys to sue Dante and Randal.

5) "Class Reunion" - Dante becomes the coach of Leonardo's little league team

6) "The Fair Across the Street" - well isn't really about anything.

So like I said if you like Jay and Silent Bob, Clerks, Kevin Smith, or anything related to those three things, you need to buy this DVD set. It's very cheap and shows some very entertaining episodes of what would have been a great tv show, had it been given a better chance. Maybe one day it will come back, or may Smith will just release them through DVD. Who knows. All we can do is hope.

Summary: Lower than my expectations
Review: I had heard all around great things about this DVD. I heard it was funny, it had great special features, and that it was almost as good as the movie it was based off of.

I was displeased.

Me being a Kevin Smith fan, I have each of his movies on DVD--yes, even Vulgar--but I can never find Mallrats. But anyways... I ordered this DVD and it arrived today.

I was very pleased that I got it, but I am displeased with what it offers.

What I found on the DVDs were all six episodes of Clerks: The Animated Series.

I hear it was cancelled from ABC after only two episodes. No wonder it was cancelled.

It just wasn't humorous enough in my book to satisfy me plenty. But it did have its moments:

-The Littel League Episode: Randal rejects the sex opportunity with the hot girl to play Pharoah, and Jay and Silent Bob playing Little League baseball.

-The Last Episode: The whole thing was pretty funny.

Overall though... very disppointed. I'm only giving it three stars because of the respect I have for Kevin Smnith.

Summary: Animated genius: Kevin Smith enters the world of television.
Review: Recently, I began re-watching my Kevin Smith collection. I've been a fan for some time, but sadly, I only owned "Dogma", "Chasing Amy" and "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". So I went on a hunt for the films missing from my collection. I found "Clerks - The Animated Series Uncensored" used at an electronics store. I knew I was in for something good as soon as I payed for it. There were two guys at the counter. One of them says hi and then took the DVD and looked it. Suddenly his eyes widened. "Oh, man! We had CLERKS?" he said to his companion. "Yep," the other man replied. "When did this come in?" he asked, running it through the scanner. "I dunno." With a final shake of his head, the man placed the DVD in a bag and said, "I wish I'd known we had this. I would've picked it up!" I smiled and walked out of the store. Oh, yeah. I couldn't wait to watch these babies.

In late May 2000, "Clerks: The Animated Series" made its debut on ABC-TV. The show continues the wacky adventures of Quick Stop clerks Dante and Randal and the two stoners who hang out outside the store: Jay and Silent Bob. All the characters in the show were voiced by the actors in the films; many characters from the View Askewniverse have quick, but fan-satisfying appearances, such as Steve-Dave or Fanboy.

In the first episode, Dante and Randal try to prevent the destruction of their Quick Stop when a futuristic "Quicker Stop" is invented by billionaire Leonardo Leonardo (voiced by Alec Baldwin). In the second episode, Dante and Randal remember their previous adventures while locked in a freezer. In the third episode, Leonardo Leonardo succumbs to a deadly virus, and the Quick Stop is investigated by an FBI agent (voiced by James Woods). For the fourth episode, the clerks find themselves being sued by Jay in a court led by the honorable Judge Reinhold (voiced by Judge Reinhold). For the fifth episode, Dante becomes the coach of Leonardo Leonardo's pathetic Little League team; and, for the final episode - there really isn't a plot.

"Clerks" the series is 100% film-nerd material. Film nerds (I know - I am one) will enjoy the show much more than the casual movie watcher. There are multiple references to films and TV shows throughout the series.

In the end, I really don't know what to say about "Clerks" other than seeing is believing. It completely surpassed my expectations, and is one of - if not the funniest - cartoon I've ever seen. This is the sort of thing slackers sit around and watch all day long. But if you have to be a slacker to watch this series, count me in. I'm proud to have this DVD in my collection.
