Summary: Hysteria
Review: Clerks Animated Series Uncensored was the best show on TV that nobody was watching. It was the type of show that made you laugh at yourself for laughing. Classic, in every sense of the word. The only problems I've had was running the dvd on my mitsubishi player. I had to watch it on my friend's player. Has anyone else had a similiar problem?

Summary: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Again
Review: This DVD is an absolute must have for any die hard Kevin Smith fan. It continues the story that Clerks left off with. The story follows Dante and Randall, two devoted clerks at the local quick stop. They deal with irate customers, annoying movie stars, and Charles Barkley. I couldn't stop laughing during this thing. I know that a lot of people might be turned off by it since it is in a cartoon format, but you have to see this thing. Only two or three episodes ever aired on television and if you liked those then the other three that are uncensored you will enjoy even more. I just have to say buy this dvd and see what you think, you never know, you might not be able to help laughing.

Summary: 3 stars for the dvd, 5 stars for the content...
Review: Hey, email me if you have the same problems that I do. I loved this dvd. I too missed the two episodes when they first aired on abc. I have one major problem with the package though. Each disc skips, loops and glitches A LOT in my player. I have not been able to try it in any other players, but it is very annoying, especially since it is stretched out over two discs and both discs do it. I have actually been through 2 copies so far (taking back the second today), and hopefully will find one that doesn't have this problem.

The content is great however, and I recommend this to anyone who can play it without the glitches.

Summary: What's uncensored about it?
Review: I first heard about this animated adventure on viewaskew.com. I must say that I never saw the original broadcast of the first 2 episodes, but when I heard a complete collection was going to be released (I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan), I just had to get it. My expectations must have been set too high because it was just plain awful. Laughs were far and few between. The best parts of the whole DVD were the Character Development and The Clerks Style Featurettes, but hardly worth the money paid. The 15 second introductions before each each episode were the only "uncensored" portions of the video. I had expected a little more off-the-wall, cutting-edge humor instead of 6th grade antics. Save your money and buy something worthy of being in your collection.

Summary: Pretty hard watch even for Smith fans
Review: Kevin Smith's latest addition to the Clerks brand is worth viewing on technical terms: the animation is slick..and well, the animation is slick. The problem is not character development...indeed these character suffer from overdevelopment. You have a feeling Leonardo, NJ and all its inhabitants is a well-thought plan in Smith's head that never quite reaches the final product. Even die-hard Smith fans have to be tired of the Star Wars references, the Caitlin Bree gags, and general coldness of his two main characters. Sure, back when the movie first came out quick pop-culture references were fresh material but its so common in the media now that the series wraps itself up in a such Hollywood formulas that it mocks. It even has an evil tycoon character that feels so out of place. If it were done well, it might have survived but it never rises above self-referential dialogue and the fixation on celebrities and movie parodies hinders any following outside of those who already admire Smith's work.

Summary: Kevin Smith fan
Review: I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan! I own Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma but I refuse to buy this. Not at all worth the money.

I think the concept was good but because it was made for TV, I think they were limited on the material they could present and the language they could use. There were a few good jokes in each episode but you had to suffer through so much just to find them.

Big disappointment!

Summary: unapprciated in its time
Review: Around 2 years ago when South Park was at its peak, ABC attempted to buy the show from Comedy Central. ABC wanted something to combat the Simpsons. They wanted an edgey "hip" animated show. Obviously that deal fell through (can you imagine SP on ABC??) So ABC bought the rights to Clerks. It already had a cult following, so they gave it a "chance". I remember being interested in this show. They delayed it for a good while, then ran one commercial for it during the Super Bowl. "coming in May" That was the extent of the marketing campagin for Clerks. I never saw another promo, didnt know what day it aired, let alone the timeslot. So I missed it. All two episodes. I dont know why ABC expected stellar ratings right off the bat for this show, but they did. The lack of promotion, running episodes out of order, and far too great expectations killed it. (This is from the same network that gave birth to and supported the horrendous "The Critic" for over a year and a half) Obviously this show is tame compared to Clerks (movie) but it is still very entertaining. Once you get past the terrible promo, its a great ride. Highlights include the tongue-in-cheek "flashback episode" the AWESOME lawsuit episode, and the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom parody. The last episode (ToD parody) really showed promise. It contained more witty banter than the other episodes, along with the same outrageous situations from the others. Smith really reached for the core View Askew audience on this one. This show had the potential to be the torch-bearer for the ever fading Simpsons, (Futurama is entertaining in a lowbrow sense) it REALLY did. Perhaps HBO will pick it up (or even FOX. they treat animated programming right, plus there is nothing in Clerks that isnt 50 times worse than Family Guy) There is talk of an animated feature film, lets hope it happens. When was the last time you truely laughed uncontrollably during primetime? If your answer is Friends, this isnt for you. For those who rarely watch TV anymore because they are done with tired, played out programming, then buy this immediately. 20 dollars could not be spent better.

Summary: The Best Kevin Smith Film is a Better Than Average Cartoon.
Review: For a fan of Smith's various "Jersey" films, this DVD set is a great addition. Not only do you get Smith regulars such as Jay, Bob, Walt, and Steve Dave, you'll also get more from Smith's greatest creations: Dante and Randal.

To say that the animated series is just like a "cartoon version" of the films, though, would be a lie. One of the problems with "Clerks: The Animated Series" is that it was trying very hard to be like other animated comedy shows (i.e.: The Simpsons, South Park), losing the charm of the original film in the process. Because of this fact, you get some odd moments which seem rather un-"Clerks" like. On the whole, though, the Clerk's cartoon was a really funny show that really showed the chemistry between Brian O'Halloran and the absolutely riotous Jeff Anderson. Interestingly enough, the "toned down" humor of the animated series actually added to the charm of some of the characters. The non-potty mouthed Dante came across more as the always unlucky protagonist he was always meant to be.

As for this DVD collection, you really do get a lot for your money. Six episodes are included: uncut and in the proper order. There are a number of interesting featurettes with an interesting, behind the scenes, look at the art of the film. An especially interesting feature of this DVD is the "alternate angle" which allows you to watch the animatics of the individual episodes, giving viewers a rare look at how a cartoon evolves from script to finalized product. There is also the normal commentary track (complete with the normally clueless Jay; and Jeff Anderson in his first "Jersey" commentary apperance)), entertaining, though less so than the typical Smith commentary. The original commercials for the show are also included as an added bonus. By and large, plenty of interesting extras.

There are also some disappointing aspects to this DVD presentation. The introductions by Jay and Silent Bob, while mildly humorous, look as if they were shot on a home video camera (though the cameo by Anderson was a nice touch). In the end, it seems like more could have been added to the presentation of the DVD. For one thing, the commentary is somewhat lack luster. Smith actually noted on the commentary that the "session" was being filmed. In the "Mallrats:SE" DVD, an alternate angle option was included which allowed you to actually watch Smith and crew as they critiqued the film. This (according to Smith and Scott Mosier's commentary) was supposed to be a feature of this DVD, as well, but it is sadly missing. An additional commentary track, actually pertaining to the individual episodes, would have been nice as well. I would also have liked to see a featurette showcasing all of O'Halloran and Anderson's cameos in Smith's films (including some sort of preview from "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back") and "introduction" footage of a more professional quality.

"Clerks" was a good show and it makes a great DVD. If for nothing else, buy this DVD so you can see more of Dante and Randal's exploits. Watching them here will make you truly excited for their return this summer. And, let's not forget the always entertaining Jay and Silent Bob, who make a number of classic appearances throughout the series' six episode run. Viva La Clerks!

Summary: The Simpsons are no longer the best cartoon around
Review: Being a fairly avid Kevin Smith fan (yeah, I even liked Mallrats), I was chomping at the bit waiting for this DVD set to be released, and it did not disappoint. Clerks: the Animated Series is definitely a cartoon series for the 90's and now the 2000's and I hope we see more. From the never ending stream of celebrity cameos (between Charles Barkley and James Woods, I can't decide which I liked more) to the classic Jay and Silent Bob moments (that poor monkey) this DVD set gives the Jersey Trilogy fans everything they love and more. I think all the television stations that passed on Clerks TAS, and "the network" that cancelled it will be sorry when this gold mine hits, and it will. A must buy if ever there was one. Schnoogins.

Summary: I'm a Kevin Smith fan but
Review: Ok, when Smith asserted that the Mousehouse had unduly used their influence again (first time being on Dogma) I was willing to believe him. Only 2 shows were shown, out of order and boom, it was gone.

Trust me when I say they deserved to go. While I like his movies and comics, the cartoons just weren't, well, there. Very referential, repetitive and with only a good joke or two per episode (which is generally about a joke or two more than most tv shows) I just didn't like it.
