Summary: If you can stand the poor video quality, this is a must buy.
Review: I was reluctant to buy this disc because of its high price/few episodes ratio. (Come on, "All in the Family" gets 26 episodes for $30, that's under $1 per episode and that's how it should be for all TV!) However, as a proceed of the purchase (how much they won't tell us, hmmmm...) goes to a charity John Ritter adored, I broke down tonight and bought it.

After the ubiquitous FBI screen disappears, I was greeted with a menu. Ignore the naysayers, there is nothing wrong with how this menu works and I've used far, far worse in my 300 movie collection. I rather like the menu... And the fact they have a menu option telling us of the Spring 2004 release for season 2 made my day, it's nice to see they'll put out this series for the fans.

Now for the transfer. Audio quality is superb, well restored. Video quality is a different story. Upon freeze-framing, it's very clear that, despite doing a good job at restoring the master tapes, they did a rather poor transfering the video to DVD. (You HDTV fans out there may not like watching this on your sets... and by 1996, the FCC is pulling the plug on current broadcast standards...) I can think of 2 reasons why the video looks as poor as it does, but it suffices to say that the end result is a video image that looks needlessly grainy; broadcast video technology of the time never ever looked this bad. But while not as bad as VHS consumer quality videotape, it is well below acceptable DVD quality. (for another example of what not to do in terms of transfrring video quality onto DVD, check out the dithering used in "The Best of the Chris Rock Show" - yuck!) But given the price of this disc and that "All in the Family" costs less per episode and yet looks far better (despite NOT having had its master tapes restored), I'm knocking 2 points off. DVD video should not ever look this grainy in a freeze-frame. (it is bearable when things in motion, but be prepared for a shock if you're a "quality freak".)

6 episodes. I was pondering the same issue, why not have a season 1 + 2 box set? But then we'd have to wait until spring, and I hate waiting, though I would have if the video looked better. Besides, these episodes are HILARIOUS. The gags, the double entendres, the Ropers... it's all there. And when you are laughing so much you start to cry and get a stomachache, you know you're watching a winner of a show that's well written and well cast. No wonder "Three's Company" became a success so quickly. As other reviewers here and other websites post plot synopses and reviews, I won't here. (well, "No Dogs, No Children" was probably my favorite of the bunch, especially the scene where Chrissy and Jack are in the kitchen feeding the puppy...)

And the real downfall is, John Ritter died an untimely death. :-( He will be missed. He was a great actor and sounded like a great guy too. Very rare in the industry...

Summary: Great DVD, few episodes though
Review: I loved this show. The show has taken on a "larger than life" persona over the years, which I think is misplaced. You'd think it was "I Love Lucy," "All in the Family," or "Mary Tyler Moore" with all the hype this show has received over the years. It isn't any of those things. It's simply a cute, light comedy show that always makes you laugh and is hilariously silly all the time. It also works to show off the bodies of Suzanne Somers, and even John Ritter. This first season really reminds you what the show really was, simple cute episodes with a lot of laughs, that doesn't take itself seriously as so many people today take this show as. The cast seems so young here, but you get a feel for the show and see the real comic genius of all involved, particularly Ritter. Though the price reflects this, this is only six-epidode DVD. If you've seen other first season DVD's for other shows, be aware that this is not a 20+ episode disc. It is six episodes that you will be able to watch within 2-3 hours as this show was a mid-season replacement so the first season was in fact only 6 episodes. There are no extras, apart from a brief written summary of each show and a brief written tribute to Ritter. I have no idea about the techical aspects of the transfer, but sound, image, and color seem good to me.

Summary: A OK ~ Three's Company Season 1
Review: I'm glad Three's Company was put on DVD. It was a good show back in its days and it is still a good show. I can't wait to buy the Second Season when it comes out in the spring of 2004. If you have never seen any of the shows, I suggest you start watching and own this DVD. You won't stop laughing.

Summary: Excellent, albeit short, DVD presentation.
Review: This is one of those "it's about time" DVD releases. The first season of "Three's Company" was a short one, given only six episodes. But it was wonderful to see them in their original colorful, vibrant presentations. The show stands the test of time and this is a must-own DVD for any classic TV fan.

The only fault, naturally, is the lack of features and the small number of episodes. It might have worked better if they had combined this with season two and released a loaded collection next year. As it stands, season two will be released next year and I fully expect a five-star collection.

Summary: Best Show Ever!!
Review: I loved Three's Company since I was a child, John Ritter is hilarious. I was upset when the Ropers left the show at the end of the third season, it was a lost! Norman Fell is so funny...
I was devistated when I heard about John Ritter's death, he won't be forgotten...
We will miss you, John. Can't wait for the second season. Buy it and you won't regret it. It makes you laugh so much...

Summary: The Greatest Show by the Greatest Man!
Review: Yes, Three's Company is the greatest show because of John Ritter's brilliance. All the seasons were great, but 6, 7, and 8 were easily the best because Chrissy was gone, and completely forgotten and the show could now focus on the power of Jack Tripper. Sure, Chrissy was a fine credit to the core of the show, but as she became dumber, she became more of a hindrance than a support to Jack. Terri, on the other hand, became the perfect complement to Jack, not to mention the fact that she was also much hotter than Chrissy. And, of course, Janet had always achieved a wonderful dynamic with Jack throughout all the seasons. The last 3 seasons not only showcased John Ritter's unbelievable physicality in greater amounts, but the actual content of the show focused on Jack's life. In other words, the whole premise of a guy living with 2 girls was virtually worn out and extinct. As a result the content became broader and the show became much funnier. But all of the credit for this improvement is bestowed to John Ritter. This indeed was John Ritter's show, and the show would not have had anywhere near the amount of appeal with some other actor. The first season unfortunately does not showcase John Ritter, but revolves around the 3 roommates. Nevertheless, just his presence is electrifying and his magnificence envelops you. Celebrate the Greatest Show by the Greatest Man through this DVD!

Review: I love this show!!! Ritter was a comedic genius as far as I am concerned. Everyone of the episodes on this disc is a real hoot for anyone that grew up watching reruns of the show. Give it a whirl and you won't be sorry. R.I.P John Ritter...We'll miss you.

Summary: Show=Amazing , DVD=RUSHED
Review: One of my favorite shows ever, the DVD itself was rushed to capitalize on John Ritter's death. This is what I hate about movie studios, it's all about the money and not about quality. Thumbs down to the transfer, thumbs down to the menus, thumbs down to the speed of menu access.

Remember, I'm not rating the show because it would get 10 stars. The transfer is garbage.

John you are the man. Sorry about this quality!

Summary: Funniest Show On TV-Three's Company
Review: I do not presently own this DVD but plan on buying it in the future. I have seen all the episodes on TV. John Ritter was the star of this show and he is the one I tuned in to see, other than the late Norman Fell! I never get tired of seeing John Ritter in action on this show! I still even stay up late at night to see the show on cable. I am sure no one will be disappointed in buying this great DVD! RIP John Ritter, I miss you and think of you each day!
