Rating: Summary: Dude, I started crackin' up! Review: This DVD is so funny. Me and my friend Paul were watching this and we started busting up. Remember that one part where Ben Stiller was acting like U2? I started cracking up! I looked at the cheesy early 90's hair on the cover and thought it might be lame, but I was cracking up throughout the whole thing. It's that funny. Paul would look over at me and we'd be all trying to not laugh, but we couldn't help but bust up. That was yesterday afternoon and I'm still cracking up. THAT'S how funny this is.
Rating: Summary: Arguably the Best Comedy Variety Show of All Time Review: When you can remember quotes, skits, and situations from a show that lasted less than four months over a decade ago, you know it did something right. The genius of Ben Stiller's comedy was never more alive than it was in this criminally short-lived series. The reason the show was so funny is no surprise - all of the performers were gifted comedy writers. It's been my opinion that those who come from writing backgrounds will be the most consistently funny performers - look at Conan O' Brien's ease and natural ability to make things funny compared to Letterman (tired) and Leno (pandering). "The Ben Stiller Show" features Stiller, Garafolo, Andy Dick, and Bob Odenkirk all before they would become more famous with other projects. Basically, if you're a fan of any of them, this is a must. The recurring character of "Skank" (a quasi-"All in the Family" spoof with the character of Archie basically played by a dirty sock puppet) is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Stiller's goof on motivational speaker Tony Robbins is also hilarious ("When I lost my first girlfriend, I was devestated. I gained 75lbs in two days and shot up from 6'1" to 7'2". I was a freak. Even my parents wouldn't talk to me.") and worth the price of this DVD. Plus, any show that had cameos from Todd Bridges, Gary Coleman, Norman Fell, James Doohan, Danny Bonaduce, and Adam West definitely was on the right track.Pick this up!!!
Rating: Summary: Long Overdue Review: Finally, the short-lived, Emmy winning series "The Ben Stiller Show" is coming to DVD! I've waited 11 years for this one... Nearly every sketch in every episode is a gem from "Cape Munster" to "Skank" to "Melrose Heights, 90210" to the ongoing commercial parodies using sex appeal to sell garden tools to "Zoo TV Late At Night" (witness Ben Stiller as Bono interviewing Sherman Helmsley of "The Jeffersons). Janeane Garofalo and Andy Dick have never been funnier, and you can witness the early years of the talents behind "Mr. Show" and "Zoolander." This DVD is worth the price of admission every time.
Rating: Summary: Been waiting for publication of this show for TEN years Review: Finally! Simply the finest comedic television of the last decade. My friends and I have worn out our VHS dubs of dubs of dubs. We even wrote to the studios at one time begging for official release. Stiller is a master of the comedy sketch-- especially parodies of popular culture. Smarter and more daring than his films-- perhaps part of why the show was cancelled. The best supporting cast/co-writers ever: Andy Dick, Janine Garofolo, Bob Odenkirk.
Rating: Summary: FEEL THIS DVD! Review: I think that you have not lived if you have not seen ben stiller do anthony robbins. watch my teeth, see how they rule you. classic sheet. also, it is important to see ben so U2. Also I think there was a parody of "the heights meets beverly hills 90210" also there was an "ask manson" segment. bob odenkirk doing really funny sketches. "advantage agassi" with ben doing armand assante. now if they would only release the GET SMARTs, police squad and some of the new ren and stimpys i think i would be just about set...I dont remember andy dick doing anything but he had the funniest part in the intro to the show....
Rating: Summary: I have been waiting 11 years Review: We used to gather around the TV and wait for this how to come on. The skits are brilliant, from PJ Peetertoots a restraunt hell bent on the upsell of appetizers to a spoof on A few good men. Ben stiller does hands down the best Tom Cruise impression ever. A spoof of 90210 , Bensonhurst 11201 or something like that. I cant wait to see this DVD.
Rating: Summary: Patience is a virtue... Review: I moved to the US in February 1992 from Australia and I remember the show briefly being on FOX. Back then, I didn't know any of the players, including Stiller, but the show was hilarious. Remember, at the time (in my opinion) Saturday Night Live [stunk]. This show reminded me of the Australian comedy sketch shows like Comedy Company and Fast Forward. I loved it! Then it wasn't picked up for a second season and receded into cult status. For years on, I always remembered many of the sketches but couldn't even remember the name of the show. But then in the late 90s, the FX channel aired all 13 episodes and I recorded them on VHS. I watched them over and over again, but then the tape was lost...forever. Now, I'm about to own the show on DVD and I can't wait to share it with friends who've never seen it. Do yourself a favor and check them out. I particularly love the COPS and Die Hard spoofs.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST SKETCH COMEDY SHOW....EVER!!! Review: The Ben Stiller Show was, in my opinion, the best sketch comedy show....EVER. A fantastic cast, Stiller, Garafalo, Odenkirk, and Dick. Brilliant writers. incredibly funny sketches and short films. Some of the best were "Of Buildings And Women"(a take off of French art films), "Manson"(a parody of "Lassie" starring Charles Manson), "The Grungees"(a modern day version of "The Monkees" featuring a grunge band, with guest appearance by Micky Dolenz),"Skank"(a sitcom about a loud-mouthed, racist sock-puppet and his loving family...with guest spots by Todd Bridges and the late(great)Norman Fell),"Jake Steel, Marionette Cop"(about...well, just what the title says),and so much more! I would highly recommend this collection for any fan of sketch comedy, film buffs or people who grew up in front of the television in the 60s and 70s (as I did).
Rating: Summary: Hysterical! Review: How I have waited for this DVD (and will continue to wait... 2010 release date? that can't be right...)! This is a very on-the-edge show which ran briefly in the early 90s, but developed a cult status. I hope they'll put the few episodes which aired on MTV on this disc, but I'm not holding my breath. The MTV version was my first exposure to Ben Stiller, and though he has done some standard fare movies, I love him for the truly hysterical guy he is. This cast is brilliant, the writing is perfect. You can't go wrong with this disc!
Rating: Summary: A must-have for U2 fans Review: I watched the Ben Stiller show when it was originally aired. It was a farily good show - some lame skits, but some very good ones. Of note would be the parodies of U2. Ben Stiller does a very good Bono (and Andy Dick is a good Adam Clayton). One episode featured U2 performing at a Bar Mitzvah (a parody, kinda, of Bullet the Blue Sky) and a commercial for Lucky Charms (parody of the New York "One" video). I believe there was another episode with one U2 skit, but I don't recall what it was about (all the re-runs I've seen since are the episode with the two skits).
