Rating: Summary: Not as Good as First Season Review: It seems to me the writing in the 2nd season is a formulaic, "retro-fit" imitation of the first season. The scripts have gone from *creative* to *re-creative*, and much of the subtlety that made the first season so clever is gone. For instance, a brilliant situation wherein Steve makes an emotional defense of men's desire to see "naked bottoms" to five bewildered dinner guests & Susan is now an annoying diatribe wherein Steve complains of Susan's incessant "where are you going?" 's. Fleeting glances into the odd mind of a buzzed but innocent Jeff have become episode-long excursions into the perspective of a drunk & exhausted Jeff (whose penchant for bar peanuts & beer burps makes his every scene seem as if he's on the verge of tossing his cookies). The natural, effortless beauty of playful Susan is now covered in too much Maybelline. [...] A lot better than the pathetic American rip-off, yes, but for me it's no match for the original, witty first season.
Rating: Summary: Magnificent Case Study Review: Almost everyone here praises the British "Coupling" and knocks the NBC version. And rightly so. But for heaven's sake, please watch the NBC version. Watch it back to back with the British episodes on this and the previous disc. Watch them simultaneously with a split-screen or PIP feature. It's fascinating. If you've ever wondered what great actors bring to a script (and what mediocre actors can suck out of one), this is the ideal case study. The original "Coupling" (represented here) is so vastly superior to its American cousin, it's staggering.
This is a rare opportunity to truly appreciate the actor's craft. And Jack Davenport, Richard Coyle, Sarah Alexander, Gina Bellman et al deserve wild praise for superior work. Compare, contrast and see if you don't agree.
Rating: Summary: A Comedy Classic! Review: Coupling is comic genius. Despite the risque subject matter of practically every episode, the excellent script and brilliant acting and especially timing of the cast is superb. Ther isn't too much TV comedy that can withstand numerous viewings, but even after remembering most of the lines of every episode of Coupling, it still just cracks me up. Jack Davenport's (Pirates of the Caribbean and The Talented Mr Ripley) comic timing is incredible as Steve and Richard Coyle (Jeff) is..., well his character defies categorization, but Jeff is a unique and hilarious character because of Richard's remarkable abilities. I watched the NBC pilot this week, and just cringed. It is the same story as the original BBC episode, with all of the humor sucked out, and with far, far less talented actors. The actor portraying Jeff is so badly cast, he destroys every line he is left with in the butchered script. Consider taking some classic Monty Python sketches, editing them for an "American Audience" and having the lines delivered by a completely different set of actors who didn't understand the humor in the first place and you have the NBC version of Coupling. Buy the Season 1 DVD to get acquainted with the characters and you will be hooked. I Cannot wait to get my 2nd season DVD. The 3rd season is airing intermittently on BBC America, and a 4th is still at the script stage. I can't wait.
Rating: Summary: One of the best sitcoms around. Review: Coupling is one of my favorite sitcoms. Don't be put-off by the dopey American imitation. This is the real-deal. YES it is similar to Friends, but with a healthy does of Seinfeld added in. The second season is the best currently available on DVD. It has the classic episode where Jeff unfortunately tells a woman he has an artificial leg. It also features appearances by Captain Subtext and The Melty Man. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A Great Britcom Review: Coupling Series One was everything you could want in a comedy show. It was funny, explicit, and you actually cared about the charcters. Coupling:Series 2 is no exception. It's just as funny, just as explicit and the added bonus of more episodes. With over nine episodes, you definately get your money's worth on this DVD. The episodes are all funny and all have a great quirk. Last season ended with Susan walking out on Jack. At the beginning of this series(British for season) Susan and Jack are back together and Jeff has a bit of a crush on a woman he has seen on the bus. The only problem is he has only seen her leg. When he finally does meet her, he make sthe mistake of telling her he only has one leg. Of course this leads to a halarious outcome and truly shows what Coupling is capable of. The rest of the episodes are funny and involve similar situations which truly make everyday relationships funny. I HIGHLY recommend Coupling Season in addition to Series one because it's funny and original.
Rating: Summary: A classic ! Best written comedy ever... Review: Don't confuse BBC's series with NBC's colorless comedy. The Brits know how to let it "all hang out." (NBC shouldn't have bothered since they are too uptight there) I've taped this series from PBS and left my friends in stitches when they have borrowed the tapes. Besides the superior quality of the DVD version, we get interviews with the "real Steve" (the show's creator and writer). And just wait until they release Series 3 here (It was released in the UK in September). Episodes to look forward to are "Unconditional Sex", "The Girl with One Heart", "Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps." You will NEVER see comedy this fresh on OUR networks. Buy this series -- ALL of it. You will laugh your posterior off !
Rating: Summary: Coupling no Friends, thankfully Review: Even though I have not viewed this DVD, I have been able to watch most of the episodes for series 2 on my local Public Television. This is the wittiest and most entertaining look at relationships in the 20-30 year old world I have ever seen. The second Series only improves upon the first. There is no comparison to Friends. The similarities end at the number and gender of the cast members. I am sure the DVD will be great, the special features can only add to the hilarious episodes. Don't watch the NBC "Coupling". They cannot capture the British humour and cast chemistry of the original.
Rating: Summary: A modern comedy classic. Review: Having watched and enjoyed Seasons One through Three of "Coupling," Season Two is my overall favorite. Steven Moffat's writing is strongest here, and some of the cast's finest performances came through during this season. Some of my favorite episodes include "My Dinner in Hell," "Her Best Friend's Bottom," "The Melty Man Cometh," "Jane & the Truth Snake" & "Naked." Richard Coyle is delightfully weird as Jeff, and Lou Gish is an absolute joy to watch as Julia, Jeff's new girlfriend. "The End of the Line" ends the season with a cliffhanger to be picked up at the beginning of Season Three. "Coupling" Season Two delivers 4 and a half hours of hilarious classic comedy, and is a definite must-own.

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I admit that I am a huge fan of this series (and thus not very impartial) but I just had to voice my opinion that Coupling is the brightest, most hilarious comedy to hit the airwaves in any country for many years. After the greatness of Season 1, I was worried that Steven Moffat would not be able to maintain the sheer brilliance of his characters and the hilarious situations they encounter. In Season 2 I found the writing and acting to be even better! "Jeff Murdock" remains the jewel in a crown of great characters. I have to recommend this DVD as equal to or greater than season one on all levels, which is saying alot. It is also great that Season 2 contains nine episodes, as compared to six episodes in Season 1. Buy this DVD... you won't regret it!
