Summary: is this really necessary?
Review: having to watch the show for the 2 seconds required when flipping past it was bad enough, but to enshrine the 1st season onto dvd? puhlease! paul reiser got lucky with this windbag of a sitcom. the writing was NEVER funny. the only thing this drab show had going for it was helen hunt- and she is a dramatic actress HELLO! mad about you was horrible and terribly over rated. if a friend ever gives this to me as a gift, i will never speak to him/her again. i could never stand this show and the fact that its now been immortalized on dvd makes me even more annoyed.

Summary: A great start to something FABULOUS!
Review: Every married couple can find a little bit of themselves in Paul and Jamie. This show was a treasure and is sorely missed. The one-liners that this show delivers just can't be topped. Thank goodness we can now purchase these DVD's. I can't wait for season 2. And 3 and 4....
I can honestly say that out of the entire first season, there are maybe only 1 or 2 episodes I didn't really like. And since there's 22 episodes on this disk, it becomes well worth the very reasonable price. This show evolves into something really wonderful. This is the start of something BIG!
And yes - the last 2 are out of order. What happened there?

Review: I just wanna answer to "guitartjm", who ask in his review about the final episode of the first season: it's "wedding anniversary", and before that one goes "the painter". I'm totally sure because in "wedding..." Mark and Fran are no longer living together and there is a mention about Fran's affair.
I also just read about Columbia TriStar is preparing the second season of MAY, that should be realesed on February 2003. Really good news!...

Summary: The First Season
Review: I recently bought the first season of "Mad About You" on Amazon.com. A great buy - all 22 episodes on two great discs, in fantastic packaging, and what a fabulous price! I just hope they keep releasing the seasons as it would be a shame not to.

This is a great show, and as I've only ever seen the first season, I'm not aware of the discrepancies many have mentioned between it and the latter seasons.

Essentially a claustrophobic (but in a good way) sitcom featuring 2 neurotic New Yorkers in love, slowly but surely finding their way through the pitfalls of the first few months of marriage. It can be somewhat annoying at times, and over-talkey, but essenitally it is a charming little show.

The weakest episode of the first season is 'The Billionaire', featuring a loud and extremely irratating guest appearance by Jerry Lewis, this is an unfunny and basically boring episode - although guest star Steven Wright along with the regular cast do their best to make it work; unfortunately, Lewis just blows them all away with his attention-seeking performance.

'Pilot' is a great episode, a nice introduction to the series, and paralells well with the finale 'Anniversary' (Jamie and Paul - played by the excellent Helen Hunt and the very funny Paul Reiser respectively - have sex on their kitchen table again, leaving their friends in the living room).

'Swept Away', 'The Man Who Said Hello', 'Weekend Getaway', 'Sofa's Choice', 'Sunday Times' ... and more - they're all excellent.

21 fantastic episodes (and even the awful Lewis episode has one or two moments) in a great collection. More please!

Oh and by the way, best line of the first series, issued by Jamie regarding Connie and Warren: "It's like a David Lynch version of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY". Excellent, and so very true!!

Summary: Mad about "Mad About You" on DVD
Review: If you loved the show Mad About You, you will love having it on DVD. Every episode of the first season at your finger tips.
I recently got married and just before my Wedding I was watching repeats of the show on Lifetime and even knowing I loved the show originally, watching the show as a person about to be married gave me a whole new outlook on every episode.

Now as I go through the first year of marriage, I can laugh along with Paul & Jaime, as they show us how it's done !

Summary: Mad about the Buchman's
Review: This is a great disc! I don't agree with other reviews that say this is not the Mad About You of later years. There are some different characters. But this is still Paul and Jamie learning what it means to share your life with another. And it seems to me that this disc, and the ones to follow, could be used to instruct newly married people how to do a relationship the right way. And long married people where they may be going wrong.
And best of all, it's very funny, and entertaining.
To my way of thinking, this is one of the best shows ever aired on television.

Summary: Excellent show but unacceptable picture quality
Review: I am big fan of Mad about You and of Helen Hunt in particular. I was eagerly awaiting the DVD coming out. But what a disappointment. ... I hope Sony will rethink their release strategy for this show and give it a better treatment!

Summary: shoddy treatment of a classic series
Review: I was thrilled to see this wonderful series finally being released on DVD and even more ecstatic at the very low price it's being sold at. What a disappointment once I popped the first disc into my DVD player! First of all, there are no frills on this disc, which I kind of expected considering how inexpensive it is. But they've also sacrificed image quality in order to cram 22 episodes on 2 discs. The bit rate is quite low (around 3 1/2 to 4) resulting in a really fuzzy picture. I mean, you could get a better picture recording it off of television on your VHS!

I just hope that Sony doesn't release the remainder of the seasons in this disgraceful low bit rate format.

One more note. I've noticed that this DVD has received a high rating from Amazon users, but after reading the reviews I realized that most of them had not yet actually purchased the discs and were simply excited (as I was) that it this wonderful series was finally being released.

Summary: Excellent value
Review: Just finished watching the last of the 22 episodes. I am assuming that if you are considering buying a complete season of a TV show you know what the show is about and therefore won't comment on the show itself but on the boxset details.
The box is very slim (which I like - shelf space is a scarce resource here). It comes with only 2 DVDs (11 episodes each) and a small episode guide in a sheet of paper, that's it.
There's no additional material whatsoever (no featurettes, etc), which is fine with me anyway, since I'd rather get all the episodes at this very decent price than pay... more for an interview or whatever.
Picture quality is very good, which is news to a 10 years old TV show put in DVD. It was quite a pleasant surprise.
Audio comes in English, French, and Spanish (they didn't use the same dubbing as the broadcast in Spain, though). Subtitles come only in English, but both as standard DVD subtitles and closed captions.
