Rating: Summary: Closer to the comic book Review: I've read the reviews from the cartoon fans, but I don't think very many of them have read the comic book on which the shows were based. I absolutely loved the cartoon--there has never been anything so unbelievably hysterical on Saturday mornings (tho "Freakazoid" was a close second). However, I appreciated the live action show for it's more adult-oriented humor and dead-on casting. Although the budget was too low to do great superhero action sequences, the writing was sharp and the actors seemed to enjoy playing these exaggerated dumb (Tick), meek (Arthur), bitter (Captain Liberty) and vain/cowardly (Batmanuel) characters. We all knew the show would be short-lived since it was filmed years before it actually aired in 2001 against "Friends" (guaranteed death slot). It's a shame, but at least it's now on DVD so the laughter can continue at home. Plus, there's the added bonus of getting to see the final un-aired episode with Armin Shimerman as The Terror. Enjoy this DVD, read the comic books and then find a petition to get the animated series on DVD as well. IMO, you can never have too much Tick! Oh, and Read a book!
Rating: Summary: Contact Disney! Review: In a "real" perfect world, this TV series would have never been created and the cartoon would be released on DVD. For Tick fans interested in seeing a collection of the cartoon series released, note that Disney currently owns property rights to the series. Please contact them to make your voice heard.
Rating: Summary: In a perfect world.. Review: this show would be on and King of Queens would be cancelled. That is to quote John Scalzi. Fox never gave it a chance but it is nice to own it all on Dvd. Original series never stand a chance, especially if they are on fox. This one was one of the better ones. Patrick Warburton's aloof performance of The Tick is entertaining and the loser superhero sidekicks only add to the greatness. This review is always helpful.
Rating: Summary: Oh, *that* one... Review: I was so excited! The Tick on DVD! But... ...it's not the cartoon... ...back to downloading one-inch-square MPEG bootlegs of the original, the one, the only, cartoon Tick. (Spoon.)
Rating: Summary: NOT IN THE FACE.... NOT IN THE FACE.... Review: "Lacks focus chum".... Oh how I love the tick. It's just sad that the dolt's at FOX produced this. If this show was on say "The WB" we'd still be enjoying the crazy antics of the Tick today. This DVD is worth the money if only to here the line "IT's a guys head up a robot's A$$" That kind of comedy is priceless...
Rating: Summary: About time! Review: Thrilled to hear that a witty series that was axed in its prime finds new life on DVD! Other networks, are you listening? When do we see "Greg the Bunny" or "the Job", please?
Rating: Summary: A different creature Review: I am a fan of the comic, cartoon and live action incarnations of Ben Edlund's big blue avenger. Each was different, and each was wonderful. I miss them all, but I'm glad that this show is at last getting some respect. Patrick Warburton is perfect as the Tick. I was fearful of this live action attempt until I saw him in the role. David Burke and Liz Vassey were wonderful also. But the real gem of this short-lived series was Nestor Carbonell as Batmanuel. He was one of the most entertaining TV personalities ever created. Now if only Fox would put out the animated series, I would be as happy as I can be with both shows cancelled.
Rating: Summary: "Seinfeld" in tights Review: I watched the 1st 5 of the episodes and the pilot ep was great because both Barry Sonnenfeld (producer) was the director as well and Ben Edlund (creator) was the writer and was a new and equally funny take on the Tick's introduction to the City--after that, ex-"Seinfeld"-ians took control, hence my review title--if you have to buy this DVD set, it would only be for the 1st/pilot ep as the others are not as funny as--yes, the comic book and cartoon--I know it was supposed to be different but that is the problem: how can you have a show, even a spoof of super-heroes, without eventually showing superheroics, etc., with little to no budget! Of course, I'm going to end this with my bottom line complaint: WHY RELEASE THE LIVE-ACTION SHOW BEFORE THE CARTOON! RELEASE THE LATTER ON DVD--NOW! SPOOOOOOOON!
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: I am so glad to be seeing the live action series come out on DVD. I am planning to buy a DVD player just so I can watch it again. I've never seen the cartoon version, but i'm sure it had to be watered down for children. This is way too good to pass up. SPOON (the battle-cry of flatware)
Rating: Summary: Loved This Show to Pieces... Review: Funny, quirky, strange...this was one great show. And Liz Vassey made my heart go "pitter-patter." Be a good law-abiding citizen and order this DVD!
