Summary: A Great Show that was set up to fail...
Review: I bought this DVD and have watched all the episodes and it is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. I loved the animated series and this show carries the torch well. One thing you will get out of the commentaries is how much Barry Sonnenfeld loves this show, and really would like to make a feature film if the DVD's sell enough,One reason the show failed is Fox didn't know what to do with such a show, so they put it in the "death slot" (8:00 Thursday), opposite Friends and Survivor. As Mr. Sonnenfeld says, the networks always say they want something fresh and different but when such a show is delivered, the networks don't know what to do with it.

Summary: EVIL IS AFOOT
Review: While it's a shame that this hip TV show was cancelled way too soon, I'm glad that someone had sense enough to release it on this 2 DVD set so quickly (relatively speaking). Even though I think that the preceding animated cartoon series was slightly better, I feel that this is as close as you could possibly get with a live action adaptation. The cast, guest stars, sets, and stories were all perfect to help draw you into The City and the world of The Tick. This was one of the few times that comics made the leap to the small screen and retained all it's charm that made it a hit in the first place. This will have to tide me over until someone steps up and releases all of the animated cartoon series on DVD. I only hope that it's not Fox after seeing the abysmal job they did on releasing it on VHS. Spoon!!!

Summary: A great series, but a lousy DVD
Review: The Tick was one of those TV series, that were "too good" to survive, for very long. It's great that this single season has made it out onto DVD (take note, you corporate suits - dig out all those old, "failled" tv series, and put them on DVD. I want copies!) However, as fantastic as The Tick is, the DVD package that Sony Pictures have put together is downright abysmal, if not insulting to the customer who buys it. The problem lies two of the four "special features" listed:
1) Commentaries by Barry Sonnenfeld and Bed Edlund: These take some looking for. The commentaries only exist on certain select episodes - and there is no notation *anywhere* to tell you which ones have them. Unlike most DVDs which give you a link for switching them on and off, you have to clumsily poke around at your remote's audio-track button, each time an episode starts, in the hopes of finding one. 2) Rom Link to additional added value, with executive producer Barry Josephson and a special surprise guest: This "feature" Is MISSING. Not there. Neither disc 1, nor Disc 2 have any DVD-Rom materials on them at all. I've been through the entire contents of both discs (both folders, whee) - No HTML pages, no hyperlinks to websites. Nothing. This one's simply not there. It doesn't exist. Since the other two "features" are just the standard "episode selection" and a bunch of traillers, this DVD set is a dud, as far as bonus materials. It almost seems like this set was released by mistake, before it was actually finished. I wish there was a way to contact someone at Sony and ask them if they accidentally printed and sold copies of a semi-completed, early demo version of the set. It's bizzarre that they'd go to the trouble to release a 2-disc box, and then blow it by screwing up, and forgetting to supply the listed bonus materials. Whether by bad planning, bad design, lack of interest leading to an abandoned project, or simply through an honest mistake - it's a real let-down. So, if you're going to get it, don't get it for the special features. Get it for the episodes of this lost gem of a series. They're quite watchable. I firmly consider this live version of The Tick to be the definitive version (far superior to the old cartoon version) - and well worth taking the time to sit down in front of.

Summary: So funny they had to cancel it
Review: I can't think of one good reason why this show was cancelled ... I guess it was just too funny and clever for mainstream viewers or stuffy advertisers. I can't compare this to the Tick cartoon, as I never saw it, but this version with live actors is very smart and very funny. Whoever was in charge of casting did a 100% right-on job with their choices. Patrick Warburton (you may remember him as David Putty on Seinfeld) is PERFECT -- he delivers some of the wackiest, off-the-wall remarks in his deep, dead-pan voice. It's worth the price of the DVD just to see him deliver the eulogy at another super hero's funeral, where he talks about how death happens to everybody, not just dead people; death even happens to horses and potatoes (episode "The Funeral" on disk two). It's so sad that there are only 9 episodes, but I'm thankful they're available on DVD. "The Tick" is one of a handful of smart, funny shows that got axed way too soon (Andy Richter Controls the Universe, and The Job are two other such shows) ... at least The Tick is out on DVD, unlike Andy and The Job. I recommend The Tick to anyone who likes off-the-wall humor. Why crap like Friends and Raymond can be on the air season after season, and true gems like The Tick get cancelled after less than one season, I will never understand!

Summary: One of the funniest shows ever
Review: I loved the Tick. I loved the animated show and I loved the comics. When Fox put it on televison I was so happy. Then they crushed me by taking it off. The Tick is one of the stupidest things you will ever watch, but it's also one of the funniest things you will ever see. The Tick uses all aspects of humor. There is sarcasm, slapstick, inuendo, jokes, and the characters play it all well. Patrick Warburton was perfect. If the show had stayed on, I really think he could have won an emmy. He is that good. If you want garunteed laughs, the Tick is the show for you. Enjoy it and be prepared to laugh.

Review: No superhero, no matter how mighty, how powerful, or how intelligent, can compare to The Tick. The Tick stands alone atop the putrid hill of evil delivering a double-barreled dose of justice into the fowl soil that reeks with bad-doing. Why this show was cancelled is beyond me, much like 'The Greatest American Hero', The Tick lives on in the thoughts and hearts of many a down trodden citizen. Bringing an animated superhero to life is no easy task, but Patrick Warburton had The Tick down cold. The antennae were a perfect match right along with the cartoon. I would have preferred a full faced mask with a giant rubber chin, but the rest of the costume was cool. Arthur (Burke) was also a good match, the moth costume was great. My only question was the other characters. Why were Deflator Mouse and American Maid changed to Bat Manuel and Lady Liberty? Maybe it was a copyright issue or something. Both played their parts well, but Deflator Mouse was a little more arrogant and bumbling in the cartoon (this character could have been played perfectly by Adam West). And American Maid was a tougher character that would kick your butt as easy as looking at you. And what happened to Sewer Urchin? I can only hope that maybe he was planned for the second season, but alas we'll never know. The episodes on this DVD are great. Not for your straight laced stick in the mud viewers, but for folks who love entertainment like The Three Stooges. See The Tick get his Superhero license (I.P. Daily) and watch as they fight the greatest (and oldest) super villain The Terror! Of course The Tick wouldn't be The Tick without his rambling idiocy that makes no sense unless you are on your tenth beer. Whoever wrote the lines for him did a great job, and Patrick performed them perfectly. Hail The Tick. FOX really screwed up by canceling this show. Much like 'The Family Guy', The Tick can enjoy a cult following for years to come.

Review: It was obvious from the beginning that the series, as wonderful as it was, was just too odd to succeed. My favorite sequence is when the enternally-innocent Tick receives a "birds and bees" lecture from Captain Liberty and Bat Manuel. His stunning lack of comprehension is captured by hearing the other characters saying "blah, blah, blah, babies..." "blah, blah, blah, paternity suit" and such. The writing's great and the acting's fantastic. I wish that the DVD had contained more special features, but I'm still happy that I have it on my video rack.

Summary: Irreverent and hilarious!
Review: I really enjoyed the live action series, more so than the animated series. Patrick Warburton is perfect as "The Tick", and the supporting roles and guest appearances are superb. You either get this and really appreciate it - or not. I just wished for more than 9 episodes. Liz Varney - wow!!!! I have got it bad for Captain Liberty. Sexy - but with an almost too real portrayal of a Superhero with "issues". I highly recommend this DVD set if you have an offbeat sense of humor and don't need a a laugh track to know when something is funny.

Review: You know how I was introduced to The Tick? I bought the first issue of the comic [first printing too] back in the late eighties. I loved it. It was twisted, dark and adullt [not abundantly so, but still]. My favorite moment in the comics was when Arthur and The Tick first met and they went to his apartment and they're standing there looking at each other with homophobic tension 'til one of them goes:"We should get some beers." The KIDS cartoon was lame. The live action revitalized the TRUE spirit of The Tick. It was DEAD ON. The funniest episode was the one with the gay superhero and his "sidekick".

Summary: He's big. He's blue. What more do you need?
Review: I first came across the Tick (in his animated form) around two in the morning during a sleepless night quite a few years ago. Instantly I fell in love with the big blue lug, along with his crime-fighting partner Arthur. Later on, I invested in quite a few Tick comic books. When the live-action show began producation, I was ecstatic. At first, I was somewhat worried about real people portraying my heroes, however when the pilot aired on FOX, all my fears turned out to be unfounded. The live action still maintains the irreverance and wit of the comic books and the cartoon series. The only way this show disapoints is in the limited number of episodes. FOX never gave it a chance. At least now the Tick can be enjoyed on DVD. All that is needed now is the cartoon series on DVD.
