Summary: But It Was All Puffy....
Review: I am glad to see this cult hit getting the recognition it deserves. The season one episodes hold up for repeated viewings - I have to say my favorites are "jerri is only skin deep" and "feather in the storm." Amy Sedaris is a genius, but the whole cast is terrific! Witty, twisted humor that you would never ever see on network TV.

Review: Ever since Comedy Central cancelled Strangers With Candy, I've been hoping that they would release it on DVD. It is hard to express my joy when I finally saw Season 1 for sale. This is easily the best American sitcom in years. It's subversive, it's dangerous, it's dirty, but it's also hysterically funny satire. While many shows dumb down their humor to appeal to the masses, SWC has a very distinctive sense of what is funny, and is not afraid to hold to that sense. Now I'm eagerly waiting for seasons 2 and 3.

Summary: The Five Stars is not for the DVD, only for the show
Review: I give five stars for the TV show which is my number one favorite. I give zero stars for the DVD which WEA Corp, Warner Bros-whatever, Alternative Distribution Alliance and Comedy Central neglected to use close captioning for the deaf (which I am). This was used on TV, but they left it out for DVD - therefore getting my hopes up for three months and then shooting it all down in one day.Regretfully I'll be returning the DVD for a refund since it's worthless to one of Strangers With Candy's biggest fan. Thanks a lot to the insensitve, ignornat and unkind morons who did this. Well back to watching it on recorded VHS with a [bad] picture...

Summary: Truly strange, dark, AND smart humor from Second City vets
Review: Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, Mitch Rouse, & Amy Sedaris all met when they wrote and performed with Chicago's famed Second City comedy theatre in the early '90s. Their chemistry was so magical that they, along with the Annoyance Theatre's Jodi Lennon, set out to conquer the Big Apple. Once in NY, the team was tapped by Comedy Central to create the channel's first original sketch show, "Exit 57," which would go on to be nomnated for 5 Cable Ace Awards. Despite critical praise, Comedy Central pulled the plug on "57" after two fantastic seasons. A couple of years later, Colbert, Dinello, Rouse, & Sedaris created this show, a bizarre take on those "After-School Specials" aimed at teaching teens the evils of drug use, peer pressure, unprotected sex, etc. Seadris stars as Jerri Blank, an ex-junkie/whore in her forites who goes back to Flatpoint High where she learns important life lessons from, among others: Principal Blackman (Second City performer Greg Holliman), who rules the school with an iron fist; narcissistic art teacher Geoffrey Jellineck (Dinello); and stern history teacher, Chuck Noblet (Colbert), who has it out for Jerri. As one can tell from the setup, this brilliant show is chock full of very politically incorrect and edgy humor. Rouse, who does not perform on the show regularly as he was busy starring in a couple of short-lived sitcoms ("The Secret Life of Men," "Lost At Home"), appears occasionally as ineffectual Officer Savillion. I cannot praise this show enough but I must warn you that the team's humor IS an acquired taste - I know many people who simply don't get it. But, if you like twisted comedy in the mode of "The Kids in the Hall," you should love this. Sedaris has since gone on to a recurring role as Carrie Bradshaw's publisher on "Sex and the City," Colbert is a regular on "The Daily Show," and Dinello starred in the film "Plump Fiction." And, all three have just released the humorous book, "Wigfield: The Can Do Town That Just May Not." Also, if you ALREADY love "Strangers," one can find collectors on the Net who can provide you with the complete "Exit 57," as well, which, in my opinion, is even better than "Strangers." Fans of smart, twisted humor rejoice over this release and hope that Comedy Central sees fit to release the second and third seasons of "Candy" in short order!

Review: I have already picked up this DVD this morning and have not moved from my television. Going through withdrawal from newer seasons, this DVD hits the spot and laughter. If you are still reading this you are not doing your job by getting this DVD so quickly, so get a move on!

Review: This is my all time favorite TV show that I never tire watching. I am SUPER JAZZED that it's finally coming out on DVD. I've got all my friends watching it too. You'll hear classic lines like "I like the pole and the hole", "Why don't you come over to my crib and I'll make your pinky all stinky", & my favorite "Pee on me". One of the reasons why I love this show so much is that it's very un-PC. This show is hilaaaaarious!!!

Summary: Omg, what an ingenious idea
Review: I loved watching this show so much. The character of Jerri is so funny and gross at the same time. My fave episode was "behind blank eyes". It was about this cute blind guy wanting to play on the football team, while no one was supporting him except for Jerri.....well sort of,lol. Anyway, there are other episodes that are so hilarious you will be saying to yourself, "I can't believe she just did that". This is definitely a show to keep in your video library.

Summary: Wonderful cheese. Amy Sedaris is as funny as her brother
Review: Amy and David Sedaris are both hysterical, which you'll know if you've caught them on Letterman. I didn't initially like this series when i caught it during its first season. But after a couple of episodes you get the tone of it. The Jerri Blank character is hysterical, though some of the supporting cast could be better drawn (such as the teachers). Some of my favorite characters were Jerri's nasty stepmother who is about her age :) This show is often genuinely laugh out loud funny. I agree with another reviewer who indicated that Comedy Central canceled this but kept unfunny ... like Adam Carolla's Man Show. Aside from South Park they truly don't provide much of value to viewers anymore.
